Linux is susceptible too

Would all you pompous Linux users please stop blaming Windows and Microsoft for this ransomware incident? Clearly, the NSA is at fault here. And it's not like Linux is immune either.

So quit all the trolling.

It's not a troll. Linux can get it too. Go look up on twitter. Pic related.

Yup, this is legit. A lot of ransomware works under Wine, it's quite funny actually.

What do they mean with free events?

I thought wine was incompatible with everything. Guess I was wrong.

I want this to be the new meme.

Createfile/readfile/writefile are probably the only apis that actually work lmao

Linux apes MS screen style all the time, when they're not trying to copy OSX.

>All this deflect tactics from microsoft un/paid shills is sad, obviously any OS can get virus, a machine cannot magically know what is considered a desired operation and what is not. To be honest i would be more worried about what microsoft pushes on their users on purpose and the fact that this people thinks that "muh secret code is more safe because no one else can audit it, i trust MS blindly". There's no perfect security of course and the key is how security is managed and constantly checked, is like the people that claims a closed source cryptography program is more safe than an open source one (There's no doubt about the why, right?).

Thank you for posting this, what an idiot. What on earth would make you run a browser as root?

Sorry, i mistakenly used the meme arrow.

What an idiot. Who would run a suspicious executable despite multiple warnings?

>Yeah, I'm guilty of running FireFox as root. Shame on me - I should have known better.
Uber kek, this is as stupid as saying that linux sucks at security because it activated ssh and published all the necessary data to access on a forum. Of course anyone will be able to enter.

Maybe if you have Wine, many don't.

The attack only works for Windows.

>not "All of your data of all your users, all your databases and all your Websites are belong to us"

The same idiots that would disable UAC.

wtf, i mildly dislike linux now

True.
Although, running your web browser as root on a linux distro is really some next level stupidity.

I see your point though, you could download a virus from your email, change its permissions, then execute it. I wonder if that becomes more prevalent in the linux world if we would start seeing more virus scanners come into play?

He didn't just run a program though, he ran it using root. That's something nobody does. You would infect a handful of people if your exploit required you to run the browser as root.

>trusting a brony

lol

and linux

only macOS is immune

Doesn't work in ReactOS

wine works in mac osx
applefags btfo

Who cares what OS you are using? Just back up your shit so that if your computer files get encrypted by (((ransomware))) you will at least have your files.

Why the fuck would you do that?

This.

Who cares about all the baiting. It's just an OS. It's not like it's part of a person's identity.

>it would be entirely convincing and looking totally legit otherwise

...

Yes, if you were stupid enough to run the malware in wine, but why the fuck would you do that?
Linux isn't susceptible to the spreading mechanism.

Since when did wine become linux? It's emulating windows, -10/10 bait

Finally, something that works under Wine.

That shit cant even boot on my PC.

Only if you willingfully run the virus yourself.

That would require you to use a browser under wine OR run the program itself

WHY

FFS WINE CAN ONLY USE THE NATIVE WINDOW MANAGER OR REDMOND.

TO GET IT YOU NEED TO RUN A BROWSER UNDER WINE WHICH IS RETARED OR RUN IT MANUALLY WHICH IS EVEN MORE RETARED.

ALSO BTRFS USES STATES AND EXT4 MAKES HIDDEN FILE COPIES EVERY TIME YOU ALTERATE SOMETHING.

it's totally possible to make this for linux, it's not even hard

Right, all you need to find is a remote execution vulnerability on a service which is almost always enabled on all linux systems. Easy!

>No rating in Wine appDB

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>Mail me at "[email protected]" if you have any questions.

>Sadly, a kernel by itself gets you nowhere. To get a working system you
>need a shell, compilers, a library etc. These are separate parts and may

>with linux are GNU software and are under the GNU copyleft. These tools
>aren't in the distribution - ask me (or GNU) for more info.

I am not very in touch with this meme but..

How the fuck you get this ransomware on Windows even?
Is it your typical "normie opening obviously suspicious files" shit?

torrent.exe

>there are nigger cattle on this board that use anything other than templeOS

I WARNED YOU BRO

porn.jpg.exe

So downloading obviously suspicious shit on torrent?

no it's clicking exe

Well okay. Just normies being dumb as usual then

How is this so big though?

Just to be safe I'm uninstalling samba

usb kernel extensions on linux are a joke

inb4 but u need reemot axess

In this exceptional case it was a good old-fashioned remote execution vulnerability instead (over SMB file-sharing protocol). It hit normies who managed to not install the March security updates to close the leaked NSA exploits for over a month, and systems that can't be easily patched by policy (e.g. hospitals) but weren't properly firewalled either.

Just because you can install it in linux dosent mean it:
1 Can locate your files to encrypt
2 Knows how to handle unix dirs
3 As permissions to change your files.
4 Can use the smb exploit to propagate on the network to a linux machine.
5 hell you probably need to set up wine configs for it to even show that screen.

Welp
Maybe I should be installing those updates at least

>tries to troll
>doesn't even bother to photoshop the windows window
SAGE...

Wine automatically sets up its environment on first run, which not only includes a typical C: drive structure created under the Wine prefix, but also mounts for H: (home directory) and Z: (filesystem root). Everything on that list applies, except for point 4 (Samba, if even installed, doesn't feature a vulnerability in that exact same form); but it can still spread to vulnerable Windows machines.

>running firefox as root

Using vimperator to open external commands and being lazy? I almost disabled uac once for firefox.

kek

Nice damage control, winfag. Linux is immune to it. You'd have to install WINE and purposefully infect yourself. To get infected on Windows, you just have to be connected to the internet to get it. This is not comparable. It's like saying knives are a danger to public safety because some retard chose to stab himself to see what would happen. I like this malware because it's keeping winbabies off the internet.

>what is selinux

If this is real, (which I doubt) then wine will soon have a fix and we'll be fine. Not like Microshit who intentionally give NSA exploits to use to snoop on you.

Except it doesn't delete the original files. Sadly always the microcucks got all the malware.

>implying anyone want to copy the current shit on W10
At least OSX have eyecandy while W10 is eyecancer.

If it runs from wine (it does) it works on mac os

>linux
Never ever.

Found the newfag

This "trying to look retarded" thing is not funny
stop it

So what is the KB security update for W7sp1x64 that patches the vulnerability?

>claim to use gnu/linux
>use wine

mad photoshop skills

OKAY how do i disable this focken SMB1 on win7? i couldn't find anything worthy on net. Also installed last MS07-010 update. KB12

Triple sevens of truth.

As long as you install the March/latest updates you are fine, no need to disable SMB1 to be safe unless you really want to.

echo rm -rf --no-preserve-root / > virus.sh
chmod +x virus.sh
sudo ./virus.sh

wtf I thougth leenoox was malware-free???

Resending via 445 thought localnet and extranet, surprisingly some people have opened smb and don't have NAT, it seems

Wtf I ran this and suddenly upgraded to windows 10

Try SMB3 instead

I have a question, what happened during you installing the patch? Was it like a full blown windows update or did it just install the necessary fixes for the exploit and thats it? I want to install it but I don't want it fucking with my pc and other settings.

>Stock Ubuntu fucking 12.04 image
>Windows 8.1 box

try harder

Most don't.(I hope) Wine is for people that just can't let go of windooze. An abomination.

didn't know unity supported Microsoft's window manager :^)
