What is it like living there? I have an interest in moving there eventually, but I would like to know:
1) Is it worth trying to immigrate there from the US?
2) If so, what skills should I have besides learning the language to give me a fighting chance?
I have mostly read up on the challenges and drawbacks to trying to move there, thus I know I lose like a million point for being from the US. But I enjoy the folklore, I enjoy the idea of strong independence, and Icelandic is uniquely beautiful in my opinion, especially cos of how easy it is to read ancient text (ceratinly cannot do that with English).
That's a bad idea, user. You sure you can handle their climate? It's bit extreme to say the least, you'd get 24h of sunlight in the summer and 24h of darkness in the winter, but of course you know that.

>moving the the most liberal country on earth fuck outta this country you commie cunt

The lads are probably asleep.

1) No, the economy is trash and people are emigrating in droves. 2) The language and maybe computer science is your best bet.
Andrew Ward
I have lived in Alaska so I've had a taste. I personally enjoy it.
You do realise the US is so far to the right that Bernie is considered centrist, possibly even right leaning everywhere else?
That's not necessarily a bad thing. The prescription for depression here in the US is sack the fuck up and deal with it (Protip: this is a terrible cure).
Shit. Forgot about time difference. I'll just try to keep this up as long as possible.
I should have seen computer science in that. I also read that it seems they are slowly becoming the Hawai'i of the north because tourism is becoming more and more needed for them.
Xavier Gray
You really don't have to learn the language, almost everyone is proficient in English. People here are pretty casually progressive/liberal/left-leaning, though Iceland is considered the most right wing of all the Nordic countries (which doesn't say very much). Don't even bother coming here if you're a poorfag, shit is Norway levels expensive. The wind breeze is cold and not chilly/warm like many other European places and as the brazilian said, the summer is almost 20 hour sunlight, winters get pretty dark and snowy so some people take antidepressants (everyone can easily afford them, that's why we are top-ranking in taking them). Social Democracy =/= Communism
But people who move here generally always say that they love the country, the people, the landscape, the food. And as for skills I agree with that computer science is probably your best bet.
Christian Lewis
Hmm, maybe the material I was reading was a bit dated, but I was under the impression to get a really good job there, knowing Icelandic was mandatory despite everyone knowing English.
I figured it would be expensive. Sadly I am a poorfag at the moment, but I am in the process of fixing all of my financial fuck ups. Definitely gonna visit first just to make sure I could handle it.
Anthony Brooks
Being considered "the most right wing" out of all the Nordic nations is like being a gold medalist in the Special Olympics. It doesn't mean shit.
Too bad your youth is high on that UVG bullshit.
Levi Martinez
OP here, what is UVG?
Dominic Edwards
It's a youth divison of the Left-Green Movement politcial party in Iceland. The Left-Green Movement is the most left-wing party in Iceland but they don't manage the UVG, so it's mostly some naive liberal kids who think importing muslims will be a good idea. Sup Forums raided their only youtube video youtube.com/watch?v=kcWUewQrWtg
David Sanders
if you want to live in a country you definitely need to learn the language, that applies to every country on the earth. this snownigger is clueless
Thomas Thomas
Interesting. The comments section is definitely a mess in that video.
Pretty much what I figured. So what if English is spoken in a lot of places? It's only courteous to at least try to speak the language where you're visiting/wanting to move to.
Carter Bennett
Fuck off cunt
Robert Kelly
To be honest, I'm quite shocked you weren't earlier in the thread.
Cooper Jackson
I'm pretty much natsoc publicly and my friends dgaf

which culture? Bjork?

If you hate trees and love strong cold winds blowing in your face all the time then Iceland is the country for you
Ian Miller
I'm pretty ambivalent about trees. I like the cold and wind. If it's in my face, that's what coats and scarves were invented for.
Aaron Flores
men wear scarves?
Nathaniel Hill
They do in an area that is cold enough and they don't want to die. I live in Idaho, which isn't as cold, but I will still wear a scarf on the worst days in winter.
Joseph Bennett
what can even happen if you don't wear one?
it's gay as fuck
Blake Powell
Dude. How cold does it get in Brazil? Like seriously. It can reach about -15 c here.
If you're lucky, you just get some frostbite on your lips and nose and lose them.
If you're not so lucky, your lungs can freeze and you can die a really fucking horrible (albeit metal as fuck) death.
I'd rather be gay as fuck than dead.
Blake Cox
In cold places you have to. I live in Minnesota and if you dont wear a scarf in the winter your neck would get fucked by the wind unless you have a huge jacket
Kayden Gonzalez
>I enjoy the folklore The weird thing about Iceland is despite its remote location, there's very little that's traditional about Iceland. They were more fanatical Christians than mainland Christians(you can hear the Christian influence in terms like "blessathur" and Iceland has the fewest pagan artifacts of all Nordic countries).
Now Icelanders are more liberal than mainland liberals. Icelanders are more socialist and more feminist than Norwegians or Swedes.
Carson Jones
>Gay as fuck I've been to Brasil and there is no room to complain about men dressing gay. Scarves arent the soft thin kind like women wear for fashion, they are thick and warm
Nathan Bailey
He pretty much said wew lad
Elijah Bailey
hell rofl
In the coldest regions it gets to 5º C or something in the winter
I was in EU some days ago, it was not that cold, like 0-5º C but I didn't feel the necessity of scarves, only a normal jacket was enough
Noah Miller
Tourism can only go so far. Iceland does not have a lot of job opportunities and they certainly don't need American immigrants to compete with the native population. You could probably get a temporary position but if you don't have something lined up I'm afraid your shit out of luck m8.
Wyatt Kelly
Its about the wind rather than the temperature. Scarves are useful cause you can cover your face as much as you want, or your neck.
Adam Wright
>I enjoy the idea of strong independence Not sure what you mean by independence. Icelanders descended from slaves and they're always some country's bitch whether it's Norway, Denmark, UK, US, whatever.
Brayden Reyes
>scarves You would fit in in Reykjavík
Tyler Gutierrez
why don't you go there and spend some days?
Cameron Russell
That's what I was trying to get, but Google Translate doesn't do context very well. And I can barely introduce myself in Icelandic.
Definitely appreciate the tip
You didn't go far enough north, clearly.
It was in my plan to get something lined up. But I'm just trying to gather info right now, and make sure this is something I want to work for, cos I will be working my ass off for it.
??? I'm gonna need some sauce on that.
Realistically, yea. I enjoy a good latte too, but in all fairness where I live in the states, you're looked at with disgust if you don't drink coffee, or worse, drink at Starbucks.
Plus I suck at rural life, so appealing to technological needs and living in Reykjavík is how I would end up there IF I did.
I'm saving up for just that.
Landon Harris
>Icelandic is uniquely beautiful in my opinion It's a fucking rock.
Also forget about Icelandic women. Icelandic women have longer roastbeef than women in the US and Europe.
Ryan Jenkins
I was referring to the language more, but okay.
Jonathan King
Hello Laquisha

Most Icelandic colonists descended from thralls and other lowlifes.
Kevin Rivera
Thrall is fancy way to say slave faggot Just say slave or þræll if you want to be special
Matthew Watson
That looks pretty awesome actually, so yes.
lel
And? People like Australia and they descended from convicts. Origins do not make a country necessarily.
