Avoid the T440. Starting from that model, T4XX models use ULVs. Instead, opt for the p of each generation (except T450, which had none).
So the progression goes T400 -> T410 -> T420 -> T430 -> T440p -> T460p -> T470p
Tyler Ward
I have a T470 and I have to justify my purchase by shitposting other people into buying it so they can go through buyers remorse with me. Fucking help.
I meant T440p. Should have checked before I hit enter.
Samuel Morris
It's okay. I have a P50s, but instead of shitposting I bought a T430 and am selling my P50s once Lenovo sends it back fixed and refurbished.
Kevin Butler
Found a t400 on let go for 50$ with windows 10, Should I go for it ?
Michael Rodriguez
I've heard that you need hardware to remove the WiFi whitelist on the Xxx0 starting from Xx30. What hardware is it?
Jose Gutierrez
T440p has the following upgrades:
- Shit Touchpad to Good Touchpad - CPU, up to MX models. - 100Wh Battery with the 9-cell
You're stuck with the new keyboard if that matters, and no ThinkLight. WLAN cards can be installed by downgrading the BIOS between 2.32 - 2.36. A bug disables the whitelist in those versions.
Daniel Miller
SPI Flasher with a solderless clip. This is only on the xx30. They removed it in xx50 and xx40 BIOSes have a bug that ignores the whitelist.
Connor Martinez
err, to be more specific, only the xx30 requires hardware. The others have software flashes or other workarounds.
Nolan Fisher
Is it dangerous? I read on the last thread that it could fry your beloved ThinkPad, and if that's true then it's now that worth it...
Grayson Howard
Ignore the shill, he's been trolling ThinkPad enthusiasts all day.
It's possible to fry it, yes, but not by chance. You have to fuck up flashing it by being negligent.
Grayson Anderson
T470 is the best thinkpad since the T400, sturdy build, long battery life, responsive keyboard, the only downside is color reproduction
Gavin Foster
Ok, so, what's the process and required materials?
I'm getting a T530 next week (i5 3210M, 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD) and I might use this later on.
Jose Richardson
The T470 has nothing to do with the T400. There's no equivalent to it before the T440. Unless you mean the T470p, in which case, how is it any different from the T440p?
Jacob Gray
Anybody who doesn't have a T470 in the current year is an idiot. It's the perfect laptop in every way
I think this should probably be in the stupid question thread, fell free to call me on this.
So my thinkpad's battery is dying and: a) Can I replace a battery with different Part Number for the same model?
b) What I can do to continue using the battery, It can hold about one hour, and there is outlets almost anywhere I go.
Christian James
>walmart black friday looking laptop no thanks user

Recommended WLAN cards for the T420/T430?
Dylan Smith
I need help. I cannot find an answer anywhere
I bought a Lenovo Yoga S1 for $50 and the only thing that needed to be replaced was the video cable
got it replaced and I put in the battery and HDD and I plug in the AC and light blinks 3 times
I unplugged the CMOS battery and plugged in power (without the laptop battery it blinked 3 times, then the keyboard illuminated, and there is an orange light on one key red light on thinkpad logo and green light on another key.
I plugged in HDD when this occured and HDD spins on, I tried to turn on the laptop and it simply wont turn on, CPU fan wont spin etc.
Im at a fucking loss
1. CMOS unplugged, battery unplugged, AC power plugged in - blinks 3 times then thinkpad light stays on red, green light turns on and ornage light turns on and PC runs but no display, HDD is spinning and CPU fan does not spin even though its all plugged in and getting really warm really fast
2. I push emergency reset button plug in CMOS and then it blinks 3 times then the keyboard illuminates once, fades out, then the same green/red/orange lights stay on and i have to push emergency reset button because its "on" but is warm and CPU fan doesnt spin
this is some bullshit
Nathaniel Reyes
Sounds like it may be a faulty board or at least something is wrong at component level

Thoughts on the X1 Carbon? Thinking of getting i7-4600U / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD
Colton Lewis
>4600U lmao I can't wait for someone on /tpg/ to buy a 2nd gen X1 without seeing the keyboard.
Jaxon Baker
Yeah, not sure fan spins right away when the lights turn on
It sometimes reach BIOS but its not showing a backlight and fn + backlight key doesnt do anything. Maybe its some sensor that activates backlight not functioning correctly?
also everytime i plug in a battery and plug in AC power it blinks 3 times and doesnt power but when I take out battery, take out cmos, plug in AC power, then plug in cmos, put in AC power it works without the battery
in all this, the power button doesnt work
should I say fuck it and send it to some laptop technician and get a quote on what is wrong with it or just put it to the side
Joshua Ross
what's wrong with having the latest hot feature in the 2016 retina macbook pro at a mere fraction of the price?
James Perez
yeah you haven't seen it. that adaptive keyboard isn't nearly the worst thing

Considering nothing but processing power improves between *20/*30, this opinion is reserved for gamer faggots. Get a job.
Lucas Jackson
What are you on about? There's nothing wrong with a *20, he's just stating it's not better than a *30.
Ayden White
My t410's left speaker stopped working. What can I do to correct this?

What should I be expecting from a Z60m?
Isaac Ward
bought an ips panel for x230
and there are two tiny scratches a few mm in length which you can see on solid colour backgrounds, is it worth making a video demonstrating it and complaining to the seller?
Mason Robinson
What's a good upgrade from a x220 and is priced about the same?
Brayden Jenkins
You should actually read the review on notebookcheck instead of believing the anons on this board you porch ape
Camden Reyes
>You should actually read the review on notebookcheck
>The small cooling fan in our test unit starts running under the smallest load, but at least it is off when the device is idle. In that respect, the X270 is one of the more annoying devices because the fan runs so often - probably because of its small size. In comparison to other laptops with U CPUs, the cooling fan is almost overpoweringly loud under maximum load.
okay now what?
you fucking retard.
Christian Perry
not much
Matthew Carter
Two questions.
1. Every source I've consulted gives conflicting information. Can I, or can I not, flash bios from software on an X220? A proper guide would be fantastic.
2. Should I limit how much the battery can get charged or something like that? Will it improve its lifetime or is it a meme? Is it even worth bothering if I'm using a stock from whenever my 220 was made that gives me like 4-5 hours on low screen brightness?
Blake Garcia
1. Why bother, the cpu is soldered 2. install gentoo
>Will it improve its lifetime ofcourse, 60-80 are good thresholds.
Levi Howard
My first Thinkpad, a t420 will arrive tomorrow
Share your first Thinkpad stories, thinkfriends.

I just bought a t60p without a hdd. What are some upgrades you suggest i make?
Jack Adams
A 1tb 7200rpm HDD, and if it allows it, a 120 and up GB mSATA SSD
Kevin Nelson
Bought a T420 last year. Used it everyday since.
Probably upgrading to a T440p just for a better screen, but nothing beats it as a laptop.
James Taylor
I used to have an Acer laptop
Now I have this
It keeps expanding
Wyatt Nelson
I got the t60p without a hdd. 1. Can i install 3.5 inch hdds in it? 2. What other upgrades should i put in? 3. Can it run modern linux ie debian jessie.
Brandon Howard
Got a Thinkpad T400 today for free. Everything seems to be fine in terms of booting up, but the LCD backlight seems to be broken and the screen won't light up at all.
Any thoughts on what I could/should do with this?
Austin Harris
Should i upgrade ram at all?
Zachary Smith
This is actually really cool
Thomas Russell
Which supplier makes the best xx20 series keyboards? I know that there's 3 suppliers for Lenovo's keyboards; Chicony, ALPS and NBM. Which one of them is the best and what's their specific FRU code?
Jackson Richardson
It takes standard 2.5" laptop drives. Which T60p model do you have? If it's 15" 4:3 (square screen, ~1 inch keyboard bezel), you can get a sacrificial 14" 4:3 T61 and use it to assemble T601F bestpad.
Question: can I replace the 1366x768 screen that comes with the laptop with a 1920x1080 screen from laptopscreen.com?
Thanks!

i have a lower-end t60 (t2400, 1024x768 xga) and i've maxed out the ram, bought an ssd and a t7200 i'm about to swap out. is it worth it to put in a t61 mobo and upgrade to sxga+ as well or should i just look for a 4:3 t61?
Gabriel Ross

traded my t420 for an x220t like two years ago
x220t has terrible screen burn in and it makes me afraid to use it because I don't want gay porn shadow stuck on everything
wish I had my t420 back sigh
I mean the screen is nice and sharp and all but yeah you can't have the same shit open for too long or it gets stuck
Angel Russell
Anyone have expeience using an x230t? Just bought one used. i5, 8gb, 120gb SSD for 270. Should be here by Monday.
Brody Taylor

you may need to replace the DP cable. Try calling lelnovo sales and ask if they can make a special build. (I never said it would be cheap)
Aiden Torres
>110% how's that possible?
Easton Jackson
Are models like the X220 and X230 still new enough to be worth buying? Is there any other model worth looking at in the ultraportable category? I don't want to spend more than €250 if I can help it.
James Powell
what distro should i install on my x220?
Connor Miller
Depends on what you use it for. 4GB is sufficient for most average use (Office, light gaming, web browsing, video playback at 720p maybe), but if possible, do upgrade it. It helps you on the long run.
Hunter Reyes
Welp, looks like I don't know shit about the T60p. Seems like 4GB is the max size but it's still good and you find DDR2 for cheap change in eBay or your local selling sites.
Even so, it would seem that the max you can get out of it is 3GB, but given you chose a T60p you should be fine.
You plan to run loonix, right?
Carson Ortiz
Yeah. I do. Will the t60p support modern linux?
Easton Cook
Given the max amount of RAM, you could try to downgrade to 32bit, but try 64bit first and then 32bit so you can tell if there's a noticeable difference in performance.
Also, what distro/flavor? Ubuntu is entry-level, but if you're experienced you might like Debian or Gentoo (unironically) if you ever get it to install and run.
Jace Clark
Alright, and i am also wondering, how difficult is it to possibly make th t601f instead of vanilla? And would it be worth it?
Connor Bennett
Take it apart, replace the speaker. If it's anything like a T430, it should be pretty easy once you find a replacement.
Samuel Moore
Where could I find speakers? Opening it up isn't a problem for me, but I'm not sure where I could find replacement speakers. I could probably nigger rig something together but I'm not too sure how well it work work.
Camden Reyes
Search on eBay for either speakers or a broken down T410 with at least one working speaker. Then you use it to fix your T410
Joshua Ward
what do you mean where? at least ask how does one find the part number of the speakers first.
i think once you at least google the part number, ebay MIGHT just show up as one of the links.
i swear, you mother fuckers in these threads are as bright as a fucking black hole
Jaxon Lewis
yes, both are still good. consider that the base i5-2520m in an x220 ($150ish) is still 20% faster than a 2016 macbook ($1300).
as for x220 vs x230, they're both fairly comparable. just get whatever's cheapest on ebay that day unless you just gotta have whatever minute differentiating feature between the two which the dorks on here keep endlessly slapfighting about.
only other real option in this size and price range is the hp 2560p or 2570p. some neat features over the x2x0s in that they have socketed cpus and dvd drives that can be replaced with disk bays like larger thinkpads, but you're stuck with a shit tn panel with no aftermarket ips upgrades at all
Angel Wright
I'd buy the T61 since it's the easy and cheap solution. Frankenpad fiends would disagree.
Juan Turner
Speaking of which, not that user, but redpill me on the Ultrabay HDD stuff. Do I get a cover to hold the HDD in place from eBay?
Elijah Gonzalez
you cant fucking google it or what? >redpill youre a fucking cunt
Hudson Campbell
u buy ultrabay hdd caddy and then u stick hard drive in it
then u pull the dvd drive out of the ultrabay and stick it the hard drive caddy instead
Carson Campbell
Don't project on me, you cuck Thanks, although I'm not sure if the T530 can handle 4 drives at the same time (2 regular HDDs, 1 mSATA and the one in the Ultrabay)
Camden Gutierrez
then quit asking people to do something for you, when you can fucking do it yourself, faggot
Robert Lopez
Thinking about getting the p51 when it comes out. I want the quad core i7 for video and music production. Any thoughts? Currently running a t430, which is somewhat limiting - looking for future proof

How long do they typically take to arrive? It says itll ship May 8th and get here May 15th, but could it arrive sooner? Or get delayed?
