I don't have to pay 600 bucks for a font that later i'll use to trasnslate a chinese comic.

It's fast, no ads, straight to the point.

Really? You couldn't work that one out on your own?

Portability, keep-ability.

Pirating via torrents allow the poorer individuals in society to give back in the form of computeing resources via trojans

Convenience
I'm pretty sure TPB does have ads, just the shady VPN kind and not the shady porn kind

The ads are context sensitive like everything other website since 2004. Are you female or do you keep a clean history?

>install ublock origin (30 second process maximum, helps browsing in general, not just piracy)
>pirate content
>no ads
>double click, movie starts, no ads
alternatively
>want to watch a movie through normal, publisher approved means
>"LOL U SHOULDNT PIRITT IT'S ILL EAGLE" 4x which isn't even true, it's just illegal to share the pirated files with others through mechanisms such as seeding
>15 minutes worth of unskippable trailers before movie starts
>movie about to start
>"LOL U SHOULDNT PIRITT IT'S ILL EAGLE" 2x
>movie plays
>gotta finish it within 2 days because it expires after that
>email notifications reminding you to watch it before it's too late

>Prime Video
>Press play
>Pay if required
>Dirt cheap

...

> (You)
Oh okay. That can be annoying. I get it. I should be thankful that Prime works with MHL.

It's objectively better for anything that isn't an executable file.

I can think of a few.
>some content is hard to find in certain countries This is especially true if you speak more than one language or have moved country, the content you want may not be available through ordinary means.

>getting jewed for quality
If there was a blu ray release I don't want a dvd only release in my region. Also cut content for certain markets that seem inexplicable. Not paying high prices for watered down shit.

>retrowarez/nostalgia
Can often be hard to find videos/games etc that were released a long time ago on older formats. Without a remaster/rerelease they die out. I'll often torrent something good even if I bought it officially because the torrent will last for decades.
Thanks to whoever continues to seed stuff from the 70s-90s, I found some childhood gems that I thought I'd never see again.

These are things nobody ever mentions but I think are pretty important and ignored too often.
You look at download statistics and they tell you that areas where a streaming service or content is missing sees high torrent activity. Somebody could tap into these markets by observing such stats, if only they were not ignored so much and companies stopped bitching about muh piracy.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as piracy, is in fact, unauthorized copying, or as I've recently taken to calling it, unauthorized sharing. Piracy is not the act of obtaining an unauthorized copy of a copyrighted work, but rather robbery or criminal violence at sea.
Many computer users make unauthorized copies every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the act which is widely performed today is often called piracy, and many of the people who do it are not aware that it is basically copying, and not stealing.
There really is a piracy, and some people are doing it, but it is just robbery at sea. Piracy is an act of theft: an action at sea in which goods are forcefully transferred from one ship to another. Piracy is important to be aware of, but unrelated to unauthorized copying; it can only function at sea. Piracy is normally not used in combination with unauthorized copying: the two acts are basically seperate. All the so-called piracy is really unauthorized copying.

Two days ago someone said something about paid fonts and I couldn't believe it. I browsed some sites and there are fonts going for $2000, what the fuck? Why can't someone create a font that looks exactly like that one and name it different and make it free and then do the same for every paid font? Like they did with the Microsoft fonts, How can the industry of paid fonts even exist? Someone pls respond.

>torrenting.
>Not using newsgroups.

>it's free & most content isn't worth paying for
>it's easier to get your hands on it illegaly
>offline content doesn't rely on internet connection for playback
>diskspace isn't an issue anymore
>you're not locked out by geo-blocking
>some countries forbidds certain content
>it's drm-free, thus more versatile

actually owning the content.

>free
>no drm/always online
>sometimes no telemetry
>don't have to give money to companies you don't like

>Pirating via torrents allow the poorer individuals in society to give back in the form of computeing resources via trojans
How do you suppose people get viruses from video/audio files?

torrent uploads of popular freeware often has way higher download speeds than the official downloads too

audio/video parsing libraries bugs leading to exploits

They call it piracy to enforce the fact that it's illegal but it's not.

It's not illegal.

Human culture and knowledge should be freely available to everyone.

When you pay for say a movie or a song, you give less than 10% of that price to those who actually made the content. It's a bullshit system that should and will die eventually, i'm glad the music industry is already collapsing more every year and i'm glad that you can make a living producing songs and albums without being in this shit industry.

It's even more bullshit when the people who made the content are long dead. It's even more bullshit when they take a now public domain (abandonware) game or software and put it on steam for a small price where the content is, in fact, free as in rights&price.

It's questionably more bullshit when they do a shitty remake of a game that was perfect and sell it to children who can't know better just to keep the money flowign.

I hate money, money is useless, money kills more people every year than anything else, money is already rendered useless but they keep telling you that you need to work to earn the right to live. They tell you that you need money to buy knowledge, they tell you that you need money to be a good human being. IT's all a lie, it's all bullshit already but we've been endoctrinated, enslaved for so long that we can't imagine it to be a lie. But it is. And it will continue and go on until AI&robots replace 60% of the jobs and finally free humanity. Yes, they won't be able to lie forever, why would i need to earn my right to live if a robot can do all the work and better than us ?

Yes i know, i'll die before it happens.

Actually i'll die today.

Could I get your PC if you are going to die anyway?

Typography people are a very special breed of autistic. Imagine combining severe asperger's with the stereotypical artist's mix of pseudoscience and arrogance, and you'll get a pretty good picture of how font designers think.

You get viruses and bad quality, just buy it.

You're fucking stupid if you think that this is a common occurrence. Most video exploits are for things like .wmv .swf and .mov that nobody in their right mind would accept in a torrent and the best they can generally do is embed urls in the files that launch a website saying you need to download a codec which is actually a virus.

At the end of the day, it's easier to pirate, AND the watching experience is simply better for all visual media.

>Why can't someone create a font that looks exactly like that one
because that's copyright infringement

It was a generic question and I never implied it happened often or that exploits are easy to come about
And there used to be at least one code execution vuln for mkv which ?I think? is a popular container format used on torrents cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2011-3504/

The question was a sarcastic response to not a generic question tbqh

Kek.

>using content in 2017
you what m8?

This. I don't see why you would need it.

Free and fast
Netflix
>go to Netflix
>enter password
>find show
>click play
>wait
>nothing happens
>switch to chrome
>repeat
>silverlight doesn't work on chrome sometimes
>switch to edge
>repeat
>oh shit, our shitty DRM needs the latest jewtel CPU

Or Netflix doesn't have what I want

Pirate
>Go to tracker
>Type what I want
>Choose quality
>Click magnet
>Wait
>Open in whatever player I want on whatever device I want

Pirate (anime)
>Go to mal (if not there already for tags/synopsis)
>Click open in nyaa
>Select quality
>Click add to transmission
>Wait
>Watch

Is just so much easier to pirate than it is to actually pay for shit, mostly due to their anti piracy techniques

Avengers.avi.exe

>Actually i'll die today.
What did he mean by this?

>>Wait
you can stream it while you download an play it

pls no bully

he fucked up
never fuck up

>Why can't someone create a font that looks exactly like that one and name it different and make it free and then do the same for every paid font
They do, to an extent. If you made it the exact same that would be copyright infringement but if you look up " free alternative" there'll often be free options that look slightly different suggested.

Doesn't really matter since I can get the files in under a minute

How about some nice fonts for just $2999/month, user.

adobe.com/products/fontfolio.html

Or $0 at Pirate Bay LMAO.

>tfw pirated so much that you're pretty sure they are going to smack you one of these days
>been getting extremely paranoid lately and doing it a lot less

who ktf

try to buy the discography of Lux Occulta

Because good fonts are highly influential in persuasion, marketing, making things look good etc

So it stands that well made fonts are expensive because it'll be expected to be used everywhere by the buying client

For instance, there's that research showing students who use Georgia instead of TNR received higher scores.

You can get a bluray in under a minute?

It's free, just works 99% of the time, and I can use it wherever. Literally no drawback other than a slap on the wrist from your isp if you don't use a VPN.

Because ''sharing is caring''

get out of my helicopter commie

Well yeah. I remember seeing that shit on kazaa and limewire and knowing better. Somehow I just knew to be wary of file extensions and file sizes for anything suspicious. And I was like 10 for kazaa and 12-14 on limewire. I don't see any of that on TPB and similar sites these days. But I don't fuck with anyone without a pink or green skull.

Uuuuuuuu!

because its free and not everything is simply available to buy. Movies and tv shows get old, they arent sold anymore and the only way to watch them is through torrents or online streaming for free.

>there are ppl itt who are scared of torrenting

it's good when you live in a third world country where nobody gives a shit about what you download

no DRM

>go to private tracker
>nothing, have to register (pay)
>accounts being another currency
WHY IS FREE BEER NOT FREE!

t. pajeet

Well said. It's fucking bullshit that people want money for something that can be reproduced an infinite number of times. Imagine what these people are going to do once the production of physical goods are automated.

I used to pirate everything.
Now I'm too lazy to torrent 65gb for a game that i might have to patch later on etc.
Besides that I don't mind spending 50€ on a decent game.
But im not going to pay 15€ a month to see some chick showing her gaping asshole to the camera.

Thank you. I also believe this.

When I discovered Venus Project and similar things, I was glad I'm not alone. Money is artificial. Why do so many people still trick themselves....idk....

>Free
>Easy
>No DRM
>Multiple quality options for videos

I tried doing legitimate digital copies with companies like Time Warner and they all sucked due to their cumbersome DRM nonsense. I literally torrent movie I legitimately own just because it's an easier way to get a good digital copy.

Reminder that you uploading content as you torrent

Offline playback on any device

>paying for your pirated content

I used to torrent a lot, mostly old shows that if i were to buy would cost me a hell a lot of money. Now some things, like the Ultimate Edition james bond dvd sets, i bought cause the upgraded pic/sound quality and lots of bonus stuff. plus I'm a fan, lol.

>slap on the wrist from your isp

Or live in Canada where there isn't even a slap.

also cause the digital nature allows very easy streaming to any dnla device in the house vs having to insert a disc, which will over time cause the disc to get damaged, so you end up wasting money cause you then have to buy a replacement copy.

I think one thing to consider is how a lot of business managers are like troglodytes or something. They are only running old school business models and refuse to allow newer advancements in technology. For ridiculous licensing like if you are not in the right country or region then you cant watch something and many times its not even available though legitimate channels in your region as in they dont even offer or make it available through legitimate channels, so they only way to get it is through so called pirating. And lets say you move to a new region then all the content you previously legitimately purchased is no longer legitiamtely available to you anymore again because of ridiculous out dated licensing restrictions.

What can they possibly do to you?

Torrenting does not equal piracy, some devs distribute their legitimate software trough torrents.

Now, if you are talking about piracy, the most obvious benefit is that it's free you god danm moron. But also DRM free, which is a big deal for a lot of us, also good to find content that isn't sold anywhere, and like others have mentioned, to get content that is usually not allowed in your country.

I bought the 20 season box set of Law & Order cause I'm a fan of the show a few yrs ago. Was expensive but all the torrents that existed for it all sucked ass. a few were good, but most all sucked damn station logos, poor encode quality, forced subs, etc. So I just said fuck it and bought the whole set. Took me 5 months to do a proper rip of it all. But the results were well worth it. Got a proper rip, got the original dvds tucked away safe and sound, got a backup of all my digital films so no more long ass encode jobs for me.

Literally everything.

I can't think of any benefits of getting content through official channels rather than infringing copyright other than bragging rights

>want to watch a movie legally
>have to go to the store/order online and wait/arse myself
>acquire a genuine physical release of a movie
>make sure the DRM technology on my blu ray enabled device is compatible with DRM required by the disk
>make sure my HDMI cable, display and blu-ray player support the DRM technology required by the disk
>put the disk in the drive
>watch 10 minutes of unskippable FBI logos threatening me how much jail i'll get for watching this movie with more than 3+ of my friends
>watch the movie
>it fucking sucks
>money well spent faggot

vs

>want to watch a movie
>go to tpb
>download rip with english audio only (enjoy your 10GB+ of hindu, malay, thai and russian overdub)
>put it on anything that's capable of decoding the particular codec (most likely x264, which is fucking ancient therefore anything can play it)
>open the file, movie starts right off the bat
>movie fucking sucks
>remove from the storage, give a shitty score on imdb, never talk about agian

Not being treated as a criminal.

>buy content
>layers over layers over layers of DRM bullshit
>unskippable MUH COPYRIGHT warnings

>pirate content
>it just fucking werks

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call Jew films "culture".

This belongs in the STUPID QUESTION thread.

Better quality when official channels fuck paying customers in the ass such as Crunchyroll.

I live in a PAL region so, if the show's American it's the only way to watch it without a retarded pitch shift.

Fonts are the speaker cables of writing. You don't need other than the free/cheap ones, yet people will spend thousands on them to not notice a difference.

I'm a graphic designer and can confirm this.
but damn if Helvetica isn't one super fine piece of font I'll be damned.

What is the problem with TNR? It works fine for its intended purpose. That is put lots of stuff on small space. And papers usually need that.

Sharing > buying for wise and mature people
It's the opposite for retarded sheepy consumers

not even memeing here.

Encrypt everything, if you live in a shit-tier country where encryption is illegal do a failsafe. Like rigging you computer/NAS with thermite and when you press it everything will burn, you can also set up som sort of trap that will activate it if someone enters without doing thing x.

You could get a anime episode in a (few) minute(s).

>free
>no DMR
>you get to keep your stuff is service X bankrupts/crashes/etc.
>no ads or shit like "you wouldn't steal a car"

lmfao

I get all the media centralized plus I dont have to pay 5+ sites just to have thw shit available.

>most content isn't worth paying for
This is actually very true. I haven't seen much stuff that I think would be worth paying the price of lately.

It would be good with something like Amazon's "frustration free packaging" for movies, like "frustration free playback".
I don't even know why they put all copyright shit on movies, does it ever work?
