if you're self studying you should be studying it in an enjoyable manner tb h. like reading and translating stuff instead of doing anki reps

i've made very little progress in learning, i've only done a bit of genki so far after learning kana, i just can't really bring myself to study for some reason even though i feel like i really want to.
I feel the same as you. However, I'm motivated to learn English because shitposting on Sup Forums is one of my pleasures. I'm not still good at reading and writing at all though, but I want to improve my English more and more than ever and have a conversation with people around the world.
Try the cold pool approach. I use to feel the same way but I recognized something one day
If I got started doing Japanese, especially in the morning while I'm full of energy, that motivation would naturally come after about 20 minutes of work.
So I would force yourself to do 20 minutes of work, take a 10 minute break and then continue. You should be much more motivated to continue. Keeping putting in small breaks in order not to drain yourself. However, MAKE SURE not to take a long break unless you think you are done learning. If you do your motivation will drop again.
If thinking about starting Japanese gives you slight anxiety in your stomach than most likely this will solve it. From your description I think this is what you have. To combat this starting anxiety you just need to force yourself to start. It might help to watch or read some basic stuff in Jap first before doing reps as this also helped break that starting anxiety I had.
pills or red bull might also help.

C'est dommage!

>However, MAKE SURE not to take a long break unless you think you are done learning. If you do your motivation will drop again. I think this is what happened desu there was a brief period where I was making a point of studying an hour or two a day but then we started moving and I took a break and never got back to it I've decided to force myself to get my shit together and start studying again once we're done moving I swear I'll do it

Yea. I don't know if you are doing anki or not but ignore the djt guide on this one point. If you have a ton of reviews due, just limit it down to 200-300 and queue up 5-10 new material. When I took a break (for my exams) I fucked up hard. I got intimidated by the idea that I would not remember everything and would need to review and retread stuff I already learned.
What I did is I tacked on a small amount of new learning material to make it feel fresh while reviewing old stuff. It really helped keep me from getting bored to death.
