Is /mkg/ dead? The last 4 or 5 threads have all 404ed well before the bump limit.

it's that fucker with the filco and hot opinions.

IT'S OKAY THE MEDIC IS HERE

>keypuller.com is still down

>Taobao agent still hasn't shipped keyboard

My half-a-dox came in while I was at work yesterday. Will pick it up tonight and hopefully put it together by the weekend. We'll see.

...

You think you'd learn from your previous handwiring attempts and try to make this one neater, instead of saying "fuck it" and soldering while trashed.

Yeah I know, but not being trashed is a luxury nowadays.

Do you wanna talk about it? We're here to help.

Is Topre a meme?

What IBM model this keyboard is?

Model M

Its a model M2, though that keyboards looks like its been beaten to shit

deskthority.net/wiki/IBM_Selectric_Touch_Keyboard

that keyboard looks like a 4-year-old finding all the different colors of legoes

Definitely not an Model M

It may be, or an M1... But I cant get any other external visual reference. It looks like a more modern keyboard, but, without the windows key.
>that keyboards looks like its been beaten to shit
Surely it is. It is at sale in a package with other old beaten keyboards. That is the only interesting thing though.

Hhnnnngggg

So I was looking through the FAQ and saw the section on PS/2 vs USB, and I was wondering how you find keyboards with PS/2 (inb4 you don't). Is there a cord you can use to change USB into PS/2 without getting any of the drawbacks of USB? And if I wanted something retardedly specific like a 66 key topre PS/2 keyboard do any companies make custom boards with every one of those things?

And then I should also ask, when various people say, "Topre is one of the best switches around" are there actually stupidly expensive experimental switches you can buy or are they just saying everyone has their own opinion on what is best?

>It may be, or an M1
there is no M1. Its an IBM KB-6323 which are rubber domes with a metal back plate. I have one, but its re branded.

All KB models are rubber dome? I just find an image of a similar model (KB-5311). Thanks dude.

Kek, I was joking.

I've just been ridiculously busy as of the past few months, and will continue to be for at least another few months, so I don't have that much time to work on this kind of stuff, hence I just do it when I have the rather than when I'm in a good state to do so.
Not to say I'm not enjoying myself, I'm having the time of my life.

Pic related, this piece of wood cost 65 cents.

So I got curious how I would go about transforming a nice rubber dome keyboard into a great mechanical one. First things first I would need 107 switches for a standard Hungarian layout. Do cherry mx switches really cost $1 each even in bulk? It would cost $107 only for the switches...
Are there a cheaper way to get mechanical switches? They don't have to be brand new? Should I get used keyboards?

if you absolutely need cherry switches then its better to get some used g80 for 5-10 bucks. Though why not just buy a mech keyboard since you really can't transform a rubberdome into a mech. You can pick up the superior gateron switches for as low as 31 cents tho

how old are you

21

What begs the question?

>you really can't transform a rubberdome into a mech
Why is that?
What makes it impossible to reuse the casing. Yeah I see how keycaps could be a problem though, but some 3D printing could help to make them compatible with the switches.

Anyway I would only want a mechanical, not too loud, classical looking keyboard (standard layout, no backlight bullshit, no custom keycap bullshit, nice looking fonts). It doesn't seem to exist, every mechanical keyboard I see look hipster or gamer. Also requiring Hungarian layout makes thinks harder still.

Pic very related, I want this but mechanical.

Have a look at the following:
Rosewill rk-9000
Cherry board mx 3.0
Leopold fc900
Filco majestouch 2 ( probably out of budget)
Ducky one / zero (there are non led, basic black versions)

the biggest problem would be the profile of the switches compared to the rubber dome, which would look like ass. But why not get a g80 with a Hungarian layout? That way you can get the switches and keycaps to match.

they do exist, but no one cares enough about your country to sell them there

Why not get a Hungarian g80-3000? Its expensive tho at almost $150 bucks for a brand new one. For that price I would buy a rosewill for 80 bucks, then get some PBT Hungarian keycaps for another 80. If you can find one used then that would be better. I've seen the German ones go as low as 10 bucks.

Can you use picrelated to connect terminal keyboards to a pc?

Depends. I forgot which one, but either AT or XT would work with that, while the other would need a special active adapter

dunno, i thought you were older

...

Seems fitting, I've felt like I'm an old fuck ever since I stopped being a teenager

argep.hu/product_2325612.html

Jobban jarsz ha egybol mechanikust vasarolsz es a gombokat atfested/lecsereled.

You'll be better off by buying a straight up mechanical and repainting/changing the keycaps.

not if you like bottoming out

That's painful to look at, it's like one step beyond blank caps, it's like a Gorgon cap set that forces you to look away.

absolutely not, that's an ethernet adapter

I'm looking at these on ebay right now.
Can anyone ID them?

I already searched for "Diamond computers" but nothing relevant showed up.

There's no real information on the listing except for "old keyboards, dirty"

I find the set pretty desu

You have bad taste

>Doesn't want a keyboard that fit with his tea set.

What camera?

Most likely they are rebranded Chicony keyboards
deskthority.net/wiki/Category:Chicony_keyboards

Without the sticker on the back I can't really tell

I'll shoot the seller a message if he can add a picture of the pics on the back or give me the model numbers.

Fuck off

Any legit online store for gateron smd red switches?

mechanicalkeyboards
techkeys
winkeyless
ebay
aliexpress
taobao

I have a white keyboard with non-standard bottom row so I need to leave the modifiers gray and the space bar white. The rest of my shit is all black though, monitors case mouse etc. Suggest a reasonably priced keycap set for it?

I'm only going to buy one set for the life of the board so I'd prefer a good plastic over a dirt cheap set.

I'm going to reply to this post with some pictures of noppoos that I like but would probably be $100 key sets.

This one is insanely gorgeous but I imagine it's very expensive. Any budget options that have this style of legends? They are just so nice.

Why should I spend more than $10 on a keyboard?

there are some chinese sets for like 30-40 bucks that are made for noppoo keyboards

why should you spend more than $10 on a chair
or $1 on a steak

Winkeyless and techkeys don't have smd gaterons. Also, on mechanicalkeyboards the pics are smd but it doesn't say anywhere they are smd.

The OP could use a news section.

Any interesting new keyboards in the works?

as long as the housing is clear then the smd led will shine through. if you want you can get
pcgamingrace.com/products/gateron-smd-led-compatible-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-red-green-clear-brown-blue-black-switches

I bought a razer BW TKL and non-TKL for a total of $30, what do i do with it

Because chairs cost more than $10 and steaks cost more than $1.

Keyboards cost $10. What the fuck is another $90-140 getting me exactly? Pink keys?

...

yeah this one

Oh.

Ty m8

Hmmm who? Where? When?

its funny cause a rubber dome keyboard with similar features to my mechanical one would only cost around 10-15 bucks less. I prefer the nicer feel of my blues though

Contribute then bro, there's plenty to post and talk about. Pic related, bout to lube the rattly stabs on my V60

Is the Noppoo any good? Programmable at all?

You seem to be living the life I dream of. Your desk looks so comfy and I love the things you make. I wonder how you earn money to do those things.

Kailh makes some, and they are on sale right now
massdrop.com/buy/kaihua-kailh-speed-switches

They're so good for me that this is my second one. My first one is the black model with cherry reds but it's being held hostage by a deranged uncle.
I don't think it's programmable. The features that are important to me on it:
1. Hardware switch control and capslock
2. Left ccontrol size and position. I switch it with capslock and then bind "capslock" to push to talk so all I have to do is slightly lower my palm to engage PTT. This is very important to me.
3. PBT caps are nice.
4. IMO this layout is optimal. It's small on my desk which is important to me because I need my mouse hand closer to my keyboard hand or my coordination suffers.
5. The in-line function keys are great for games like WoW with keybinds because they are easier to reach with out moving your hand

Thanks for the reply. They do seem pretty decent, for about £50 it's probably worth a go

Yes topre is a meme. Just like any rubber dome keyboard it will lose its tactility over time and use.

Spend the extra on a cherry version instead of one with the noppoo switches. My first one had cherry reds(which i cant even tolerate anymore) and it had no key chatter problems. My current one has noppoo blue switches and while they feel 10000x better than reds and aren't even loud they have bad key chatter for some reason. If this is a result of the noppoo switch or the fact that it's a blue switch I don't know but it's annoying as fuck. I currently use kcfix to deal with it.

not a mech
don't buy

Would gateron browns + 72g springs feel like zealios? Also would it be worth it to lube them if I'm already modding the springs?

top one is rubberdome
bottom one is a cherry g81, might have good cherry mx compatible keycaps but the switches are shit

Thanks. How do you know that?

Canon 40D

I wish gookmoot didn't force-strip metadata.

I did not say this btw

no since zealios are wobbly

Looks like they might be preferable to zealios then, who woulda thunk

Pic related, the tactile bumps are noticeably different IRL. Heavy Gat Browns might be quite nice though, go for it

I'm getting some Gateron in the $0.20/ea group buy so if I got one I'd probably swap them into it

>tfw i got a boner

I should stop watching porn for a while

I just got my poker 3 and I would like to know how i can take spacebar right side led off

What's the rundown on these? Thinking the clickies will probably be some good typers, almost like a laptop keyboard with feedback.

massdrop.com/buy/kaihua-kailh-speed-switches

god tier boards

what mat is that?

industrial ibm ssk is my keyboard grail

It was mine too for a while, trying to find an IBM Model F Kishsaver at the moment but they're practically impossible to find now.

what are the part numbers on the IBM's

Here you go
Nice square label btw

thanks man it was super hard to grab but was worth the wait
its in insane condition for its age and works like a charm
the click seems different from regular Model M's, more ting than a regular M

I need a mechical keyboard to write a lot and with a numpad.
After a bit of research I set my eyes on the Logitech G610 Orion with MX Brown at 80$.
Any better option?
Also: no gaming at all.

General shape of the case and led indicators give away the model in most of keyboards
Also these are not uncommon keyboards and I have seen them a lot
The Diamond Computers branding for the case of the g81 is rare though

What price did you get it for? I see some on ebay but they're either fucked up in some way or they are overpriced.

And yeh the sound may be different because of the thicker back plate. My Unicomp actually sounds more like the 1987 square label than any of my Industrial Model M's / standard Model M's do though which is pretty odd.

cheap $85

So lucky, I've paid that in shipping some of my boards alone

This is a REAL mechanical keyboard....

Nope, that's just gay
