Drawer to hold your Gentoo install CD

make a bracket and add another fan.

- a mounted headphone amp
- small display running htop at all times
- a button labeled "turbo" with a custom script attached to it which you can push for fun or profit, maybe something that controls a drone to bring you coffee
- speakers

I've been thinking about 3D printing a small ant farm or a hotpocket dispenser

Memory card reader. Makes keeping a laptop around as a card reader unnecessary.

Mine is a little compartment, I keep my flash drives and a cable to connect my phone inside it

Thermaltake did a cigarette lighter plus ashtray some time ago, no kidding

floppy disk drive that reads sd cards

dongles for those exist

>keeping a laptop around as a card reader
who the fuck does that?

Bought this three years ago for my desktop. Best thing ever.

Now it's filled with little garbage like Thumbdrives, SD cards ,adapters, small cables etc.

...

+1

my gf would raid it and find my porn collections and ex gfs' pics etc etc

that a 2006 AC unit?

what am I looking at

hardwarezone.com.sg/feature-computex-taipei-2006-part-7/sytrin-and-tagan
>Built as an add-on cooling module to provide consumers with an easy way of adding more cooling power to cool down their desktop computers is the PC AirCon PAC 400. The removable unit occupies just one 5.25 bay and can be easily installed/uninstalled.

I got two of pic related, one in my main desktop and one in my "slave". Now I only have to open my case when I need to rotate a HDD, if I want to make a shallow copy for backups or sharing - or burn in a new HDD I can just slide it in via this.

Has standard SATA connectors on the back, if you stick a 2.5" in a caddy they fit as well.

That's fucking handy

Ive seen ones that have both a 2.5" and 3.5" bay too.

You can fit six 2,5" HDD's into one 5,25" bay? Absolutely sick

There is an 8 bay one too.

I was about to mention the 8-bay one. Problem with the 8-bay is that the user is limited in the drive height.

So you can only fit 7mm drives?

This is quite an interesting thread for once and I have nothing to contribute to it other than a bump

Yep: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994178&cm_re=Icy_dock_8_bay-_-17-994-178-_-Product

It's also fuckshit expensive too. The 6-bay version though that the other dude posted can use 9 and 15mm drives i think.

However, if you have more money than sense, you can drop 12 grand on 4TB Samsung SSDs, cram 8 of them into the 8-bay unit, and have a cool 32TB of solid state storage in one 5.25" bay.

Ebin

>No fan controls
pleb. there are high end fan controllers.

An ant farm sounds like a bad idea unless you're 100% sure it's perfectly sealed. Would be awesome though.

Where'd you get it? I would like one.

Where?

Can you leave the drive off with this and turn it on whenever you want?

Amazon.
Not sure if Sup Forums accepts links but here: amazon.de/Minidiva-Laufwerksschacht-Schublade-Aluminium-Qualitaet/dp/B00LGMJBNI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1490974013&sr=8-2&keywords=5,25 zoll fach

Thanks, I'll translate and put the name into the US site.

Is it good? The reviews look prettu shitty.

Your computer's power management should handle that

I had one of thses for years. It can hold a surprising amount of shit.

hey bros

Just wondered because it has a power button.

Bet you can get it also from the Chinese merchant like Aliexpress, probably for much cheaper.

I has no slides proper slides and gets stuck often when opening. The quality is quite poor, but as far as I know there is no alternative product.

How would you rate the quality?

here
Powerbutton on mine doesn't actually do anything. Not really sure of the usecase - perhaps it needs connecting up to work but I didn't want to use it anyway.

Not him but sometimes does card readers for PC don't work

Well you gotta power it down before ejecting. I assume it will be some kind of acpi soft shutdown

then get it replaced, dipshit

Not cheaper, but friends from burgerland can order here too.

Might as well get it from China, it's probably the same shit. Sucke that the quality is poor, I would have liked a good one.

Yea I wonder what it does.

Aren't they supposed to be hot swappable?

It's a few bucks cheaper, gonna get one whenever I order some shit from China. Thanks bud!

I bought one of these from Newegg.

I use it to store important discs, USB drives, various SD cards/adapters/readers, and self-retracting USB extension cables.

The drive is marketted as hot swappable, but Windows seems to goof it up anyway. I always end up restarting to use it.

Sata switch. It allows you to choose which SATA devices receive power via buttons on the outside of your case. You can effectively dual boot without having to mess with GRUB, just press the button for the OS you want, and boot up.

Pretty neat.

>not using a hypervisor and run both at the same time

I have a eSATA port that I use for backups, and I had to set the specific SATA port to hot-swappable in the BIOS. now i can "safely remove" the eSATA drive in windows

Shit that is cool. You need to turn off the one for the other OS, correct?

Maybe 32TB in RAID 0 is a bad idea. I'd say RAID 0+1 would be smarter. Or RAID 5 maybe.

Do any hypervisors exist that could have one active OS and an inactive one? So like caching one somewhere in storage and swapping to it with a quick keyboard shortcut?

Yea although I am not sure how much you will need to swap drives. Most likely not often, if at all.

>Do any hypervisors exist that could have one active OS and an inactive one? So like caching one somewhere in storage and swapping to it with a quick keyboard shortcut?
All of them?

or you can just have your bios setup to all list bootable drives on start

or just change boot order in bios

well minus the keyboard shortcut

Oh. I'm not really too knowledgeable on hipervisors and thought they didn't have that ability. I'm asking more specifically about one with "a quick keyboard shortcut".

Retards

I only use it a few times a year realistically. But it's only like 20 good boy points and I've spent more than that on things I've used less.

In any good hypervisor, the main OS (the one controlling the hypervisor) will only run if the guest (the OS being run by the hypervisor) tries to access hardware that hasn't been explicitly passed through to it.

If that doesn't make enough sense to you, don't worry. The point is that using a hypervisor should not cause much, if any, performance degradation if you only care about working with one OS at a time.

>type 2 hypervisor
>good

Fair enough, but even type 2 hypervisors can be configured to not cause much of a performance drop in the guest if you set CPU affinity, pass through the GPU, etc.

a tape deck. or a car radio with tape deck

>2017
>not having an 8-track player

Stay poor, pleb.

A tape drive is a pretty good idea, desu: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16840119087

Perfect for archiving all your anime reaction faces and porn on 6TB of encrypted tape

>not using VTL
Tape only becomes effective if you have 100+ of them and a autoloader. And anything old is going to be agonizingly slow.

>Romantic Art Store

That link looks like something that would normally contain a XSS attack. You can cut it off after the first ".html" and it still works perfectly fine, BTW

>all these plebs not knowing how to pimp a 5.25" bay

>Capacity: 9-14 pieces of candy Alps

What kind of fucktard measurement is that.

This post looks like something that would normally contain autism.

Can you hot swap sata drives like you can with usb drives? Im considering buying a new drive to use as a backup that is kept outside of my machine and putting it in with one of these

How much is that in USD?

I have done this in moments of desperation when I can't find my dingle dangle

you must work for a shit company with a server like that. What is that, an M series?

depends on your OS, mobo and drivers.

you might need to update drivers.

true and heil dubs

...

>you must work for a shit company with a server like that
It is one of my personal computers

>What is that, an M series?
SuperMicro 743 1200 watt SuperQuiet, X9DAE motherboard, dual Xeon E5-2660v2, 160GB RAM, Intel X520 NICs, Dual GTX 980s, Areca 1883ix-24 RAID card, 8x 4TB HGST 7K4000 HDDs, 8x Seagate 600 Pro SSDs and a 40" 4K display.

Top kek. Didn't even read that far.

i hope the fans are Delta if you want to remain on this board

Now that's like 25-30 USD

Sanyo Denki, they were about $25/$30 each.

why

Why not

...

And what is wrong with Sanyo Denki fans?

...

>doesnt know about delta

>cant provide a single reason why sanyos are bad
>cant read datasheets
>only has paint memes

pointlessly wasting power and money

>when anime hoarding goes too far

>cant detect memes and sarcasm even when it hits him in the face
>being this autistic

>66 VMs
>anime hoarding

...

so, what do you do with that thing? why would anyone need 66VMs running at once at home?
Is it just to brag about it on Sup Forums? I saw you in another thread bragging with that shit

This guy is basically a meme, always tries to justify the stupidest choices (including being a macfag, on fucking Sup Forums)
At least he cleaned up all the gunk he had on the front of the case
