>Battery life on AMS v2 devices (Sansa Clip v2, Clip+, Clip Zip, and Fuze v2) is approximately doubled
holy shit
Rockbox 3.14 released!
HOOOOOOOLY FUUUUUUUUUUG
congrats
you've just invented the hot water
>tfw my Clip+ is still running 3.9
finally a reason to update
Not quite doubled for me but 26 hours reported now. Can't believe this.
>clip
Hello grandpa. You'll be happy to hear that in the year 2017 we don't need these bulky and clunky ancient machines music playback devices from WW2. Just use that advance alien technology we kids like to call "android smartphones" to play your favorite tunes. I'm sure one of your grandkids has gifted you one already.
oh so you go jogging with your cellphone?
Does your cell phone last 28 hours?
Mine lasts ~50 assuming I'm only shitposting on Sup Forums instead of doing anything intense.
I still own a dedicated mp3 player because I like dedicated hardware, but the point remains. I'm pretty sure I could get 28 hours of audio out of it if I really needed to.
Yay. Now if only my battery hadn't collapsed 5 years ago.
thanks, op. I just updated my clip+
i'm excited to see this "doubled battery life" for myself
>taking a big clunky phone with you on jogs
shiggy
nope, bluetooth headphones
>inb4 "b-buht let sound quality"
we have aptx now
It usually lasts me 2 days before I need to charge it
Almost tempted to pull my Fuze v2 out of the closet to test it out. Assuming it still works.
...
>It usually lasts me 2 days before I need to charge it
So the answer is no then considering you're asleep for probably 14-16 of those two days.
Neat.
>carrying a goy toy
No thanks. I'll stick to my Libreboot X200 and T400 and my Rockbox iPod classic 5th gen, tripnigger.
>charging your headphones
Topkek.
Don't forget your tinfoil hat grandpa. Wouldn't want the goobermint hacking your brain.
>battery life on Clip+ doubled
Shit, really? I was already at 15hours active music playing. So now it's 30? Fucking great!
news like this, the creation of ublock origin and letsencrypt, etc is the good old stuff I come to Sup Forums for. It's about goddamn time we got a meaningful thread here instead of all the stupid kiddy bullshit that's posted here every day.
You do realize that Intel just admitted that AMT is compromised in nearly everything, right? There have been threads about it all day. Freetards are always right, nigger.
I don't use or recommend intel products. :^)
So what do you use? AMD? Because those chips have a management engine too.
If you're using PowerPC or ARM chips of any kind in your main computer, you're a basement dweller.
>approximately doubled
but how
I had a rockboxed ipod nano 2nd gen, shit was cash but upgraded to a sansa clip+ because the nano only had 8gb of space. The my sansa got nigged and forgot about rockbox.
Now that there's a new version after 4 years, I wanna rockbox a new music player but I don't know which one should I get, used sansas are really expensive. From the rockbox supported models, which ones support micro sd cards?
amd has had his own botnet since the ahtlon era too.
there's no escaping the botnet.
I have a brand new clip plus I've never opened because the limit was 8000 songs so if I install rockbox will it be the same?
I still have a sealed clip Zip and a pair of sealed Mee S6 earbuds.
bought for when my shitty chink ipod shuffle knock off and JVC hooked earbuds finally die... Both thsoe fuckers have been soldiering on for the last 4 years!!! Dunno if i'll open the clip zip up ever, since the chink shuffle does everything i need from it.
As much as you can store on the memory.
IPOD NANO 2G NOW STABLE NIGGAAAAAA WOOOOOOOOO
>doubled battery life
Just in time to offset the aging battery in my close to broken clip +
I put a 3000mAh in my Rockboxed 5g video but I'm having problems getting the SSD adapter to work without bootlooping
Anything new for my iriver H140?
worth updating?
Is there an unofficial successor to the clip+ that is getting good rockbox support now that it has been discontinued?
No and never will be.
>loved my rockbox sansa clip 10 years ago
>eventually get "smart phone"
>not great for music but whatever
>get good headphones
>listen to FLAC on google music app
>crackle crackle SPLRREEEGG scratch
>not listening to aphextwin
I think I'm going back to having a dedicated mp3 player as my phone can't play flacs for shit.
There was a chink one that was gaining support and had some documentation
But it apparently didn't get enough traction, unfortunately most Rockbox devs nowadays just use their phones
There is the Fiio M3, it looked promising but I haven't really checked it out for a while. Certainly not as cheap as the Clip+ though.
head-fi.org
Fucking hell, the headphone jack on my clip+ detached from the internal board a week before the first update in millennia happens for it
So fix it
No soldering iron, supergluing will prob fuck something up inside
why not? it's not that hard for the gooks to deliver with hardware and dev costs these days
>unfortunately most Rockbox devs nowadays just use their phones
doesn't that ultimately depreciate rockbox at its core function as a project?
Because all the next players were dead-set on adding fancy screens and color stuff instead of building a decent MP3 player. Then they became media devices that played video. Then smartphones.
It is deprecated; Rockbox is basically gone, I'm surprised it even got this after 4 years
there is still niche demand for having a small cheap device that you can fill with music
it's much cheaper to have a clip with a 128gb micro sd than getting a good phone with the same capacity
not to mention the added bonus of a small profile, clip, and complete set of physical buttons
This is the perfect exercise player, something the ishit shuffle couldn't do
yeah, I suppose there is no sense in dumping more time when the majority of the consumerbase has moved on
>This is the perfect exercise player, something the ishit shuffle couldn't do
this
Cab I but Rockbox on my R Pi?
Looks like they enabled frequency scaling
So what's the best Clip to get anyway?
clip+ or zip
Stopped using my Fuze when I found out about Pandora.
mp3 players basically went the way of VHS tapes
>mp3 players basically went the way of VHS tapes
for you.
Well the same type of fags that think they need record players are the same type of fags that think they need portable music players when phones can serve the same purpose.
Whatever you say, fucking weeaboo trash.
Enjoy downloading all your music and creating shitty playlists you fucking plebe, its 2017 everyone is connected 24/7.
>eed portable music players when phones can serve the same purpose.
not true.
Does Rockbox support any devices still available for purchase and with extendable memory?
I used to have it on my iRiver H320, but that one died a couple years ago.
>nope, bluetooth headphones
you leave your cellphone at home and go jogging with just the headphones..?
if you hear music - are you sure you're not psychotic?
MP3 player circumvents mobile data caps and phone storage. Nobody tries to steal it because it's 2017. Can listen to whatever I want while flying international, and have the battery last me the entire trip if need be.
Very true and with a phone you get Google Play music with basically unlimited storage so you don't need to worry about syncing shit or local storage. You get space for 50k songs for free.
T-mobile zero rates basically all music streaming.
>everybody is connected 24/7
Until your upload shits out or whatever
>using botnet
I actually do use a phone to play my music but come on, streaming sucks
I could maybe even get over the botner part but google music also continuously gave me wrong versions of songs or mixed up albums or artists w/ generic names
nice physical buttons!
they are discontinued.
True I guess not everyone has multiple internet connections.
I would assume most people have cable/fios/dsl and at least HSPA/LTE.
Well my phone automatically connects to my car and I can just say "Ok Google, play Mika" and Google Play Music automatically starts playing.
Deck also supports Pandora controls so I can launch the app, skip songs, thumbs up/down, and switch stations with the dial.
My car is really the only place I listen to music when I'm not home and I've never been in a situation where I couldn't just stream shit.
>128gb for an "exercise player"
>my "workout" playlist consists of maybe 80 songs total
I charted my running for months with and without music.
After 4 months or so my performance had basically leveled out and listening to music typically added 20 seconds per mile to my times and notably reduced the effects of a runners high on mental clarity and elevated mood.
Thats just my personal experience but I don't recommend listening to workout music.
I need it 'cause I'm lazy
I only manage to make myself work out by making my workouts all about enjoying music
I run while listening to music, not the other way around.
Basically this >I only manage to make myself work out by making my workouts all about enjoying music
Nothing like having sharpened senses after cardio and a pump from a good weight training session. Just feels so fucking good.
I stopped running outside and lifting in my room because I got a membership with a 24 hour fitness center so now I have to listen to whatever shitty pop they play :/
wasn't rockbox the thing you put in gogears and such
They all use ingenic soc. There is a jz port but it's not done yet.
The soc is not too well documented (false info and such), and the chinks are not interested in rockbox. Also the issue of various obscure hardware in them.
The port has been going since the FiiO X1 and it's still nowhere near useable.
cause you listen to weabo trash thats growing man tits due to high soy consumption you garbage.
Interesting. So the largest problem is obscure undocumented soc
But with the speed at which hardware is born in China you would think that at least one product comes out to meet the niche of being a dev friendly soc with more durable parts
I guess there's just not enough of a market
I listen to country or pop and don't eat highly processed foods.
Today I had a 2 egg omelette with pepper jack, two roast beef sandwiches with pickles and horseradish, 3 tangelos, a banana, 20oz of greek yogurt, and some focaccia bread with cheddar, jalapenos, and bacon.
I do 30-45 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of strength training and I'm probably healthier than the majority of the disgusting fucks (you included) that shitpost here.
You sound mentally ill, though.
>I-I need to prove myself on an anonymous gook toon board
Go back to facebook
Chinkshit is never dev friendly.
Also they really do all use the same ingenic soc. JZ4760 or X1000 for the newer ones.
Low tier players use ATJ or RK nano which can't run rockbox.
High tier ones run android.
Only exceptions are sony and cowon.
I've been diagnosed with a few mental disorders but I'm not ill.
>disorders
>not ill
you're a qt
Why do smartphone cucks feel the need to come in these threads?
Cuck nature
A mental disorder and a mental illness are different things. One is a behavioral problem and the other is a disease.
For instance, someone with PTSD, general anxiety, or sociopathy vs someone with schizophrenia, autism, or homosexuality.
I see. What made the clip+ good for rockbox devs? Was Sandisk more compliant in documentation compared to generic ingenic soc? I mean, if all these players are running the same soc what is the barrier to development? (I know nothing about this but it's rare knowledge so thanks for sharing)
because my use case is the only use case
**autistic screeching***
T-Mobile has zero coverage in my area
>streaming music
I seriously hope you guys don't do this
AMS (maker of the soc used) gave them a hand with the docs iirc. Maybe more, don't really remember.
Ingenic have docs and sample code (a linux port and an rtos), but the docs have errors.
The real reason though is because there is literally one person working on it which is also working on 2 other ports. There is already a unofficial jz port but it was kinda a copy paste hackjob and the guy doesn't want to maintain it so it can't be accepted into official.
Have they made an option to change the default action on rockbox?
My clip only have one button and I don't want to long press every time I want to choose what song to play.
Makes sense. Thanks for the info
Did they improve filesystem mounting for the Clip+?
I gotta boot into the SanDisk firmware any time I want to add/remove any music files.
>I wanna rockbox a new music player but I don't know which one should I get
Any new Sansa is 50 bucks on average; 25 for 64GB or 50 for 128GB micro-SD. $100 for an obsolete piece of technology is just stupid, especially if your whole purpose is just installing some meme FOSS firmware in it.
Threadly reminder that Clip Zip > Clip+ and it's OLED that's living on borrowed time
You can buy replacement screens for like $7
Where is it only $50? Prices for new have jumped to close to $100
You're right, my bad. The point remains tho.
Woah sweet, I thought this project was abandoned long ago.
It's a shame no currently available sansa players are supported though, I have no where to go when my clip+ dies.
Sansa Clip+ connected via usb seems worse with this new firmware.
The battery life has definitely improved though.
>connected via usb seems worse with this new firmware.
Worse in what way? Slower data transfer?
As in it doesn't work at all.
It'll charge, but that's it.
Windows keeps trying to find mountable volumes until it's unplugged, then the clip+ goes into a panic.
It's fine with the Sansa firmware though.
