MBP 2016 refurb or XPS 13

Most Thinkpads are awful in terms of portability which is the whole point of owning a laptop

Macbook so girls won't laugh at you.

Macbook pro 2014/2015.
Even louis rossman himself couldn't say it was a bad Apple product. Avoid the newer models at all costs.

x220 because muh keyboard

it doesn't matter you'll be fine either way
get whichever is cheaper

...

dumb trumpposter

t. permavirgin

thinkpad x201 is my daily driver for college, best $150 I ever spent

Why not both?

X1 carbon weighs less than a macbook
why the fuck would they care?
I can get behind this guy, 2015 was the last good model with all the useful ports
AIDF inbound

Apple is a bad meme.

This mindset will get women laughing at you.

Use what you need to use to complete your work. Focus on your own shit. Make money so you can do more of what you love bigger than you ever have before. Women don't understand means, only the ends.

>macbook pro 2014
-better screen
-backlit keyboard (and it's even non gaymer trash)
-comes pre-installed with a better system that even has a great amount of actually USEFUL software
-can run windows as well as linux
-magnetic charger so even if you trip on your charging cord your notebook doesn't drop on the floor being pulled by it
-lid that doesn't wobble
-macOS has free updates that are non-intrusive

>chinkpad
-useless "resistance" to drops and water that pleases their neckbeard userbase because they are so autistic that they end up getting bullied easily so their notebooks get most of the time fucked up as well
-spergs are not adapted to change so they are still using that retarded clit trackpack on a keyboard that belongs in the 90's lol
-oh everything's replaceable! nevermind the fact that I have to buy extra stuff to replace my default setup so my notebook doesn't end up being shit I'll just pay extra LOL!
oh and by the way:
>implying you will be able to replace the display easily without breaking your shit
-"oh some thinkpad models can actually run macOS"
"oh shit apple just released an update let me upgrade my hackintosh thinkpad"
>doesn't boot
"well, Apple could end support for older macbooks anytime they wanted anyways"
meanwhile the macbook owner sells his machine for a reasonable price that lets him effortlessly buy a new model because Apple hardware pricing ages well.

I can easily haul around my R400 though? I don't understand.

He's asking for a laptop not a facebook machine. Whatever Apple has is done as well by a Chromebook.

t. chinkpadbeard

It's pretty easy to replace a screen though. There's not much in the way if you do it correctly.
Don't tell me you couldn't even replace a measly screen, user.

>I wanna look cool and gay
macbook

>I want a lightweight unix laptop that i don't have to mess with ever
macbook

>I have a bunch of money to blow
either, it doesn't really matter

>I prefer windows and want the people of Sup Forums to respect me but i don't know what i'm doing
new thinkpad

>I like to tinker with computers and dislike osx
older thinkpad

I think Rossman's point is that the products are good but the company is shit.

t. Fanboy
I mean, a computer is a tool, get whatever does the job, stop looking at brands. A Thinkpad and a Macbook are like apples and really expensive oranges, so if youre just going to make some .docs or coding then get a thinkpad.

Why would you do that? just to prove that you're a cheap fuck who thinks spending money on something that you CAN fuck up (thankfully I never had to do that) is worth it? That's pretty much the same problem with Linux as a desktop: it's a timesink that can be easily avoid if you go with windows or macOS (mind you I've been using Debian for a long time).
I kid you not, I've heard many times from friends who work as sysadmins that had apple created a free server version of OSX, WITHOUT a GUI, fully compatible with a set list of hardware that goes beyond their offered products in terms of performance, most of the web would be running on Apple systems.

if you want to thinker with technology just buy a pi/arduino/beableboard and create something interesting than learn C and then mips assembly.

OP wanted my opinion so that's it.

I have a 2016 MBP and I really like it. Got it off Ebay new for about $1250. Really light. Good trackpad. Keyboard's alright. I'd say it's a good school keyboard.

good school laptop

When you're using the word haul for a laptop you've got a problem.

t. Mactoddler

Also, learn pic related and download redquitter and spectacle.
ps: command = winkey

t. kissless virgin :^)

I could eat out every day at some kinda fancy place if I wanted to, doesnt mean it's better. In fact most economically wise people would say youre acting irresponsibly with your finances. And if youre not a complete retard and know your shit, you can get the exact same thing they offer you by doing it yourself.

>falling for the thinkpad meme

get a used or refurbished MBP 2015. it's GOAT.

ThinkPad is fucking shit.

desu if you have the money get a macbook

>getting a laptop with a shite keyboard for school
what the fuck

macrumors posts here

people use Sup Forums to get away from plebbit. go back to your cancerous SJW cesspool of mental hypocrisy.

All three are fine choices. Just pick based on your budget.

I'd pick the thinkpad simply because nobody would fucking steal it because it looks so old.

Did they ever fix the font issues with the X1? I bought the first gen and everything was goddamn unreadable because of the high res display. Nice and impossible to install Linux too. Kinda turned me off to the whole company.

>I'd pick the thinkpad simply because nobody would fucking steal it because it looks so old.
kek'd

let me put it th is way op, do you want a top in wh ich you think, AKA arent getting laid, or do you want a to p in which your MACing on the babes? cuz with one you look like a fucking geek virgin losesr and the other you look like an important chad.

this is college op, if you want to ge tlaid, get the mac.

>oh you're a fucking retard if you can't handle dealing with PCBs and displays!
Have you ever done some soldering? have you ever replaced a broken keyboard on a asus eee pc 4g? because I did, and it was fucking awful, that tiny piece of shit cable would pop off as soon as I was about to close the lid and I won't even mention the hassle of opening it after removing every screw without tearing some cable apart. I AM cautious with my shit, I just don't see the point on something like what I did because I could just throw the keyboard and display on the thrash and connect it to my old 23' display but I went ahead and also used a SD card to mount my debian netinst /home directory and leave the rest on the soldered 4GB SSD (because that piece of shit would crash on ubuntu minimal's installation GUI and manjaro as well. ALL a waste of fucking time, I could've just bough a used netbook but I didn't.

fuck I meant 2015 not 2016 the 2016 is shit get a 2015 refurb

$1250 is a bit steep though don't you think? I mean I'm not saying I wouldn't like one.

What are you studying?

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Soldering wasn't that bad it's just that I hate the smell. I liked building arduino clocks and boats.
You can buy a used 2014 model for under 800$ on amazon and even less on ebay.

Alright, whatever you use is fine I guess. I just dont see the point.

Stop Anonfagging Luke.

idk mate

Damn that Thinkpad actually looks much better.

Surface pro

all these people wasting money on x1 and mbp are retards. you dont even need a laptop for college. desktops are way more productive and theres never a situation youll need a laptop

Macbook Pro

>Protability

>Having to Carry your Laptop around in a Bag

>Not being able to use it While Standing

Thinkpad > MBP

>need to do presentation
>lug tower to classroom

People with shit handwritting prefer to use laptops to write down notes
if you ever go to uni you will know underaged piece of shit

usb into class pc?

stop with the name calling, besides learning latex or whatever for note taking is pointless.

Thats how I do it you nice person

the need for a overpriced computer however is not worth it. dell make some nice $500 machines that are still stylish. Can you even take down notes fast enough with latex? i remember my math 101 class moving so fast we ended up recording the lecture (online recording was audio and slides only). i do use latex for document write up however, as im sure everyone else does

>class pc
Only in more affluent schools.

>Group research
>Everyone schedules a meet at some place that isn't your house
>no laptop
>can't participate

It only becomes overpriced once you start getting into the gayymenn area. If you do need some sort of computation functionality, do not want to be tied to a desk but don't need too much computational power, any Celery laptop or chromebook would do the trick and those things are cheap.

Well OP you haven't told us if you would either spend your free time compiling Gentoo or banging hot chiqs ?

Get desktop for games and other stuff
Get Laptop for work and classes
Problamo solved
The only reason you should get a gayman laptop is if you are moving far away from home into a cramped dorm while attending uni

library? for all my non comp sci thats wgere we met and used pen and paper. foe comp sci stuff we met in the labs or did remote work.

I'm looking to sell my 2015 13inch MBP with 512GB SSD for $700 worth of BTC. I just need to get rid of it.

>pen and paper
I sure do like browsing Science Direct and organizing my bibliographies using my smartphone.
>foe comp sci stuff we met in the labs or did remote work
and water is wet

to each their own i suppose. i always found drafting a pain in the ass on a pc.

>i always found drafting a pain in the ass on a pc
Are you using MS word or something?

>need to continuously check, recheck and cross-reference hundreds of already cited papers
>have to revise and rewrite sentences that are in the middle of an already written paragraph
>need to look up more papers to cite
>need to look at results and other experimental data
I would imagine that pen and paper would be more pain in the ass if you're tasked with writing a research paper that is a few hundred pages long.

Get a cube i35 "thinker", it's a great bang for the buck. Not sure about Linux support though

>ThinkPad
>Macbook
Two memes in a row

i have exactly the thinkpad in the pic
it is the best laptop I have ever had
you can write on the screen
you can use it as a tablet
the SSD is fast as fuck
and it also means business
macbooks these days are literal toys

I forgot:
the keyboard is amazing

Macbook if you can afford. ignore the thinkeme autismos.
>macbook
0.9kg
>x1 carbon
1.4kg

Do you wanna be a nerd or a fag

Rossman is a fucking retard though because he's happy to go along with the literal disregard of human rights with Microsoft.

his problem with Apple is 'they charge too much'

I'm using ThinkPad T460s atm and I'm loving it.
I've been working on a MacBook Pro for about half a year, and I hate the thing.

Objectively speaking, ThinkPad would have better hardware/price relation, better compatibility, and versatility.
Mac would have a better screen (Not because of the retina meme, but because of ThinkPads usually sporting pretty meh screens).
Battery life is largely dependent on the task you'll be performing, but Mac's battery life tends to be worse on the average.

If you're going to use it just for taking notes and browsing porn - go with whatever.
If you're going to use it for work - go for ThinkPad.
If you're comfortable with Mac's, your university teaches you stuff for Macs (design software, for example) - go for Mac.

as if apple cares about your right or privacy

Recommended my GF a ThinkPad 13. She seems happy with it. Battery life should be very good too. Plus the keyboard is exceptional which is good because she is a fast typer. If it went her way she would've bought some bs gold Asus laptop or something

In a laptop I'd recommend MBP 2011,2012, or 2013 due to OS and screen being best for a laptop. MacOS is a great laptop otherwise it's kinda ass.

If you'd want a non MacBook. if portability is the main concern
>The new XPS
>Razer blade (if you want gaymur garbage)
>X1 carbon

Budget options
>x220
>x230 with keyboard replacement
>x240 with touch pad replacement

For big
>W series/Dell precision
>T4xx/T5xx
>Inspiron 7000

It depends on what kinda college experience you want. A good one with lots of sex and friends and networking. Or the/g/ one which is lonely awful but may lead to the development of a billion dollar app if your still have the ambition that it is.

1)Thinkpad x220
2)thinkpad t420
Anything else is garbage

How's the battery life on those things? Do they hold out 6 hours

You'd probably getting a used one, so I can't comment on the battery life.
If you are unsatisfied by it, just replace the stock battery with a new 9 cell one.
That is the beauty of old thinkpads, most parts are replaceable(even CPU in t420, but not in x220)

You'll most likely have to buy a new battery, and if you want an original one it might cost as much as the laptop itself, or you can get a chink battery that is going to maybe work.

depending on what your doing, an x200 or t400 with libreboot and/or an SSD could work great for basic note taking

Depends on the kind of work you'll be doing. What's your major?

That poster is projecting so hard it almost burns

Raspberry Pi with touch screen, usb wifi mouse and keyboard

1250 is expensive. But the actual price from Apple is over $1600 with tax and everything.

>2006-2015

Can we finally put an end to this meme?

I'm having the same dilemma.
Macbook has a great display, runs macOS which I have never used but wouldn't mind trying, and I just found out it is possible to install Linux on them. But Macbooks are very expensive.
Thinkpad, I'd definitely wipe Windows 10 off of it and install a Linux distro, but other than that Sup Forums has been really pissed about new Thinkpads, and old ones are too old at this point.
Maybe I should get a Dell Latitude...

I would suspect that a MacBook is more likely to get stolen.

>Thinkpad, I'd definitely wipe Windows 10 off of it and install a Linux distro, but other than that Sup Forums has been really pissed about new Thinkpads
I believe, de/g/enerates like you should indeed just stick to Macs. You won't be doing anything remotely useful on your laptop anyway.

DYEL faggot

>macshit
>great display

Pick one.

I had a 2015 rMPB, loved it, and then out of nowhere, the backlight goes out, which is a $700 repair from Apple.

Bought a ThinkPad x230, all together like $300 with a new SSD and 9-cell battery, and it's great. If your MacBook lasts, it's awesome but if anything breaks you're fucked.
