Someone created a whole network of social network communities and bots aimed at teenage suicide gamification. Over 130 frags in 2016. Apparently, someone from 2ch is behind this as the whole thing is a wild mix of social engineering, trolling, creepy memes, netstalking and deep web bullshit and tumblr-style "inspirational" images.
The whole process reminded me of the Lain anime - you had to join a secret suiciders society, reach an ARG game level and then you were told when and how to die.

It's not a lone psychopath, there was obviously a group of people working on this. Like yesterday all these groups were deleted after the article came out, and now they are back again under new names and with decrypted content. Also, there was a lot of coordination work with the suiciders, like sending them reminders and alerts on suicide dates and times - picrelated.

It's a pentagram that was created around 2012 by 2ch posters for lulz - the were just testing some behavioral findings and the reactions of the user's eyes to this image (they found out adding the image to posts on social networks gace the text more credibility). Since then it was adopted by someone else.

How could I have known that those [online groups] have made them symbolic: butterflies live only for a day, while whales strand themselves on land, committing suicide,” the girl’s mother told the newspaper.
