you don't need a workstation for photoshop.

get a pentium

>Trying to shit on Ryzen
>6900k 8c/16t is 6% slower than 7700k

This is a thread about how unoptimized Photoshop is for modern hardware, in truth.

Each 7700k core is over 40% faster than a 6900k core, so it adds up.

What the fuck am I reading

They should probably switch to something more modern like Affinity Photo, or test Raw workflow with Capture One, which does a better job of utilizing resources than Lightroom.

>Photoshop
>Workstation

Shit is normie tier software for limp wristed Applefag photographers. Try CAD software, industry tier rendering, or something that workstations are actually used for.

Also you're using CPU benches on a software that OpenCL accelerates off GPU.

Low quality bait

This

140x4=560
100x8=800

No it doesn't add up, shit programing is the only answer.

base clock for base clock is about 20% higher then broadwell, and because there is near no ipc gain from bradwell on, you are looking at at most 25% faster per core performance at stock.

if you overclock, that puts broadwell at 4.2 minimum and kaby at 4.9 (Going with numbers where the cpus have over 70% make it to there, not the 50% or less then 5.0 gives.) the gap shrinks to 17% difference at best.

photoshop is industry standard retard, its the entire reason artists are forced to use it over better programs for their tasks.

>day one tests

I wonder who could be behind this post.

youtube.com/watch?v=KSuIJECsePA&feature=youtu.be&t=238

Here's a dude in Vegas getting up to a 28% boost in rendering times by moving to faster memory.
Not only are most of the day one benchmarks useless because they're ran at 2133MHz, none of them have the updated BIOS/AGESA
Worse yet, a lot of those are ran on that shitty crashy ASUS

You're assuming 1% performance is gained from 1% increase in clockspeed.

Which cannot be further from the truth.

6900K has an allcore turbo of 3.5ghz and a dual core turbo of 3.7ghz
7700K has an allcore turbo of 4.4ghz and a single core turbo of 4.5ghz

IPC between Broadwell and Kaby is around 3%
Hyperthreading scaling is akin to 1/4th a core
All of the following assumes perfect scaling:
Single thread: 7700K 25% faster
Dual thread: 7700K 22% faster
Quad thread: 7700K 29% faster
Five thread: 7700K 10% faster
Six thread: 7700K 97% as fast
Seven thread: 7700K 89% as fast
Eight thread: 7700K 81% as fast
Sixteen thread: 7700K 65% as fast

From how Photoshop is scaling there, it's obviously around 1-4 threads.

Why should we care? Intel never had issues with launches, why do we suddenly have to lower our standards for AMD?

>Each core has + 70% efficiency.
>The whole thing is only + 3% more efficient.
Pic related.

Lmao.

High standards at the Intel camp.

intel_errata.novel

I'll be waiting with an upgrade until I feel like 8 threads aren't enough for what I want to do anymore.
Don't see any reason to ditch mine yet, especially since the OC bumps it's power up to Kaby Lake levels.

My 4 core is already on its last legs, not only does the platform have almost nonexistant support for NVME M.2 and never I/O, when I run 3 different browser profiles, one with some 400 tabs it really chokes, htop is showing all cores running at 100%
No to mention it's practically impossible to do something like scroll through a large pdf or watch a video while that's going on.

>sandy bridge: space heater toothpaste edition
yuck

reinstall windows

Well I guess I'm not that much of a power user, having 100 Tabs open is already rather rare for me.
My cooler can handle that.

Adobe stopped R&D for their classic lines years ago, they jumped in the AI and ML meme instead
Lightroom and their RAW processor still have shit support for the Fujifilm cameras, specially those with X-Trans sensors, despite them being amongst the most popular with pro's and hobbyists
And LR still works like shit with massive databases even with TOTL SSD's and RAID0 arrays and a shitton of RAM
They ate literally living purely on past fame, just like macOS does

>photoshop is industry standard retard, its the entire reason artists are forced to use it over better programs for their tasks.
Maybe in your shill faggotry, in the real world a lot of people have jumped ship to Krita and Corel

>BDW:
>Relatively bug free, but nobody bought desktop broadwell (non HEDT) anyway.
That's because Broadwell yields were so shit it was impossible to find, also it was delayed pretty close to Skylake launch giving it a really small lifespan
Intel skipped most desktop Broadwell SKU's due to this

Yeah, I know the reason why nobody bought it.

It's a shame, but those Broadwell SKUs with the eDRAM had pretty amazing IPC, even if they clocked low.
Though with a huge chunk of siilicon like crystalwell to gain some 10% IPC it really wasn't worth it from a financial standpoint for Intel

Photoshop as a cpu benchmark is pretty retarded. Motherboard and ram are very significant for photoshop every day use. Mostly the speed of ram access, even disk speed if caching.
>ram
>process with cpu
>back to ram
>maybe some stuff goes back to disk too
>repeat

Should use flstudio or similar DAW with lots of VSTi and vst. That is on the fly cpu processing. It doesn't attempt to store the output in ram too. Photoshop is a stupid cpu benchmark.

friend. why dont you post newer benchmarks with updates bios and higher clocked RAM?

You are forced, if you have a job, to use photoshop as it's the only way to guarantee compatibility.

You're not, PS CC 2015 isn't even compatible with old plugins, most CS2 stuff doesn't work at all and PSD has always been a clusterfuck that has changes that break stuff every new version

Oh lord.

Now work on Photoshop while processing a batch of images and at the same time converting a video.

This is would be a better test.

Good share.

I got more but it's mostly even older shit, atoms, and ethernet controllers

Honestly people are on this board are so young, Intel has had so much dangerous errata, far more than AMD it's not even funny.

Intel also has much more R&D fuckups.

>Pentium
>for Photoshop
Are you literally stupid?

It's getting better.

danluu.com/cpu-bugs/

Intel literally firing validation teams because it couldn't keep up with ARM's release cadence
Now that Zen is breathing down their datacenter neck they're twice the shit

Perfectly explains the skylake , Broadwell-E and Atom fuckups.
Actually calling the last two fuckups would be an understatement

>ethernet controllers
sounds interesting honestly

>adobe not only makes convoluted bloated software, they don't even multithread it

Consider a i3 for PS.

did this years Photoshop get 50% slower than last years Photoshop requiring a new cpu to get the same performance?
