So is usb 3.1 dead now that every mobile device is going for usb c ?

So is usb 3.1 dead now that every mobile device is going for usb c ?

>all that matters is mobile
I want gen Y to leave.

I see a future where usb-c and usb 2.0 control the universe.

usb 3.1 was too little too late.

no. the blue connector will keep it relevant

it's not dead it's USB 3.1 gen 2 type C now

A stronger push for wireless would be even better. Cables only make sense for workstations/servers and environments where every bit of security is more important that comfort.

usb c is the connection type
you can have usb 3.1 usb c
thunderbolt 3 are usb 3 type

just like you're mom rite? LOL!

No it's alive inside of USB C

Yea i know that. But i kinda like the current connectors too

uuhmm, USB-C is 3.1 too, ya know?

USB 3.1 and USB C aren't competing standards you fucktard. USB type C is just a connector type as opposed to the USB type A connector in the OP and all the other USB connector types.

What does it have to do with mobile, you stupid fuck?

USB C is just the connector type, 3.1 is the protocol, they aren't competing standards. Go away you dumb shit

Sounds more like gen z to me.

USB-C is 3.1

I still see more devices with 3.0 type A than with 3.1 type C

USB C is USB 3.1
Thunderbolt 3 uses USB C's port
USB 3.0 is dead, replaced with USB 3.1 Gen 1
USB 3.1 is replaced with USB 3.1 Gen2

Why dont you guys just use wifi direct?

I fucking hate USB C.

The USB 3.1 protocol supports 3.1 compliant connectors (meaning they have the correct number of pins for the protocol version 3.1). That type A connector you have pictured is USB 3.1 compliant.. Type C exceeds the number of pins and can support better data rates or more protocols can be passed through it. For instance, a video card or integrated graphics controller may support USB type C delivery of displayport frames. It may "negotiate" a displayport connection with a monitor. This is now doable simply because type C has enough pins to do this.

Explain why without mentioning apple.

It's a piece of shit, weak port. Designed for the thin meme.

Can you expand on this? Do you mean physically weak?

Yes

>type C connector
>usb 1.1
>tfw

but we're born mobile senpai :^)

yeah, micro usb is so much better

>Replaced

You mean renamed lol

Yup

>universal serial bus
>is universal with exactly zero existing cables

>So are cars dead now that every one is taking ubers?
fellow redditor, you need to go back into your containment board

>every one is taking ubers?
Seriously?

>mistaking a transfer/power standard with a plug

USB Type-C = USB 3.1 Gen 2. You can also have a USB Type-A port using the same technology.

Exept in 2017 it's universal with most high-end devices (laptops, phones, motherboards... There is few USB-C motitors atm), and with the time, lower end devices are getting it.

None of my devices have USB C because I haven't upgraded anything in a while, but I know it's going to be an important feature in few years.

wut...........no.

the connector has nothing to do with the protocol you fucking morons

usb-c is a connector
usb 3.1 is a protocol
usb 3.1 protocol is dead thanks to thunderbolt

Still not universal with 99% of the universal serial bus devices in existence.

Inst USB the shape of the connector, while 3.1is speed of the protocol

>someone considered this an acceptable addition to the conversation

Just like USB (type A) when it just became a thing

serious question, how many devices actually have thunderbolt? afaik it's only really on macs and that's about it...

Irrelevant. It was called universal when released because it was intended to be the universal connector. Now it is and their new connector isn't.

Yes but the new connector is (your words not mine) "intended to be the universal connector."

Mac
Razer blades
HP spectre
Thinkpad Carbon
Dell XPS
Asus Transformer 3

On top of my mind.

this. Sup Forums is so fucking retarded it boggles the mind

We already have a universal connector and it works just fine.

dell xps has had it before macs actually
i'd assume lenovo x1 also does since its supposed to compete with them, and hp x360

huh, TIL so many laptop companies are embracing it. I have a mbp and several thinkpads, but none of my thinkpads have it since they're older ones. i think even my T450s which is pretty new doesn't have thunderbolt.

I guess they only put it on more premium product...

Thunderbolt will not win out, sorry to break it to you guys

Yet to see a single USB C device, so I'm gonna have to say nah.

Nintendo Switch for one.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with kiddie consoles.

T450s is considered premium, cost me an arm and a leg but was totally worth it.

a number of android phones
nintendo switch
a number of apple products (rMBP, the regular macbook)
i'm pretty sure there are others

is your post about the fact that you haven't personally seen usb c devices? you would need to qualify that with some statement explaining why your observation matters. like if you work at a tech store or something, where one would expect to see a steady stream of the newest desirable tech shit. otherwise your experience of having not seen usb c devices could be meaningless. i haven't seen any doctors in the past few months. doesn't mean they're all dead. just means i'm pretty healthy and haven't needed one.

what the fuck are you talking about, literally all the new android phones and the new macbooks have it

USB C is here

Literally nobody cares what you're personally familiar with.

They are not the same. USB 3.1 port does not put out the same wattage as the USB C port.

>You can also have a USB Type-A port using the same technology.
I hope Type-A lives on, Type-C is way too thin and brittle.

>TIL
>>>/reddit/

No wonder Sup Forums is so shit.

how can you know TIL is from reddit without being on reddit yourself?

The topic of the thread is
>So is usb 3.1 dead now that every mobile device is going for usb c ?

And some autist (was it you) posts about a fucking weeaboo console from sodokustan that has been sold about 1,5m times.

What the fuck does it have to do with the topic? Flagship phones, the ones that actually have the power to change anything sell up to 20x more devices than that that console.

>SOMEONE CONSIDERED THIS AN ACCEPTABLE ADDITION TO THE CONVERSATION

your*

>USB 3.1 is dead thanks to something that use USB 3.1

fucking kill yourself

flagship mobile devices are adopting usb C though. nobody cares whether you're keeping track of stuff. you're patently an idiot.

because you only shop at garage sales and thrift stores?
