What the hell is this logo meant to represent?

what the hell is this logo meant to represent?

A floppy drive

VHS or watever dey called x---D

i dont see it

A car door, when data used to be saved by driving to your local bank.

the disk part

bait

Floppy disk. We're going to need new icons for things soon. There's no sense in having a save icon be a ZIP disquette when no normal person has saved anything to one for the last 15 years at least.

What would replace it though, a downward arrow on a NAND chip? Even HDD symbols won't make much sense for the average user in less than 10 years when all average general purpose computing devices use SSDs of some kind.

yeah but it's still recognised to be "save"

it's like the stop sign. Everyone knows it means stop even if nobody uses them.

It doesn't have to change. You still see a rotary phone dial used as an icon despite them not being used for twice as long as floppy discs.

The only thing it would be replaced by is the down arrow. Idn, it is pretty universally recognized as save.

it'll be an up arrow tho cus it's all going up to the cloud in the future
the cloud is the future goy don't forget it
your data is safe with us

Ive actually not seen that much at all. What you do tend to see is symbols of a handset.

Soz that was meant for this guy.

OP I am really interested to know whether you are a troll or if you are for real

Icons are like language. We don't have to replace the word "lease" just because it used to mean "gather", or "mortgage" because it comes from the French term for "death pledge". The way voice calling works changes constantly too, but it makes sense for the icon to be the stereotypical and easily recognized rotary phone with a giant, corded receiver because it's what people already recognize, and what came first.

If you changed it to look like an iPhone or something, people five years from now would be laughing at you too, because the fucking holographic headset or whatever people will be using in the future to call people looks completely different. Why do you think we still use folders to illustrate directories, or filmstrips for videos, or sheet notes for music? What the hell would you replace them with, a cloud of binary data?

Nothing to do with ssd replacing hdd. Average millenial doesnt even know what hdd or ssd is let alone floppy.
Saving work is a foreign concept to them. There should just be an autosave and a long undo history

It's the self destruct button.

do u even know what a millenial isn't. hint: you're probably one of them. most millenials should remember floppys.

But user-kun, it's not there any more

A floppy disk

I have office 2016 and don't see that
What version?

Latest Insider Preview for 365

Floppy disk and drives are all obsolete now. Really only use for them now is if you need to load storage controller drivers for Win xp/2k3 os during setup. Thankfully for os afterwards all you need is a usb stick.

what the hell is this logo meant to represent?

Is it really not?

huh

this
dumb frogposting fuck

he's acting tsundere with his buggy insider preview

Save and download will become one in the same

Leave my insider preview alone. It's cute and it works. Along with Mix and Remote

Notice how flow doesn't work at all.
Why do they even implement it if it doesn't work?

Car door. Window on top and handle on the bottom!

Look, a garage upside down, and rainbows.

Looks like a bin, probably used to delete

It wasn't a few years after first using a computer that I realised the save button was a floppy disk
I knew what they were because my dad had some old games on floppy disks, but I had never personally used them

I don't think my brother or cousins have ever seen a floppy disk let alone used them and they know that the icon means save

...

I'll give you that one you cheeky cunt

We should change it to a picture of Jesus Christ
Because Jesus saves

upvoted your comment good sir

>Average millenial doesnt even know what hdd or ssd is let alone floppy.

Every millennial has used a floppy if they touched a PC while young.

The real question is what the hell is thing thing?

It's a save button you fucking retard. Did you just start using Word?

you little shit, that was uncalled for

>he thinks millennials are teenagers

save

It doesn't necessarily need to change just because it's old. People know what it means, don't change what isn't broken. It will just become like the "power" button symbol.

microsoft office will now have stories

That is a floppy disk. It means "save".

Samefag reddit nigger

never thought i would have to prove myself in all these years of being on here, but well

It's quite obviously a hamburger.

I've seen it once, in the LibreOffice.

Those are floppies you retard, ZIP disks are something completely different that were very short lived by comparison to floppies.

Looks like VHS to me xD it's some old fag blu ray or something xD

>implying violating terms of service is a crime

>We're going to need new icons for things soon.
Or we won't and will just roll with the current ones, deprived of their original meaning and reduced to whatever they're used now. So, it won't be a "floppy" icon, but a "save" icon.
Cheers.

What a wuss

People still use clipboards you fucking retard
