Hard Drive 100% use 0% transfer

Hey Sup Forums I have a weird problem with my western digital drive. I use Windows 10.

When I move files to it, after a minute or two it freezes. The hard drive use stays at 100% but the transfer rate goes to 0 b/s (checked with task manager).

What I have done
>ran HD lifeguard test from WD's site, it passed BOTH extended and quick test without faulty sectors.
>ran another check from test disk and it passed it.
>IT DID NOT FREEZE DURING THESE.

>Formatted it with NTFS+default allocation size+quick format

>I use Windows 10
found your problem

chipset or ahci driver?

also turn off all power management including rapid storage tech garbage.

I removed RST and tried again and tilts the same.
>Chipset or AHCI driver.
Fuck me if I will have to try and check two drivers older versions simultaneously

Looks like this is a pretty big issue when I google.

FYI it's 3.5 sata hard-drive on a generic dock station connected to USB 3.0

It looks like if I try to copy many files or large files it halts for sure.

With less than 6 gig per copy, 1-2 files, no problem.

Disk was partitioned and formatted with Windows' own tool fwiw.

Yup I think I can confirm.
1 file at time, no matter the size = ok.
put more files, exceed 10gb size limit= screeching autism halt

I had some old drivers, and I updated them, but no help.

CrystalDisk says it's in good health..

>CrystalDisk says it's in good health..
Yeah, and your mother said you aren't a faggot but we all know that's not true.

Is the disk almost completely full, perhaps?

It's almost completely empty.

Old drive?

2015 at worst. It is a 6tb WD Red.

Well fuck.

I think it started to work.

It was badly attached to the dock.

I feel retarded on a level I've never felt before

>FYI it's 3.5 sata hard-drive on a generic dock station connected to USB 3.0

Connect it natively to SATA.

Many USB3 chipsets in use today are buggy as fuck and have various issues; the ones I have sometimes decide to completely lock up every connector if I plug in my 360 pad (but un-freeze if I then plug in a pendrive). I've also heard of many people saying that the controllers just cannot keep up with sustained transfer speeds on USB3 and will freeze or lock.

So that's most likely your problem.

you think that's bad, look at this. I had to return 2 or 3 drives because of this cable, and only found out after rearranging the cabling.

Well, that was just an accident. It just worked for some reason for longer time.

None of the disk checks shows that its broken.. what the fugg.
I wish I could but this was supposed to be my backup files to travel with laptop.

At this point I think its broken but in a way that isnt seen by the programs

and now it works at full speed transferred just 200gb of shit...

there is no consistency when it breaks down to a screeching halt.

it might just be the usb 3.0 driver I guess.

it's your dock being a piece of shit.

Power on Counts
>727
power on hours
>5707

what the fuck ?

? it was not usually mounted only used when needed.
