You just bought a new pc/laptop

You just bought a new pc/laptop

What are the first pieces of software you download and why?

Download Ubuntu
Delete amazon bloat
Steam
Tor

what amazon bloat? stop spreading that lie..

Install exherbo

>Delete amazon bloat
Implying its possible without compiling it yourself

>ubuntu
>steam
>tor
Can't you see the logical hole?
You use a known insecure OS with steam botnet and use tor for muh privacy?
Wtf is wrong with you? Can't you realize how dumb this is?

gentoo

do you have a smartphone?
if you do, you are already on the botnet
if you dont, youre living in a cave which is even worse

Reinstall windows to remove any crapware

How is it insecure? I went with it because it's the most supported.

Stellaris

Debian

Archlinux.

Unironically gentoo, then install terminator, vim, sublime 3, mpv, mpd, ncmpcpp, gparted, [cinnamon | mate | openbox | awesomewm]

From experience, just the browser and an ad-blocker, and everything at some later point when I actually need it, which – independent of the OS used – often ends up about only about half of the software

>installing a minimal OS then shitting it up with bloat like terminator and sublime
I sincerely doubt you could install gentoo if you need to install something like gparted for drive management

*+… I used on the previous computer.

The correct answer is Chrome

I like to be 100% sure when it comes to partition management since I fucked up a a year or so ago and lost ~250gb files of various kind. I'm quite good with system administration, but that day left quite an impression on me. And I like sublime because it's the swiss-army-knife of editors, but I only use it to edit bigger projects. Single files are done with vim.
Terminator is in the list because I got comfortable with it. Do you have any recommendations? I want to be able to have a translucent background so I can put it over mpv to play nethack while watching movies.

>download
I already have the latest Debian ISO on my hard drive.

>Insert Debian liveusb
>Install debian
>Install nonfree wifi drivers

>Install nonfree wifi drivers

Homebrew (install a bunch of packages I use all the time)
Photoshop
Xcode
Sketch
LittleSnitch
and I'm GTG

Void Linux
Vim
Geany
Gimp
Ncmpcpp + Mopidy

Not the guy you were asking but I don't have a smartphone and I'm definitely not living in a cave

first unbloat. then an alternative browser.

Reinstall the OS

>doesn't have a smart phone
>goes on a tech board

Drivers, C++ Libraries, CCleaner, XP's Paint, a quick TakeOwnership.reg file, UXTheme and a nice Windows Vista Visual Theme.

-Drivers and Libraries: Optimal performance and avoiding getting errors when I execute X application on my OS.
-CCleaner: Fast and pretty light cleaning of the system and registry entries.
-XP's Paint: I just can't stand the mspaint of Windows 7/8.
-Take Ownership: Mainly to rename the mspaint of Windows 7/8 and have XP's named as "mspaint.exe".
-UXTheme: Custom visual styles.
-Windows Vista Theme: I fell in love for Windows Vista's appearence ever since I saw it, that's enough of a reason for me.

>Chrum
>Winrar
>install pirated adobe programs
>firefox (to shit post while they install)

Arch Anywhere, Xfce and all the other stuff I use, like Firefox and Wire.

>cleaning of the system and registry entries

Debian and whatever the netinstall with choices debian desktop, gnome, sshd, cups apache and base system downloads
after that i guess vim, some gnome extensions, newer firefox, build-essentials

>XFCE

>life of a windows user

I just don't find other DEs comfy.

>Vivaldi
>MPC-HC
>Foobar2k

firefox-esr
zathura
manpages-posix
manpages-posix-dev

i think that's it
why ? i'm pretty sure everyone can figure that out within a second

uBlock Origin, basic security measure.

debian, pale moon then probably ublock, 4chanx and steam

total commander

Install Gentoo

(If used for desktop stuff) Install KDE and my most used programs (Steam, mocp, Konsole, zsh, etc.) from my binhost because why compile again?

(if used as a new server) Install various server programs, set up a chroot binhost again, copy over old server configs, kiss old server goodbye

Continue with life

BONZI BUDDY

Windows 10 comes with everything a person needs.

You sound like my mom. She has a smartphone, can barely use it, with problems she always asks me or my brother. I instinctively know better what to do with her phone than she does (because they are made for idiots to use, but apparently late-middle-aged women are even worse). And don't get started with computers. Completely tech illiterate.
And then she has the gall to call me backwards because I still have a dumbphone because nobody has ever been able to give me one (1) good reason to get a smartphone.

Ubuntu
Steam
Skype
Sublime Text
All of my build tools
All of my extensions for Firefox (ublock origin, tree style tabs, https everywhere...)

>And then she has the gall to call me backwards because I still have a dumbphone because nobody has ever been able to give me one (1) good reason to get a smartphone.
For increased functionality? High speed internet, calculator, numerous useful apps at your finger tips, video calling, etc. Do you use Windows Me?

But you can do all that on your GPD Pocket under real Linux or even Windows if you are into that.

>But you can do all that on your GPD Pocket under real Linux or even Windows if you are into that.
Does it also make phone calls and text messages? If so, what's the difference between that and a smart phone?

For the phone calls and text messages you use your phone.

Well then you're carrying around two devices for the functionality of one, which is retarded.

The Pocket does computing tasks better than a standard smartphone. And a standard phone holds a charge way longer.

Fedora

arch
i3
copy my config over
qutebrowser
everything else as needed

google thinks that this pic is actually from the movie Hackers
I don't think that's the case and I'm still deeply curious

Cry more little faggot

>computing tasks
Such as? What are you computing on-the-go that takes perceivable amounts of time?

>holds a charge
A battery is a battery. If you use a smartphone as you would a standard mobile phone they'll last very closely, both of which far outlast the necessary usage of the regular day away from home. This is also clearly a case of cherry-picking a pro of a standard phone usage and disregarding the cons that come with it.

You really seem like you're just grasping at straws.

7zip
Classic Shell
f.lux
Firefox
Icaros
MPC-HC
Paint.net
Steam
Winamp
Visual Studio

Browsing for example, it doesn't take more time to do on a phone it is just shittier to do.

- Windows 10
- NVIDIA GeForce Experience
- Google Chrome
- Discord desktop app

vim
stumpwm
firefox
mpv
libreoffice
gimp
zathura
mpd/ncmpcpp
f.lux
zsh
rxvt-unicode

Why are a lot of you naming things that come stock with most distros?

Google Chrome because fuck ff/ie

> >holds a charge
> A battery is a battery. If you use a smartphone as you would a standard mobile phone....

Then why not get a standard mobile phone.

>downloading tor on ubuntu
I hope you're not doing anything illegal, cause FBI probally knows everything you're doing.

>Download Ubuntu
>Delete amazon bloat
So, Debian Unstable?

>not using private proxy for casual torrenting
>not using tailsos on flash drive in laptop only connected to local public wifi
ISHYGDDT

Gentoo, of course. You download a Gentoo ISO, you use unetbootin to make a bootable USB, and you install Gentoo.
