Funnily enough, that's how much you are going to pay monthly to feed electricity to this.

I live in an apartment and have electricity free.

Want to guess how much of 80$ worth of electricity will end up being heat and sound?

Heres the description. I know the case looks old with the floppy drive, but the motherboard supports up to raid 10 and also I have some drives around so it won't cost me more than $80

The CPU is core 2 duo based trash.

I won't be running it as a serous server but as a nas so it should suffice.

My Celeron G1820T I bought for 40€ new has twice the performance of this piece of shit that doesn't even support ECC.

Too late OP I bought it better luck next time faggot.

Good luck Idiot its 5:50AM and that person has probably not yet seen my email not yours to "if you even found it"

ur a faget if you don't connect the floppy drive.

What's the use for it tho ?

I SPENT 10mins LOOKING FOR THIS SUCK MY DICK

Someone buy this quick.

Well none of you where helpfull at all!

1.4MB of porn

JUST BUY IT MAN

80 bucks is a good deal.

it's $80 now but you'll spend a lot of money on electricity over the years to run it. You can calculate the difference on your own using websites, google it. You're better off with a cheap drive case and a cheap low-power build nowadays IMO.

I understand that these servers take alot of power but I live in an apartment with free electricity so I am clear with that.

I hope you also understand that you have to have AC in the room this trash is going to be running in. And that your neighbors understand that you have a shitty old server, not that you are testing military jet engines.

if you use 6x the normal usage you won't have free electricity for long, the landlord will massively increase your rent and do everything they can to evict you

>y-you're still wrong!

g-got him

Yeah, got him, because somebody is going to pay for that electricity. And somebody is going to get their money back one way or another.

Sorry bro I PM'ed the seller 3 hours ago and I said I will pay it for $85.

Yeah don't buy that, they don't make the parts anymore, the shits all proprietary and the processor is ancient.

The HDDs you'll buy are not compatible with that thing.

Like this guy says
Sata 2 and 3 have proper backwards/forwards compatibility but Sata 1 compatibility is often done with a jumper on the harddrive (if they even include sata 1 support anymore)

I have done some more research on the parts. And they weren't worth it. Newegg is selling a Seagate expansion 5tb external hard drive for $180. Its more pricey but it's small and is good for me but the thing is I doubt it has any redundancy. So if it breaks or dies all my data is gone.

Considering how old that chassis is with a floppy drive, it very well may have a SCSI (not SAS) back plane and thus is basically worthless. Also it is missing almost all the fans, you'll spend >$100 replacing them.

I'm interested in building a nas. Can I safely take this guy's advice?

seems legit

no one wants to read your shitty blog and tell you how you're wrong because you're too incompetent to even setup a file server

so? I can put you down as undecided?

It's a proper server. Heat isn't an issue for home use. Noise is. But he probably wasn't planning on keeping it where he can hear it if he's buying an industry server.
Certainly worth considering if you haven't though.

how can you not figure out how to setup a file server

>Heat isn't an issue for home use
It is uses 900+ watts and requires a AC unit in the summer. Its basically a space heater.

>summers are hot
Haha. Sorry, I presumed we weren't Mexicans here.

>windows on a server

The site that I posted has many opinions and recommendations about this or that piece or type of hardware. ecc vs non ecc ram, is it worth it etc. The page is fairly popular. I'm thinking that perhaps someone here is familiar with it and has an opinion. And is able to post something useful. This is what I do when I approach a little project like this, I research a bit. Try and understand plz.

>He doesnt have a high availability file server

Why would I need one?

>computers never reboot for security updates

so?

Do you understand what iSCSI is used for? Do you understand what hyperconverged storage is? Do you understand the implications if the server goes down? I'm guessing no.

he's a windows user, user
he needs all the backup and redundancy he can afford

Yeah, but why do _I_ need one. Do you need your animus with 99.9% availability?

>but why do _I_ need one.
You dont need one because all you do is play vidya.

>99.9% availability
Thats pretty shitty availability. ~50 minutes of downtime per month.

>Zeon

You aren't educated enough to be considering servers

Would be fun to play with but not for 80 bucks. 20 would be my upper limit. Swap out power supply for a quieter one maybe. Just use the case and put different things in it. 80 bucks is too much though.

every time until you fuck off

Right! The color-coordinated front panel wins me.

why are you not selling electricity then?

Like this guy () assumed. That boat anchor is SCSI. U-320/160 to be precise.

One of these, most likely.

they arent that loud. also that is not a 1u server.

only if you have a full rack of servers running at full load

Its free
> bbb-but it's not because I said and I have authority over this matter
