So what is the difference between i3/i5/i7, what is in the name?

i3 = 2 cores / 4 threads
i5 = 4 cores
i7 = more cores / 2x more threads

$100 increments.

thanks, will accept this, take my Sup Forums gold

Someone find the swole Pokemon comparison chart.

It gets dumb when you include laptop and HEDT chips, these are both i7

i3 = a couple hyperthreaded cores
i5 = more non-hyperthreaded cores
i7 = more hyperthreaded cores

It's whatever intel wants it to be.

Why aren't there i1s? What about i9? Or do only prime numbers count, so it'd have to be an i11?

Im wondering op's question but on a mobile platform. Say if your buying an inspiron or xps, is i7 really worth it over i5? Im pretty convinced the mobile intel family is an utter fucking swizz.

The higher the number the bigger the profit for intel if you buy one.

i3 = city car
i5 = family hatchback
i7 = family saloon

>t. hyundai dealer

Proud i3 user here :~)

nope

>nope

And is that the case basically coz of throttling?

Actually, why it is named i3, i5 and i7 instead of i1, i2 and i3?

i dont get it but here it is

its just marketing. according to intel corp communications manager...

>>The odd-numbers convention makes sense with the possibility that some consumers may confused Core 2 Duo and Quad with 2 and 4.

they just call things i3 i5 i7 as a way of saying good better best. the component manufacturers probably have to pay for the i7 designation. it is in no way scientific.

What's the Mankey supposed to represent?

Is there any other architectural/efficiency differences between i3/i5/i7?

I have a dual core i5 with hyperthreading, so if the only difference between i3 and i5 was the core amount and hyperthreading shouldn't it be an i3?

It's a 4570t by the way.

>using the smiley with the squiggly nose

i3 = broke goyim
i5 = gaymen goyim
i7 = good goyim

for mobile if it ends with U > 2 core 4 thread
if it ends with HQ > 4 core
i3, i5 and i7 are all same chips with different base clocks

everything in tech should be measured by pokeman

Nah on the desktop Pentium and i3 are the same chip, and i7 and i5 are the same chip.
