I run a teamspeak server, works fine. But not as polished as discord with embedded youtube videos and such.

It's pretty stable and great if you ask me. This is the only day in months that I've ever seen Discord have a problem.
That's patently untrue. Slack released back in 2013 or earlier. Discord basically took their UI and concept and adapted it for casual use not business use
Host your own XMPP and invite all your friends
Use teamspeak/mumble for voice
Now Discord and Facebook aren't up your ass with your conversations
