i only install stable releases

Because Hackintosh exists.

Not LTS

Because Mint hasn't released its autism free version of Ubuntu 17.04 yet.

Ryzen.

I don't trust Canonical
Slow and resource intensive compared to other distros
too slow for updates (Rolling Release)

What does it offer me in GNOME that I don't already have?

Nothing.

Stuck on 14.04.4 because amd is lazy shit and will not update fglrx

LTS is a lie.
it's just for the small core repo. (~2k packages)
do
$ ubuntu-support-status
and see how many packages just have the usual 9 months support,
so you should have upgraded to 16.10 months ago and keep upgrading within the support period.

linux battery life

They should still get security updates. My server shows nginx as not supported but it would be bullshit if they would allow nginx run without security patches.

There is none.

gaymen
Photoshop
Corel suite

Because Arch

systemd-resolved
shitty dnsmasq version

Other than those, its nice.

>using fglrx
>2017

Fucking normies

>paying actual money for a new gfx that is supported by open source drivers
fucking freetards

Post legitimately good reasons why you use Ubuntu over Debian

>14.04.4
reached end of life on Aug 2016.

you should never fall for LTSEnablementStacks and stay at 14.04.1 if you want actual long term support.
wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack#Kernel.2FSupport.A14.04.x_Ubuntu_Kernel_Support

but I'm upgrading right now!

ppas

Because I use 16.04 LTS

1. proprietary bits welcome
2. hardened
3. strict/different/longer release cycles
4. ppa
5. bigger mindshare

have you got any idea what you're talking about user or is it your autism?

>install Debian 8
>try to watch some Chinese cartoons

bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=762809
close bug because fixed in newer upstream version, but their stable version is still frozen and broken.

backports/testing/unstable isn't really supported and Debian 9 takes 3 years.
great distro.

I use lubuntu.

Does that count?

Not LTS.

cause I'm a lazy fatass and never update anything that's not broken.

there's no long term support for most packages, see if you are using it as a desktop you prolly have lots of unsupported packages by now.

I am using ubuntu in vmware and I noticed something weird with chrome or vmware.

Every version of ubuntu >14.04 has similar problems with chrome, chrome is not freeing memory after tab is closed, after few days of websites or several vids it will get 100% ram and cause whole system to stop, after awhile it will crash several tabs and ram gets lower, but it require restart to get free more ram.

I have not seen to many open tickets about it on ubuntu so I guess its vmware tools thing.

Reading the patch notes it has almost nothing of note over the previous version, and I didn't use the previous version. Plus my hardware does it's best in Windows 10 Creators Update with game mode and dx12 :D

because i'm using debian

$ ubuntu-support-status
bash: ubuntu-support-status: command not found

Why are you using Chrome? It's malware bundled as a browser.

I didn't know it was released yet desu

I do not know why vids have such shitty quality in firefox on ubuntu in vmware.

For example xhamster 720p vids on firefox looks like 360p.

Back then with flash or now with html5 its still shit.

Similar situation with pornhub and other

No one cares about your desktop. he asked for a reason and you gave one, he didn't ask for a picture of your desktop.

>implying

:^)

...

why the fuck are you watching your trap porn in a VM?

I use vmware as my main os but I find it more comfy to use it from vmware.

It works smooth and the most cpu/gpu heavy task is yt in 1080p.

I use bare linux only on server and router.

I dont need it

I don't need it

I don't need it

Lmao Mint is autism tier distro

Because I prefer Windows 10

I'm happy with 16.04 LTS for now. Maybe I'll update in a few months, or if I hear of some new feature I really want.

I have a Ryzen PC.

every time i want to use ubuntu i remember how shit unity is

and MATE is nothing like GNOME 2.

7.04 for life

I don't like updates every equinox

Because I prefer other operating systems.

>SystemD
>SELinux
>Non-free Blobs

ewww

>Because muh LTS.
That's why

Well done. 16.04 til 18.04

Hse is a nice touch in LTS

Do you enjoy having old and buggy software? LTS is really created for servers, not desktops. Most of desktop packages get into dinosaur state very quickly, and barely anything is backported in reasonable way.

im already using 16.04

Because Budgie Remix user here, no 17 release yet

Who the heck are these guys? I need a quick rundown

how the fuck do i turn off mouse acceleration on this shit

xset m 140/100 0
First setting is sensitivity, second is acceleration

isn't it out today? I have shit to do nigga

a persistent GPS icon that doesn't go away even after you disable location

Oh and btw you need to add this to startup, this change is not permanent

Ubuntu comes with AppArmor not SELinux.
the later is only available as some unloved package w/o any profiles.

Because Kubuntu looks a million times better.

i did this and it didn't do shit and how do i add it to startup?

try
xset m 140/100 1
then. I'm not on ubuntu right now so can't confirm the command I used to use

summoning Sup Forums gestalt crew, sit tight

> 5 min torrent download
> 15 second md5 checksum
> 2 min dd
> 5 min install

really nigga

why are you still using 16.04 that reached end of life months ago?
see

Ok how do i install this shit?
Been trying with # apt-get update, # apt-get update-dis and nothing

Those are all valid reason, you retard. Seems like you are the one who has no idea what he's talking about.
I suggest you pick up a few more myths and memes and then spread them as knowledge to feel smart. Kill yourself.

wiki.ubuntu.com/ZestyZapus/ReleaseNotes#Upgrading_from_Ubuntu_16.10

>> 15 second md5 checksum
LOL MY VIRUS HAS THE SAME MD5 SUM AS 17.04 XD HAHAHAHA

I was away yesterday and right now i dont want to stand up from my Bed.

because debian is just better. i don't care that ubuntu just werks

LTS

>Not using the rolling release version

Kekekekekekekekekeekekekekekek

because i dont know how to setup my Folders, so that just the system itself will be updated in a fresh install.

i dont want to reinstall everything/backup my home folder every 6 months

There is an Upgrade option where it just installs the new packages

Unity is only slightly better than GNOME and GNOME is objectively terrible

Since I'm not a third world pajeet poo in the loo nigger, I can just buy a macbook.

You can do-release-upgrade -d in terminal. Just edit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades to Prompt=normal before running if you're on LTS. Also read the notes in that file to understand why you might have to run the release upgrader twice.

i can't cancel mouse acceleration anymore. i want to go back to 16.04

Antergos comes with a great cinnamon theme, is rolling release, and has the AUR

This. Have been doing this since 12.04, works like a charm every time.

I've installed it but curious what will happen to Unity should I keep it, happen to upgrade one day, or keep it beyond 18.04. I don't want Gnome.

I love Unity

I don't know. I don't know what distro I'll use when I reinstall. Why should I use Ubuntu 17.04?

I'm currently using Fudora 25. I might head back on over to Canonicaland when they poop out 18.04 LTS.

Because
I prefer Windows 10
Question:

I got a dual screen setup
When I have firefox or chromium open on both screens and I'm watching a video on one browser window, scrolling in the other gets extremely sluggish.

Wat do?

Specs:
i7 6700k @4,5GHz
32GB RAM
GTX 1080

I tried noveou and nvidia drivers
same result

Oh and I tried HTML5 and Flash player
same result

Install an actual desktop OS rather than a bastardized server os which is a poor mans clone of an 1970's os.

I tried debian aswell as mint and shit.
also I tried every flavor of ubuntu
Same results everywhere

Canonical
