unless you want your fridge to overheat, you need to remove the packing material. the heat exchangers are under it.

I'm pretty sure that the condenser coils are behind that. If those stay covered, they'll either overheat or, more likely, the fridge would not cool down properly in order to compensate.

That's not packing material, it's the cover where they inject the insulation foam (there usually is a hole if it's not covered), it's perfectly normal and part of the fridge
