Is there any serious talks around an open source, crowd funded alternative to youtube?

no

Vid.me

Literally why.

this
but its mostly gaymers

None so far.Youtube has become a monopoly.Accept that fate.

there's like a million filelockers that stream video

or you want a "community"? yt comments are cancer, and yt """celebrities""" are aids

a lot of alt-right retards on their as well

Isn't vid.me supposed to be temporary for videos or is that a different service?

media goblin is literally that

but it has a shitty name and logo so no one wants to touch it

I want a predictable and fair revenue stream paid to creators by their fans. Patreon but also it hosts the fucking video which they basically are doing via email.

>crowd funded
No need, just have a platform which openly states it will only remove illegal content.

Result: you attract advertisers who aren't afraid of social media witch-hunts.

>haha, how about them alt-right guys, like Sargon, and JonTron?
>they're sure retards, aren't they?

Fuck off to tumblr.

So is youtube

Google is transtioning youtube into something like tv or netflix, listen to some of the big youtubers talk about it. They keep altering the alglorithms which show recommended videos such that it will only show videos from channels who consistently push out videos with lots of views daily. This means that a kid with his camera at home will no longer be able to get famous vlogging, the only people that can push out that much content with quality are teams of people.

>teams of people
large corporates and media houses
FTFY

>implying youtube doesn't have them

A crowd funded JewTube would be impossible, at least on JewTube's scale. AFAIK even with all the ads they put, Google is still losing money.

I've been thinking about a distributed version of JewTube. Basically it'd use the bittorrent protocol to download/stream videos. If you like a channel, you can "subscribe," which means more than for JewTube because you'd be a priority seeder for the channel. This would be a giant project though. It wouldn't work in a browser so you'd need to reinvent the wheel a lot for the interface.

Running a service like Youtube is an expensive, non lucrative affair.YT has always operated in the red. Anything similar with non trivial traffic isn't a likely reality right now. That could change in 5 years or so but even that's optimistic.

No it's permanent. Decent replacement I'd say.

This site is 18+

You know you look like an idiot calling it JewTube, right? What does an American tech corporation serving up internet videos have to do with G-d's Chosen People?

Problem solved.

It's popular too, and shit doesn't disappear fucking constantly from it like on YT. So it's not only a reliable hosting service in general but also one of the best sites to mirror existing videos. It's already better than YT, if people just fucking used it it would probably be YT's biggest competitor.

can't even reach it for some reason

Why not vimeo or dailymotion

>can't even upload porn without getting account banned
into the trash

>What does an American tech corporation serving up internet videos have to do with G-d's Chosen People?
Look up the people who own Alphabet and you'll see why.

youtube-dl or an open front-end client and Vimeo is all you need champ

if you didn't get it, this is a subtle shilling thread for reddit's very own vid.me

Given the infestation of Sup Forumstard right wingers on vid.meme, I really don't think that is the case.

Get a load of this merchant, you know you look like an idiot calling Jews god's chosen people right? God chose em' to get gassed, seems like he's not too keen on the shekels my dude.

I doubt any alternative will present itself, similar to the issue with Photoshop. It's a branded product synonymous with it's purpose. No one says, I'll just look up a video for that. It's, I'll youtube it. Damn shame.

bandwidth isn't cheap enough relative to ad revenue to compete with YouTube.

you'd bleed out billions just trying.

framatube.org

French grogs did that. They only upload videos about free software and privacy etc. But they talked about letting anyone upload vids

>if people fucking used it

There is the freakin problem. Actually being able to provide a video streaming service for millions of people daily.

Videostreaming and streaming anything in general is extremely expensive with billions of active users, you can't simply place big annoying banner ads everywhere and hope to make some profit. You will barely even be able to pay off the site. All that bandwidth isn't going to pay for itself.

In Youtubes case, the only reason it still is alive is because all of that google money from adsense, google search, gmail etc.

In vid.mes case, the only reason it still is alive is because of sponsors. They have a 10 times worse advertisment system than Youtube and even use Google ads on their site so their own competitor earns money from them (they also use google analytics for statistics).
They loose money everyday and are slowly running out of the 10 million they got from their sponsors in hope of being profitable one day. Vid.me is a fucking joke.

>God chose em' to get gassed
And they kept their faith, so it seems he chose well. You, OTOH, have invented a god in your own image and still curse him every time you're stuck in traffic.

*If* they get big enough to be hit with lawsuits, and they survive those lawsuits then yeah. This will be a good alternative.

minds.com already exists though.

You do know that you sound like a sheeple, right?

(((OP)))

People use youtube for anything other than lectures and tutorials? News to me.

good for you user

because i used to have the same use case for youtube but then during a period of weakness i turned to the other side of youtube and it was a just a cacophony of confusion and nonsense like reality tv.

I have no happy merchant pictures so I'll leave you with this
