What do you call these things?

What do you call these things?

Americans

rolli polli ollis

Cousin

Il s'agit d'un insecte étrange, repoussant, envahissant et non civilisé appelé "Turc"

Siira.

Rolly pollys or pillbugs

Azerbaijani

Isopods

cochinillas or bichos bola

dango mushi

Roller roonies

MOKRITSA. Because mokro = wet.

Rollassel

Same. But as kids we called them bronenosets.
Because armor.

Bicho/bichinho da conta

They're the cutest insect after ladybugs

choco-ball

Keldrikakand - Cellarpooper
or Isopods - Kakandilised
Kakandilised - poopers ( like a scientific name)

They're not insects, they're crustaceans.

first post best post.

They are???? N-no way

I used to collect these as a child, my teacher told me off because she thought I was killing them but I just liked to play with them.

Cochinilla.

wood bugs

Really, they are.

potato bug!

Potato bug

rollie pollies

Bicho bolita

rollie pollie

Potato bug

Pill bug

Blackbean Turnywernies

Finally a brit. I knew yours would be my favorite.

Woodlouse

Woodhouse, not sure what everyone else is going on about but they have clearly been mislead.

Cochinitas o bicho de la piedra

>I used to play with them as a kid
>now I'd scream like a little girl if it touched my hand

Why did you become a pussy, Ivan? What went wrong?

socialist

...

Kellerassel

I am like this. Used to play with spiders and all sorts of bugs. Now can't stand being near them.

Turks

Woodlice.

It's true, I had to do a project on them when I was a kid.

Same here. They were easy to catch, found everywhere and not as disgusting as spiders and insects, except the ones with eggs.

t. a*menian

Potato bug or bill bug (I'm actually Canadian)

I don't about screaming like a little girl. That's embarrassing but it's better to be cautious of contact with insects. Kids are stupid, they touch everything. If it's an unfamiliar bug it might be poisonous or venomous and familiar bugs you know are harmless might be carrying disease and parasites.

Ötökkä

Armadillo spiders.

Lol i stopped being afraid of common "daddy longlegs" only few years ago and started play with them.

Rooty tooties

albanesi

daddy longlegs are still cool, I like them because I remember watching a documentary about them as a child and they only eat moss or something like that. Which made them less scary than spiders.

daddy long legs are alright, and I'm okay with most insects but big spiders creep me out, fucking hate them.

?

>daddy long legs
brits have the dumbest names for everything

Benchbiters

Ja, das ist ein Ötökkä

Cochinilla

Thanks for enlightening me.

They're super cute. I used to play with them all the time when I was little and I sometimes flip them back on their feet if I see them struggling upside down.

Was machst du denn hier Finnland?

You're welcome. Are you a grill.

first post best post

We called them Senokosets = harvestmen or кocинoжкa = mowleg.

Ja.

H-how did you get to that conclusion though.

this

rolly poelys

The way you talk. It was 50/50, a grill or a faggot.

Wood louse because I'm cultured.

Everyone else says "gogos" or "gogomanetjie" (pronounce it as you would a Dutch word)

Doesn't seem we're the only ones that call them that

What do yanks call them?

He was just using the english name for them.

tatu-bola

Brazilian things always sound funny. Papakakatoto.

Oh, you have a point.

What do rolli pollis eat btw I've always wondered

Yes that's my point, it seems Russians use the British term for it rather than whatever the American term for it is.

Ah ok, it is because British English > American English.

pissenbedden, literally translated piss beds

They eat dead leafs and plant life.

>The woodlouse is a herbivorous animal and therefore only eats organic plant matter. The woodlouse rarely eats live plants and feeds on the decaying leaf and plant matter found on the forest floor such as leaves, rotting wood and fruits that fall from the trees above.

It's because most animal names come from native Indian languages like tuppi-guarani

Jaguatirica is one of my favourite Brazilian animal names. It sounds nice and I think it goes well with the animal.

Don't we call them daddy long legs too?

no love for millipedes?

>Was machst du denn hier Finnland?
Holiday. I like spending time here.

cheers mate.

>piss beds

Aah, you Dutch never seize to amaze me.

Thank you. They're like nature's little vacuum cleaners. Cute.

that's a british thing? what do you call them?

But they are cuter than Albozergs

Tatu is indeed from tupi, and bola is just ball.
It's also this mammal's name, we also call the crustacean tatu (or tatuzinhos) because it looks like one.

I've always called them Granddaddy Longleggeds.

t. Southerner

...

How common are these weird animals in Brazil? Do you have to go out to the more wilderness areas to find them?

Mokritsa. From the word 'mokrij' which means 'wet'.

taught in schools.

It's hard to believe this harmless looking animal causes leprosy.

Went to Nevada and killed shitloads of those fuckers last summer. Got paid for it, too.

Apparently they're very disease-ridden.

You can only see them in rural areas basically.

I don't remember the last time I've seen one, it was probably at the zoo when I was a kid.

Yes, I used to live in Brazil.

Tatus are adorable, although pangolins are even more. It's a shame they're both being hunted so much.

They are relatively rare. I mean, it's not hard to find them in the wilderness, but you won't see them anywhere near a town with over 100,000 inhabitants.

THAT is a tatu-bola. OP's picture is a tatuzinho de jardim.

I don't know what the english word is for being able to not pee in your bed but in the old days they were believed to help with that

Obrigada.

W-what would you do? Throw a couple of them on the sheets so kids would stop peeing the bed? Put them in a jar next to the bed???
