"Digić" - Italian (from their verb "digo", which is probably their third most used word) "Čedo" - Serb (means "child/infant". Name "Čedomir" also exists among Serbs). There is also "Četnik" (from the monarchist movement in WWII) but "Čedo" has replaced it as a politically acceptable term. "Balija" - Bosnian Muslim (from Turkish or Arabic "bali". Forgot meaning) "Žabar" - Frenchman (means "Frogman")

Ählämi is a slur used from Middle easterners in general. Many of the expressions used from other nationalities are now archaic, like juutti for Dane, or sakemanni for German. Most of the new phrases are now just shortenings or mutations from the official ones, like kinukki for Chinese or japsi for Japanese.

Dylan Young
Franchute is not that bad.
"Gabacho" from Catalan "Gavatx" (itself from one of the Occitan dialects, I do not remember which one) has worse implications. It comes from the immigration waves of Occitans that we had in Catalonia. Most people nowadays continue to use the word but do not know the original meaning, which was something like "gross peasant".
>French: lyagushatniki Frogmen >Americans: pindosy Derives from the ukrainian/south-russianname of greeks, if I'm not mistaken. Cannot say how has it come to the modern meaning. >Ukrainians: hohly Because of their traditional male haircut. Belorussians: bul'bashy >Bul'ba means potato in Belorussian >Finns: chuhnya Something pretty old, stretching back to the Novgorod Republic. >Italians: makaronniki Pastamen >Germans: fascists Seems clear
The origin of the rest is unclear to me.

Well, we allowed that immigration, after all.
But immigration from poorer countries will always raise some eyebrows.
Nowadays most people use "gavatx" for frenchs in general with no specific bad thoughts about Occitans. In fact, some of us are aware of our cultural and historical ties and feel sympathy for Occitan people.
Well, I'm sorry but I doubt that. I don't have specific numbers (nobody really has), but you probably doubled the population here. Of course there was a lot less people that today, in Catalonia. But proportion is what probably matters here...
Carter Long
Do you really call us "mongrels"?
