I got called in a meeting today with my boss and a tech guy.
They pulled out my entire browsing history and it was a lot of boards.Sup Forums.org
They asked me a lot of questions about what the hell i am actually doing with my life.
Is this even legal? Can i prevent this from happening again somehow? They gave me an ultimatum and said they monitor every fucking step i take and if i ever do this again ill get fired.
Why don't they just block Sup Forums outright? I suspect the tech fag is reading this tomorrow cause he jerks off to hentai like you guys.
Maybe you should be on Sup Forums at home and actually be doing your job at work instead of trying to treat your boss like a cuck.
Nathaniel Nelson
You're getting fired for being shit.
Luke Richardson
Then know you're weak enough to actually take this and continue being their pawn. If you had any ounce of respect or talent, you would leave and find another job.
Grayson Walker
Sorry to hear about that user. Hope it all works out for you in the future.
Isaiah White
i work in HR for a big company and there sometimes isn't much else to do really.
I get all my work done in a few hours and sit out the rest and chill. There can be days where i have literally nothing to do at all.
Should i change careers to do more with my life? I make 65k now and i get promoted even though i don't do anything.
I started with 43k like 4 years ago fresh out of college.
I don't know what to do with the money i earn, my job is not challenging at all and im bored all the time.
Christian Stewart
should have gone incognito bro
Leo Bailey
use your phone instead
Jace Hall
This user has a good idea
Parker Sanders
Get into guns. You will burn that money and have a fucking blast.
Levi Watson
>Be at work >Decide to fuck around instead of actually... you know... work >Wonder why you're being pulled in and told off for it Believe it or not, the browsing 4chinz at work thing is a meme. The reason there's SFW boards is so when people go on their (own) phones/tablets/laptops while on their lunch break or out in public, there's less chance for CP or embarrassment
Jacob Cook
>Is this even legal? Read your contract, if it's not specified there read work law of your country.
>Can i prevent this from happening again somehow? Besides getting your shit together? TOR, incognito mode, proxy.
Dominic Allen
Phone posters win again!
Chase Gomez
>I sit around and do nothing all day As fucking expected of HR. Jesus fucking fuck I hate you pricks. If there's nothing to do, USE YOUR FUCKING INITIATIVE AND FIND/ASK FOR SOMETHING TO DO.
Hudson Perry
Good luck ever getting a job in that career again anyway
Sebastian Brown
i pretend to work and when i use my phone all the time it kinda becomes obvious ... i could do it i guess from time to time
if i had a gun id kill myself
i like the blue boards but you are right. Its sometimes scary cause some weeb shit might post hentai
theres obviously nothing in my contract that says i get monitored. I know the contracts very well since i write them myself lol.
I guess there aren't any laws against your boss telling you to start working properly.
why so mad at HR?! Where do you work?
my company has a big name so i dont think ill have problems finding a job somewhere else in that "career". I graduated from a top university. People in HR value these nice looking CVs i guess lol.
Ian Price
Doesn't matter where I work, what I'll say is this; we have a dedicated HR team of four people. Yesterday, not a single fucking person was around. The last couple of weeks, including up to today, we haven't had the upcoming weeks schedules ready to look at because of HR being lazy niggers until the Thursday/Friday/Saturday or sometimes even Sunday. They spend their time doing all of this bollocks that isn't necessary (drawing posters about inane shit) but don't do the fucking important shit. And when you go to them with an issue? >"O-oh, sorry, I'm not trained to ______" Even though that's their whole fucking job.
Dylan Bennett
>Not assuming that in the first place
If you're not paying for the internet and you control none of the routers, you should assume anything you are doing on the connection is public, dumb frogposter, just like using the internet connection at your local Starbucks.
Josiah Wright
Could've bought a laptop and browser 4chinz from there. Also if you're bored you could also learn some new skills, like learn programming, unreal or something else.
Carter Morris
Explain yourself faggot. You're an adult, you have a job, and you browse Sup Forums -- a fucking technology board, and you're incompetent enough to not know how to safely tunnel out of your jobs network? It's not fucking rocket science. You deserve it because you're either fucking incapable of basic problem-solving skills or you're lazy enough to browse imageboards on your companies dime and not caring that they might catch you.
Hudson Nguyen
>Nothing in my contract about being monitored Never had a job before? Fucking hell, are you mentally cunted? Of fucking course you've always got to assume you're being watched. Your being paid to WORK and your performance IS critical to you keeping your job. WHY should ANYONE want to hire someone who does jack fucking shit yet feels entitled to keep their job?
Ethan Perry
>WHY should ANYONE want to hire someone who does jack fucking shit yet feels entitled to keep their job? Diversity quotas.
Jayden Scott
sorry that you have such a bad experience with people from HR. I mean i like to think that ia ctually get my work done cause i do it and then chill. Its not like that i dont do anything at all but the workload can be so little.
Most people stretch it out over the ful lday i just do it in an hour or two and im done with it and chill the rest.
well i guess i felt too safe cause i progressed so quickly and nothing happened in 4 years.
why not bring a bed too?
im not a regular on Sup Forums tbqh
the irony is that im the one who hires people and not the other way around.
Its kind of sad. I sometimes look that applications and think to myself that this person is super qualified and knows all these things and did all these crazy things but we deny them cause they might not be a good fit or whatever.
Depends on the department they are needed for.
Christian Lewis
What is the extent of the monitoring? Do they have like a teamview/ remote access and are watching everything in real time? Could you not just setup a VM and run a vpn through it?
Easton Ross
this desu senpai
xd
Jace Roberts
>i work in HR for a big company and there sometimes isn't much else to do really. if that was really the case, you could just have defended yourself with that argument, right?
but in fact you are just not letting ur boss know youre free for more work
>use your phone instead >i pretend to work (OP) well OP, then use your phone's internet, router it and connect from the PC and browse.
they are probably monitoring both via traffic, which you will bypassing via phone... and also via some spy software on your computer, which probably works via LAN, but to be on the safe side, you could boot up a "Hirens Bootcd" or "ultimate bootcd for windows" from a flashdrive..
cant you just take a laptop to work and use it with smatphone internet?
Christian Martin
incognito doesn't block traffic logs, only stops it from being collected on your own browser. IT guy will still see everything.
OP try using Tor, or browse on your phone while not being connected to local wifi
John Gonzalez
Even if nothing happened in 4 years, you can assume something like a "increase productivity" type initiative can happen and I bet a ton of other people besides you got caught at your company and it will now have the desired effect on your company and whoever initiated it will get a bonus/raise.
Brody Gray
I just shit-post on my phone through 4G network while at work. Not that complicated.
Gavin Bennett
what they meant by that is that they will check what im doing on a regular basis and not just surprise me again with this in 4 years
honestly i'd just become a NEET. Daddy will leave me a nice inheritance and other people can go into the corporate world.
Im just stealing their opportunities by being a rich kid who got it all handed to him in his life.
ofc i told my boss that there isnt actually any work i havent done and told him i do it all and said the same things to him.
He just told me that he didnt expect this attitutde from me and thought i'd look for work myself etc blah blah.
sure. Usually we are ahead of these things and know about it since we are HR but they caught us off guard. Guess ill have to fire a few people soon cause they were even worse than me and browsed porn sites or whatever haha.
Zachary Smith
Yeah OP. Download Tor at work.
Gavin Robinson
use your phone stupid phone poster.
Chase Turner
>SFW boards is so when people go on their (own) phones/tablets/laptops while on their lunch break or out in public, if its lunch break and your computer (and your internet maybe?) why worry with NSFW shit, grow a fucking pair, other than prospective females thinking less respectably of you, a grown person shouldn't explain himself, i bet youre like a friend of mine who hides porn from his girlfriend on His computer, last time mine tried to get satisfaction from me for fiding porn on my cellphone ended up having to explain why she was spying my shit instead of just using my whatsapp to contact my cousin, grow a fucking pair
Lincoln Torres
Phone poster GTFO
Levi Wright
This is bad advice. The sysadmin is going to know that you're using Tor and his boss is just gonna drill him more.
Camden Sanchez
I'm a proxy admin for my company. If you're in the US, yes it's legal. If you're in EU countries it varies. I have no knowledge outside of that.
This is stupid stupid stupid. Always assume company internet is monitored. As others have said, phone post if you must (and if it's a company phone run by an MDM don't even fucking do that because it's 50/50 it's run back through the same proxy).
you are lucky you got off with a warning frankly because if our HR saw the shit on Sup Forums they would shit themselves from fear of offensive and obscene material (if it was just Sup Forums you could argue it's worksafe but w/e just no).
To avoid: 1. If you must use company browser and proxy is set by GPO - no avoiding. 2. If proxy is set by wpad/option252 DHCP then you can override in internet options. 3. IE and chrome use DHCP first then DNS (the non-ratified RFC says DHCP is supposed to trump but it's not an official standard so people ignore it). Firefox uses DNS first but also can be overridden. 4. Assuming you can override it if they have open internet they're stupid. The chances are you would need a different proxy. Unlikely. 5. SSL content is only monitored with SSL bump. Sometimes you can play with this. If SSL is actually secure you could corkscrew/ssh/tunnel out. 6. If it's SOCKS goodluck.
But seriously, why not just do your job and suck it up?
Joseph Martin
IT guy here. Dont fuck with us.
No, really. There is not many things that infuriate an IT staff than a user trying to play the smartass with us.
A capable IT guy will be able to see EVERYTHING that you do on the corporate network. One thing that users dont seem to realize (or pretend they dont realize) is that the network access and the computer that the company provides you to do your work are company's property, not yours.
Besides, you are payed to do your job. Dont like the rules? GTFO! nobody is forcing you to stay! but if you do, dont go ranting on FB and twitter.
This doesnt solve much, again, a capable IT staff will be able to watch your traffic.
Dunno mate, buy a book, or an audiobook or something instead of wasting IT, your boss and your company's time
>Can i prevent this from happening again somehow? >Besides getting your shit together? TOR, incognito mode, proxy. Again, this will altert IT staff sooner or later, and you'll be flagged as a troublemaker that is putting company's assets at risk by circumventing internet access restrictions.
Brandon Bailey
pretty sure meant it sarcastically. that's how I read it, anyways
Zachary Perry
I disagree and go the other way. I like the challenge presented and if OP is too stupid to know he has a giant fucking target on him and will likely get "special" treatment and attention I want to give him a way to carry on for a while until the flaming hand of justice reaches forth from the server room.
>yeah OP it's not fair! >you should totally show those guys your tech superiority
Jason Baker
>IT guy here. Dont fuck with us.
Juan Barnes
>besides, you are payed to do your job
Didn't OP say that he gets his job done? I don't see the problem.
>IT monkeys pretending to know shit again >mfw
Jonathan Sanchez
yeah i dont want to cause more trouble. Ill find out who else got fucked by the fech fags from our department.
In the end we are HR and we can just fire back and put a target on them lol.
Honestly i could start a conspiracy so big i'd get them all out and just hire new incompetent IT fags from Sup Forums that have no clue what they are doing and i can shitpost again.
I could turn their life into hell with constant performance meetings, budgeting shit and what not. Get Finance in and we all gang up on IT lol.
Not sure if its worth the effort and im not that much of a psychopath but it could be a fun game to get into tbqh.
Christopher Cruz
there's a simple special script I save for this once a minute run taskkill /m target /im browser.exe /f
>oh really your browser isn't working? >did you put in a ticket? >it looks like you were on pandora again, that seems to be the problem >we'll reset your browser/give you a fresh deployment in a couple days, please make sure anything you want to save is on your network share / backed up >repeat
Dylan Foster
not but you're talking out your ass. bandwidth is money and reduces other's productivity, slows email, slows intersite coms, VoIP etc. play solitare and I might have some sympathy but listen to "the network is sloooooowww!!" while people watch youtube and something in your head snaps
Joseph James
You realize that this is a losing battle right? If OP wins, then the IT guy gets replaced for someone better that will enforce harsher net access rules and policies, which in turn will be a return to square one, and that is if he were undetected by the previous IT guy.
If OP loses, he'll get his lazy ass fired
Alexander Fisher
yeah at this point I'm aiming for giving OP just enough rope
Gavin Wood
i t g e t s b i g g e r w h e n i p u l l o n i t
Isaac Turner
Stop working and becomes NEET.
Andrew Cooper
maybe they left us alone cause are HR and they are afraid.
Don't you guys think i should leverage some of my power?! Im in a good position here.
Usually people that get caught are afraid that tech hands the case over to HR but i am fucking HR.
To the tech fags here:
Name some of the worst things that could happen to you on your job?
Ayden Morgan
>Honestly i could start a conspiracy so big i'd get them all out and just hire new incompetent IT fags from Sup Forums that have no clue what they are doing and i can shitpost again. >I could turn their life into hell with constant performance meetings, budgeting shit and what not. Get Finance in and we all gang up on IT lol. >Not sure if its worth the effort and im not that much of a psychopath but it could be a fun game to get into tbqh. MY SIDES Delusions of grandeur much? if you were capable of doing that you would be doing it already, instead of spewing your deluded plans to us.
lets assume for argument's sake that ypur plan finds a posotive outcome. >put incompetent schmuk in IT >get owned by, say, a ransomeware attack >everybody runs like headless chickens >IT guy cant do shit, gets fired >hey! remember Mark? he was capable, who hired the fucker that let this shitstorm happemed?
Asher Wood
It's not your network. It's his. It's perfectly legal you complete asshole. Do your job. This is a major act of disrespect toward your boss. You're obviously wasting his time and money by not working when you should be. Smarten up.
Jace Torres
>if you were capable of doing that you would be doing it already, instead of spewing your deluded plans to us.
why do you assume that im a fucking psychopath who likes to get into petty corporate mindgames immediately?
im a human being and i dont want to crack down on people for doing their job properly
i do my work though and got a raise every year since i started
Alexander Russell
well then if you're gonna jack it to chinese cartoons do it in your car during lunch and disconnect from the company wifi.
David Martinez
Use an ssh tunnel
Benjamin Evans
your browser needs to route dns through the tunnel though. firefox: about:config network.proxy.socks_remote_dns;true
Get phone or your own hotspot my friend. It just werks.
Noah Cook
There's an easy solution to this problem
Setup a VPN at home and connect to it from work. A capable IT guy know your using a VPN but will see nothing but encrypted traffic beyond that.
Hudson Moore
>called your bluff >I-I-I was just kidding yeah right.
Lets put it in other terms. Someone already mentioned that some of the boards in here are NSFW, and whether you liked or not, Sup Forums have a certain reputation.
If someone catches wind that an employee is an active Sup Forums user and content hosted in Sup Forums is being in your network / saved on a company hard disk, this could be interpreted as a PR liability.
If some kind of cyberattack (virus outbreak, ransomware, DDOS) is unleashed at your company guess which user will be at the top of the shitlist.
Dominic Clark
you should've set up linux VM with VPN connection to your house on bridged connection (public wifi in your company?) If you just browse the internet through your normal native browser you're a cuck and you should kys immediately
Chase Brooks
marry me, I'll spend your money
Gavin Wilson
I bet you never worked in a corporation If you did all you had to do you can just relax and browse Sup Forums, nobody gives a shit as long as your work is done nicely. But yeah, it mostly applies to work in IT. If you work in another market sector you should kys, kek
Charles Morales
So then the admin blocks access to the VPN and knows he's trying to hide his traffic so he can fuck around at work and waste the company's time. I'd block standard VPN access in a heartbeat. That would get him fired. OP just needs to do his job and stop going on a website that contains pornography at work. How retarded are you?
Jackson Kelly
yeah well like i said. We actually make the decisions about who gets fired and who doesn't. Its not that im on bad terms with my boss or the rest of the team. We are really close actually.
I assume the tech fags wanted to show off at the start of the year and proposed this initiative for no reason and honestly it probably annoys everyone but ofc they have to go through with the process.
I still feel really safe actually. Now that i realized that i can fire back i feel better.
Im still in this "fresh grad" mindset. I never really got out of it but i have some experience now and im not a student anymore who gets beaten around.
I-i-m a big guy now.
post ass
Jackson Reyes
Normal employer doesn't give a fuck what you do if your work is done.
Carson Miller
>gets caught browsing Sup Forums >goes to Sup Forums to report that yeah, right, nobody is this stupid
Sebastian Wilson
normal employers aren't like that at all, actually. they want you doing nothing but work on company time. if you're finishing your work in under 40 hours a week, they want to find that out so they can give you more work.
This is why normies that want to slack usually do it by stretching out two hours of work into eight, instead of just doing two hours of work and then chilling. It's why people put so much effort into looking busy.
Luke Hernandez
>there is only 1 timezone
Logan Ross
because I'm not the man in the middle who installed my certs on your work PC.
>Not using a portable browser with a setup VPN on it, for maximum privacy.
I am not sure how legal your shit is, but I do browse Sup Forums at work, on Firefox with a SPAC-configured VPN. All my browsing is encrypted and nobody gets to intrude on my privacy.
Benjamin Harris
>they want to find that out so they can give you more work. but this is stupid, you know. This kills alignment of employees and lowers morales.
But well, I work in IT master race, so I can actually play games from steam on my work laptop, play on xbox/ps4 available for everyone, watch movies, stream gaymes from my home and NOBODY EVER gives a shit as long as my work is done.
Aaron Roberts
>I work in HR Then you should know if employees apparently can't find work to do then they aren't needed.
Isaac Foster
I can also work 4 out of 5 days remotely from my house and report only once a day for status. Of course not mentioning the phone which has to be on and I have to be available, but nobody called me since like a year.
So, how does it feel to not work in IT? Do you enjoy being a wagecuck slave?
Xavier Anderson
So this IT person that is too lazy to block Sup Forums will instead sniff traffic, use their ESP to determine exactly what is going on over an encrypted, non-standard, home VPN connection, then will take it a step further by blacklisting an IP in an effort to penalize one user of a personal VPN?
I doubt that
Josiah Rogers
we have over 10k employees my dude across multiple continents.
It rarely ever happens that someone gets fired for "not working". Its usually down to performance which mean that he didnt do anything he just couldn't do it the "right way". Sure its interconnected bullshit but there are a LOT OF people who don't do anything at all and get paid a lot.
This is normal. One day you will find a job too and realize that everyones just chilling in an office.
Levi Hughes
more like OP was not doing his work properly so his boss asked IT dept for his browsing history. You do your job nicely and then chill, no other way around it.
Hudson Hughes
the r9k NEET fantasy squad is at it again
Jordan Long
Lol kid, I'm RIGHT NOW working from my house. I don't know if this is normal in the US or not, but here where I live IT companies are very desperate to get any employees at all, so they offer these sweet conditions. Just think about it. If I'm 100% available and my work is done flawlessly then what's the point of me traveling 100kms to the company hq just to do the remote job for client anyway? Just find a job, you'll understand what I'm talking about
Nathan Perry
Yeah and they had his browsing history because he wasn't using a VPN to begin with. I've been down the same road at my work, although even more petty. It was over youtube. Not a word about it since I setup the VPN at home
Angel Mitchell
>We actually make the decisions about who gets fired and who doesn't. It's simple then, just vote not to fire yourself and then no one can get rid of you.
Alexander Hughes
it's usually much simpler than using VPN. If you were given a laptop you can just bridge vm nic with public access wifi (for guests, I mean)
Levi Wright
Tell him you only went to the safe for work boards so it's okay.
Caleb Bailey
>tfw employer remotely making screenshots of your desktop ;_;
Brody Anderson
You say you don't know what to do with your money. How about a 4g tablet and a keyboard case? I got a similar talking to last year. I just stopped browsing at work.
Benjamin Turner
Can IT see what you post, pictures you expand etc. or just what pages you go to?
David Sanders
If in your contract it stated anywhere that they will monitor browsing activity on equipment belonging to the company then they very much can.
Andrew Allen
Browse from your phone?
Ethan Wilson
>i work in HR
you could consider killing yourself for being the detritus of the business world.
Luis Clark
If it's HTTPS, they would have to install a certificate on your browser to do this. Over regular HTTP, it's fully visible. Sup Forums doesn't force HTTPS. Over HTTPS all they see is the domain name and the encrypted data. say you visit https:// boards.Sup Forums.org / g / they don't see the / g / part. Just encrypted data. Again, if it's a work PC and IT really wants to monitor everything, I'd assume they've installed a certificate in the web browser.
Austin Rogers
they probably got altiris installed on all client machines. No need to play with certificates if you can install any software on the computer.
Landon Brooks
True, but as an admin I'd do both.
Jackson Cook
yeah but its so fucking obvious when i pull all of this out lmao
we have offices of 4 and can see each others desks
how come there is so much hostility on this board against HR departments?
Adam Morgan
>reddit spacing Go back to your shitty plebbit site, faggots. Youre not welcome here.
Elijah Morris
Being as dumb as you is illegal K Y S Y S
Nicholas Cruz
we do this to piss off phone posters like you
2k,4k and 8k desktop display master race users reached a gentlemens agreement a while ago and piss off all low res and phone posters.
Its hilarious when we watch them screech and call it reddit spacing when they are the problem themselves.
Caleb Jenkins
Fucking this. Been in guns most of my life thanks to having the world's greatest dad. Can confirm you will spend money like you're throwing it in a fucking hole
Elijah Lewis
>we do this to piss off phone posters like you How the fuck does this affect phone users? Stop with excuses and go back.
Luke Russell
Get a hobby. Get into music or something outdoors... get into cars. just do something
Ethan Nelson
>Is this even legal? Yes. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy at work, with the exception of the bathroom.
Michael Morris
Don't fall into a power trip, dog. I know it sounds appealing and I've done it. Just don't push the issue and use ur position to climb the corporate ladder, not attack IT guys.
Gavin Wilson
You're a dipshit and an idiot If i were in your position i would: 1. Browse from phone 2. Befriend IT 3. Save bucket loads of money 4. Quit and tour the world
Always befriend IT, I'm in IT myself and notice that i go that extra mile and turn a blind eye for colleagues that are friendly to me
