Old environments make the most productive environmets.
They are not painfully while, they are comfy grey, so less tiresome for eyes. They differ clickable elements from the background, so you don't need to guess if this word a text or a button.

no

If you do this you end up with the current state of Ben's desktop, a miserable pile of rice.

Your nostalgia if you don't reply to this post

But it's not flat enough.

...

>serif font
Why? The original versions didn't use it, and it looks bad.

...

Linux?

your mother cries at night.

no... windows 7

How did you change Windows flag?

change shellbrd.dll

...

Care to share old collected icons?

Just download a copy of Windows 95
The icons are in shell32.dll and explorer.exe

PLS STAHP AND DELET

Yo that's Massimo d'Alema, he's a communist.
Programming linux is programming communism, then you're right.

GOD DAMN I miss bitmap fonts. Fucking shit we have today is sooo blurry. I want ultra crisp pixels, FFS.

Why not simply upload the dll for him?
No reason to download Windows 95, installa virtual machine, install the OS only for a file you have ready.

Turn off Cleartype

gotta try changing window border colors to actual colors from the IBM logo

Half lazy half really like this way, had windows 98 for like a year when I was really young, but no internet, so I explored everything in the control panel etc...

where should i upload them?

Not the person requesting the file, but the one asking nicely for him.

I've been using nya.is/ since pomf got so slow in the end.

Example file I just uploaded so you can see for yourself if it's a fast enough service.

It have audio, not super loud but just so you're prepared.

>maid dragon
kys degenerate yuri loving kyoani nigger

dropfile.to/

Right, but fonts designed to be used with anti-aliasing and hinting look like complete fucking SHIT with that turned off. You need actual bitmap fonts -- fonts designed ONLY for LCDs and exact pixels, to have something that doesn't look like trash.

name one thing you can do faster with such an outdated ui
>protip: you can't

u.nya.is/ssathw.dll
u.nya.is/svgcly.ex_

(renamed explorer.exe to explorer.ex_)

Quoting so he sees when he comes back.

Just drag and drop?

Not about speed, cli is for speed.

Save us the hassle and post the modded file plz

Haiku/BeOS is the best

the files I uploaded are for extracting icons from them to use wherever you want.

if you mean the modified windows 7 shellbrd.dll that has the windows 95 start button icon then here it is:
u.nya.is/iespms.dll

why are you using this meme website

somebody suggested it.
seems simple enough

Simple and slow. 35-40kbps here

Because it's easy to use, is fast, is simple and doesn't require an account.

these are very small files

Are you a pedophile because macOS?

dropfile.to
uploadfiles.io

Don't justify being dial-up tier

Hint: To make it easier in the future, zip/7z the files and we won't have to use the shit Google call ReCatchpa.

Poor you.
I get around 9-12MB/s, took me like 6 seconds for this image.
u.nya.is/zkeyzd.jpg

uploadfiles.io
Had a nice size limit and also good upload speed.
I tested a 300MB zip file and it kept uploading at a steady 11MB/s

How do i make my environment look like this

I can't access nya.is
Could you share at dropfile.to/ ?

It's just shit here

Not the person that nicely gave us the files, but here they are.
dropfile.to/GOM12Ss
try this then
dropfile.to/NZvxAFn it is almost 70MB after all.

Awesome, thanks!

yep it has nothing to do with how you haven't even used any of them in the past 15 years or that your baby duck syndrome overtook you and you simply call everything else "unproductive"

fuck off

>258 seconds vs 11 seconds
Really makes you think

>like windows classic theme
>can't use it because Shadowplay refuses to record on anything except the ugly aero themes

Seems your ISP doesn't like nya then.
I get decent speeds to USA from the middle of EU, and download speeds are ~50Mbps at 101ms according to speedtest.

...

>communist
He's center-left moderate. Now go back to the bunga bunga, you fear mongering fascist.

How did he make it look that way?

...

classic theme
microsoft sans serif font
antialiasing off
windows 95 icons

Sad to see so many nice UIs ruined by pretentious anime faggotry in this thread.

Change your background, purge your anime garbage, and grow a pair of balls for that nice UI you've got there.

Sad to see so many nice posts ruined by pretentious faggots on this board.

Use powershell user

Pfft. The only truly productive "old environment" is a BASIC command prompt.

Where did you get the icon pack?

That looks pretty cool.

what about MacType?
maybe it is just the shitty Windows font rendering

But user fonts need to look rounded and pretty so that they match my rounded and pretty UI!

How did you change the volume button to a classic one?

Well, fuck pretty and rounded UIs.

that might have worked 10 years ago, but you can't fool me now
commercial os's are now all flat, solid-colour, and with straight edges, only the fonts have AA

But user, it's all one system on top of another, so we have systems for bitmap under systems for round under systems for square.

Welcome to the bullshittery of modern computing.

Accidentally deleted my VM that had it so I'm gonna remake my Windows 98 GNU/Linux theme. Will post if thread is still up.

Pretty much everything wrong with modern computing comes down to things being made more complicated than they need to be.

The icons are especially nice. If I remember correctly, they were designed by Susan Kare.

What more I like about Haiku, icons are vector.
They are great both in small and large resolutions.

Take me back.

...I say as if I was ever there...

I mean, just stick up a bitmap font and say "that's it. One size. Fuck you. Get to work."

>start bar
I never knew that ricing had roots in those years.

what ever makes you happy.
I respect you more if you chose somthing that you like instead of going with the last meme spyware botnet flat design

What I don't get is how weird people get about "choice" with computers.

It's all "You can have any colour as long as its black" level of choice a lot of the time.

I'm not saying we should go back to the bad old days of DOS and BASIC, but a middle ground would be nice. A system where the choices were one that affected the running of the actual system and not merely cosmetic choices. Linux can do this, but Linux is pretty much just a toy rather than the actual concept that governs the industry.

>A system where the choices were one that affected the running of the actual system and not merely cosmetic choices.
Many people are afraid when program icon is gone from the desktop, and I think such kind of people make the majority of users.
So, retard-prone system is a lot better for companies than a system which you can tune up on your taste.

>linux doesn't count because no one uses it
that's the thing, most people don't /really/ want choice, even just picking their favourite colors and fonts is more than a lot of people care to do

just look at iDevices, pretty much as choice-less as you can make a computer before it simply becomes an appliance

I think a lot of the time people look at "choice" all wrong. Who cares about pretty fonts and shiny-flat shapes, what can I DO with this machine sat in front of me. This is something even Linux is getting into now and I really dislike it. Stop trying to make KDE and GNOME compete visually with Windows and Mac and instead make a great UI that allows you to really dig deep into your system in a clean and simple manner.

Not only that, but I don't get why they push new hardware requirements when they don't profit from the sale of new hardware.

>make a great UI that allows you to really dig deep into your system in a clean and simple manner.
Elaborate?
You can't dig into Linux in a clean and simple manner now?

yea, i do know what you're talking about
thankfully there's still plenty of software for linux that isn't afraid to display all of its options, there are enough people who use linux for this to keep them going
gnome3 is a good example, compared to gnome2, they've opted to "hide away" or outright remove all but the most basic of options, making doing anything but the most basic of operations more complicated
but some people who preferred gnome2 could, and did, decide they'd keep gnome2 going, creating mate. it's one of the nice things(tm) free software allows for, if the original devs change direction, and someone doesn't like it, that someone can fork off and continue in a different direction, you can't do this with non-free software, it's deal with the new one, or deal with obsolete versions

>you can't do this with non-free software, it's deal with the new one, or deal with obsolete versions
(and if you want an example of that, just look at all the windows 10 threads)

There's a program called 'NegativeScreen' which allows you to set your screen to B/W or grey or any number of colour defaults, it's really decent for aiding concentration and it's especially good if you're recovering from porn, because I find that the vibrant colours of porn are actually a major aspect of my addiction at least.

It's hard for me to explain what I mean.

I'm not so much highlighting the possibility but rather the intention of the design.

I know you can really get in with all the text files that manage every part of the OS, but that level of hacking away isn't The Point any more. I'm one of the few people I bet who don't want a "year of the Linux desktop" because for all that has been done to work for that hasn't improved its standing in the world one bit.

How about YaST?

I need to do that. Or just get off the web in general. The web is far too consuming, both in personal time and system resources, and for both its passed the point of diminishing returns for me.

I can recommend a policy for you.

I created three user accounts on Windows - admin, elevated, and user. (elevated and user are just the names, they're both user-level accounts). The admin account is for installing or changing anything major. I've edited my hosts file to ban certain major porn sites, especially the ones I'm habituated to going to. So I can't edit that hosts file on either of the user accounts. I've locked myself out of the admin account, and the password is put away in a physical location which means I have to go to a reasonable effort to get in (meaning if I have a momentary urge for porn, it's frustrated long enough for me to realise it's a bad idea). The 'elevated' account has free access to the internet (except for the sites banned on the hosts list), I use this with negativescreen enabled for when I have to have complete free access to the web for say work or study. The user account is the main account I use, and I've got leechblock addon with firefox imposing an inclusive banlist - so I can only view sites that I need to (I can't even search on google). This has worked well for me.

TUI YaST is proper comfy.

This is a nice thread.

You are nice people.

Not sure what the name of the style is, but I like the "graphical text interface" look.

>Not sure what the name of the style is
Are you talking about your picture?
Your picture is GUI with monospace font.
This picture is TUI.

Windows 7 with Windows 2000 theme is so comfy

I already use Window Maker whenever I'm not on OS X.

So comfy

why windows 10 virtual desktop are less useful and somehow less user friendly than fucking i3-wm.

Anyone know if you can use windowmaker with another window manager?

1. install ubuntu
2. install CDE (manual install, follow the instructions from their wiki)
3. minimal changes to some config files, I suppose

sheeeeeet
