Previous This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (nyaa.pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer. The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.
>Why is Pantsu down/error 502? Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.
News >Nyaa works! >Sukebei is in the process of being fixed >Categories and searching works on master >Filelists are implemented but need to be made hideable and tree view >People are working on improving search and making it faster. >Sukebei and nyaa accounts will be the same. >New theme will be added. >Daily db dumps are a thing, rejoice! >Gravatar will be removed and replaced. >Mascots will be customizable. >Site status page has been added! >Style rewrite is to be implemented soon >There is a json api for getting torrent information for those of you who are scraping the site

I seriously hope you're not going for the v2 design though. That version looks so much worse than the previous one.
Asher Long
keep up the good work
Robert Cook
>v2 design Which one is that? The screenshots kipukun posted were very nice, bar a couple things which he said is working on fixing already.
Jordan Wilson
>[11:30] (Panda) kipukun >[11:30] (Panda) lol >[11:30] (Panda) the mascot is in the foreground again
KIPUKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN
Camden Sanchez
Is it really that difficult to maintain a consistent and separate z-index for the mascot that is lower than the main content?
Zachary Howard
It's the pic
Angel Morales
That image looks great though. Which one is v1 then?
Ethan Thomas
it is if you are a retarded underage """webdev"""

traffic has spiked and* I bet it's 100% the japanese downloading their porn. Everyday ~10 pm in Japan our tracker spikes in traffic as well.
Kayden King

The smaller mascot in the background ruined it for me. Everything else in the newer version looks fine though.
Aaron Watson
>implying it wasn't a DDoS attack
Kevin Gomez
Apparently it wasn't.
Liam Thompson
Now if only people would start uploading their shit to Pantsu instead of nyaazi.
Ryan Rivera
It's just you then. I like the smaller Renchon.

wtf is up with 17.04? i cant even do 'go tool tour' like they said in the tutorial ???
Adam Taylor
You seem to have made a site for the japs. Everyone else is using .si Why are they so loyal I wonder?
Caleb Parker
Work. Of the not-mexican-drug-lord kind. Btw, fun torrenting user here. Posting the legendary page... :D

why is this little girl such a slut
Connor Moore
She likes to roam around a music album that just... sets you in the mood...
Tyler Powell
Because the author is a female, and wanted to get fucked by her teacher when she was a little girl.
Michael Reed
why can I not connect to the website
Nicholas Watson
It works for me but it's pretty slow and seems to have reverted to an older version.
Michael Evans
Like the other user said, it's just you. The v2 looks way better.
Brandon Robinson
Is the new version live yet? I'm still getting the old version.

Nathan Rodriguez
I see. I'm guessing you'll deploy it tomorrow since it's almost bedtime for you?
Adam Richardson
If we were going to do ads we'd do it Sup Forums style. Yup no way I'm updating right before I go to sleep anymore. Which will mean more fixes and features.
Tyler Evans
Nobody's talking about the fact that THIS IS NOT WORKING WITH JACKETT ON SONARR ! I'm fucking pissed
Connor Nguyen
>If we were going to do ads we'd do it Sup Forums style. Can you elaborate? Because Sup Forums style after hiro took over was/is cancer ads all over the place.
Cameron Flores

Julian Campbell
>not working on special snowflake configurations Sucks to be you
Robert Cook
People would pay for custom static banner ads that'd last x number of views. Doubt it'll ever happen though. We'll be implementing a proper torznab api soon
Eli Murphy
why is pantsudev so cold
Grayson Martinez
So what trackers are you planning on scraping? I know about nyaazi and Anidex, but I was wondering if you're also considering BakaBT.
Levi Richardson
I'd do bakabt if I had an account on it. Cause I only really post updates or answer questions in these threads. Don't like tripfagging in general so I keep all of it to the bare minimum. Only threads I post in with my trip on outside of these ones are the NNB threads on Sup Forums.
Dominic Price
I'm abit apprehensive about scraping other trackers. On one end, it'll be good to have more torrents to fill up the db. On the other, if the site keeps scraping other sites, the uploaders wouldn't feel the need to upload to pantsu anymore since it can just scrape other sites by itself. Wouldn't pantsu lose uploaders? At least have a 5 min gap for scraping so uploaders got time to upload their torrents on the site before it gets scraped and they find no reason to anymore.
Matthew Parker
>NNB threads on Sup Forums. those haven't existed since months, duh
Gavin Robinson
There was one literally yesterday.
Xavier Green
Yeah that's why I wanted to keep scraping minimal until we lost actual uploaders. I'd still love most of the content to be user generated but if we don't at least keep up to nyaa.si then we'll also lose users. So it's a lose-lose situation and really I'm not sure of the best route to take. I've posted in like 2 nnb threads recently on Sup Forums with like 1 post a thread.
Kevin Moore
Because of S3 announce but otherwise my NNB filter never picks up anything and a quick browse in the catalog doesn't show up anything either ;_;
Oliver Moore
Won't you get banned for scraping private trackers? You do know they can block your crawler, right?
Landon Mitchell
Stay the fuck away from my private trackers with your filthy crawl shit you peasants
James Thompson
>Yeah that's why I wanted to keep scraping minimal until we lost actual uploaders. Maybe scrape other tracks just once a day, except for horriblesubs.
Nathaniel Perez
Uploaders are lazy. Scraping public trackers is a good idea. I'm not sure if scraping private tracker is going to fly with them. You won't be able to connect to the peers in their swarms anyway, since your torrent won't have the proper signature.
Dominic Perez
I push my eyes into my fingers
Blake Bailey
People need to spread the notion that uploading to 1 site is a bad fucking idea as we saw from nyaa. They need to actively start uploading to every single site they can, including mirrors like TT. The only way to do this is to have everyone tell their favorite uploaders and to spread it as much as possible.
Ian Parker
Might be a good idea to do it at least daily. A lot of uploaders have already either picked anidex or nyaa.si. Kinda funny that they've all gone back to the 1 site mentality after nyaa.se. Best route would be to have all uploaders upload to all sites. Could definitely easily be automated for at least nyaa.si and nyaa.pantsu.cat.
Samuel Brooks
>I'd do bakabt if I had an account on it.
What about AB?
Lincoln Jones
This is probably the best idea. It's still really surprising how quickly people got back into the one site mentality. I just want an open distributed anime indexer/tracker. For private trackers we'd have to download the files and regen or modify the torrent file. It does become rather difficult.
Jose Nelson
What monstrous thing are you downloading?
Ryan Anderson
That's mostly because of the njalla downtime. Not blaming you or anything but that long downtime really lost alot of uploaders.
Aiden Nguyen
It's not that big, aroung 30GiB, there are no seeders though, look at the speed.
Chase Diaz
Yeah I know and I blame myself for that. Should've made an announcement and made nyoo.moe known more on the website.
Jonathan Long
I suggest you limit the downloading to one episode at a time. You aren't going anywhere like that.
Jackson James
>It's still really surprising how quickly people got back into the one site mentality. Cause it's all about convenience. Most people don't learn their lesson even after a disaster happens. Humans are set to repeat their mistakes forever.
Sebastian Reed
There, there. No need to blame yourself. It was not your fault.
Owen Powell
This is actually a stupid thing to do. You could be turning away pieces because it isn't a priority and with such sparse seeding, you should just let it dl whatever it can get.
Ethan Davis
The thing is that it's Shigatsu wa kimi no uso, one of the most normie animes out there. You can find the exact same torrent on public trackers and there's literally no one seeding it.
Luke Ward
Still pretty shitty feeling. I wouldn't be surprised if we suddenly gained a ton of uploads if we made this a super secret club or irc based rego like madokami.
David Rivera
I believe that the best option is to scrape everything (dailly could be good). And after having the system fluently going (with at least nyaazi and anidex, the old torrents, and the new frontend deployed) we should switch our attention to integrate and develop the nyaanner local software, so it includes a FULL db of pantsu which updates itself almost constantly with new torrents and any change that is made... I, for one, would love to serve as a backup host if in exchange I can have a fully functional off-line updated pantsu-looking version of the site. And with that mentality we could easily have thousands of back-ups hand ready, we just need to make it attractive enough and more integrated. Doing that I think we could achieve the decentralization needed pretty fine...
Daniel Smith
You fucking fag destroyed pantsu with that downtime! Ok now you got the blame its time to move onwards and dont let past hindrances get you down. Just look into the future where you see Herkz crying in vain while he looks at the glorious pantsy with its glorious ren/g/e mascot!
Camden Rogers
>I wouldn't be surprised if we suddenly gained a ton of uploads if we made this a super secret club or irc based rego like madokami. Don't ever do this. You'll lose all the uploaders. The site is currently not as appealing in convenience as other alternatives. You got the early momentum but lost alot of uploaders with unstable downtimes. What people want now are an easy, convenient and stable site to use. You can only wait for uploaders to come back.
Benjamin Clark
Does it even matter whether uploaders come back or not? Everything will be scraped either way, right?
Ian Gomez
The point is to have users actually using the site instead of the site just being an auomated scraper. No one will feel like using the site if the site can just automatically scrape from other sites. The other problem is also relying on other sites for uploaders instead of the users themselves, which is generally a bad fucking idea.
Cooper Price
Mistakes do happen and they do feel shitty but got to make mistakes to learn. Just trying to figure out how to make this the best possible thing. I need to make travis compile binaries for nyaa for windows. This can be already be used as a proper local client. We also have json apis that nyaaners could possibly use to scrape data instead of having people dl dbs. Also need to convert the recent postgres dumps to sqlite for ease of use. I never would anyway. I'm a huge fan of making everything as open and transparent as possible. Ideally I'd like most of the content to come from users themselves.
Andrew Cruz
>I'm a huge fan of making everything as open and transparent as possible. This is one of the biggest advantages pantsu has over other sites. It's a pity the site lost alot of users because of the unstable downtimes but if you just keep this up and work on implementing things that reflect this, users will come. I believe it'll all work out in the end, you just gotta keep it up and ride out the stormy weather. The keywords now are convenience, accessibility, and open and transparent. >This can be already be used as a proper local client. Working on this is a great idea for the near future after you get the site stable with the new layout to make it as streamline and intuitive as possible for users.
Michael Torres
>We also have json apis that nyaaners could possibly use to scrape data instead of having people dl dbs. Oh yea forget to add this sounds great. If you can make the site a local client that's easy for any user to use, including the tech illiterate, and just have the local client scrape the site itself without requiring db downloads, I think you'll have an amazing functionality that no other site will have.
Logan Cooper
Got to learn from nyaa.se and every other torrent site that exists. Currently you have to compile the program, download the dump and launch it. But having it scrape from nodes to automatically update your local version would be amazing. Since a fully decentralized site has way too many problems with trust a distributed one is probably the best idea with users having local clients to scrape data from nodes. ipfs is probably the way to go. Ideally it would be fully decentralized but distributed seems more plausible. Part of the reason I actually picked golang is for the cross-platform static binaries because they'd be the most ideal for the end user.
Austin Long
>noooo >nyaas fighting >plz staph >politics happening >animu groups being pampered on going for the python terror of .si with 50 pip dependencies. >"don't they know toyota is the best golang?" You are a great guy PantsuDev, will buy you a beer if we ever meet.
Luis Garcia
So, "the other site" is quickly catching up on Alexa. With all the shilling in other places I presume it's going to pass Pantsu in the next two weeks. But what's the status on the home turf?
Jaxon Young
Sounds like you already have an idea of how it's gonna be done. It's sounding great and I think you should make it a priority after getting the site stable and streamlined. Keep up the good fight.
David Lopez
Definitely wouldn't mind a few beers. Especially since I'm also in my last couple of weeks of uni for this sem. Nyaa.si seems to be gaining a lot of traction due to the shilling and being up. However we did actually get quite a large traffic spike a few hours ago. They are definitely getting more uploads on nyaa but we seem to be doing better with sukebei uploads and general jap traffic? I can't confirm this properly though unless they post analytics stats. Definitely would be nice if we got more nyaa uploads though. Yeah once all the main stuff is done and the code is cleaned up it'll be the top priority.
Robert Murphy
This is still going? Just use nyaa.si, stop wasting resources.
Noah Perez
The best part is that this could actually eventually be expanded to be used outside of being an anime indexer/tracker. Could possibly be the solution to torrent sites constantly dying in general.
Gavin Long
>Currently you have to compile the program, download the dump and launch it. >But having it scrape from nodes to automatically update your local version would be amazing. If you can make it a self-installer and a 1 time db dump dl, followed by the local client scraping automatically to update their local db, you'll have a winning formula.
Chase Rodriguez
Yeah that's the eventual plan. If I cater to only power users then it won't get adopted at all. Got to make this as easy to use and useful as possible.
Angel Gutierrez
>Could possibly be the solution to torrent sites constantly dying in general. >Got to make this as easy to use and useful as possible. Literally saving the online file sharing community.
Joseph Wright
Also with the one time db dump dl, and then with having clients updating their locals with any change you make, you also have the advantage of having a lot of backups in case another armageddon were to happen... About moving out from the asian media scene, the best way to go is to be a good role model.
Connor Rogers
Distributed systems are the future. Mass centralization of internet will hopefully start dying. Could even throw in webtorrent for local versions so normalfags could stream but I don't know. Yeah with that then everyone would have a local copy of the db. Complete data loss would be impossible.
Charles Garcia
Wouldnt that be a easy way for backdoors and have high potential for misuse?
Zachary Hall
>be me >torrent flac audio blue-ray anime rip >watch on standard definition tv useing s-video
Eli Powell
For backdoors not really as long as we sign our binaries. Fully decentralized has massive abuse issues but distributed solves a few of these problems. I haven't fully figured everything out. Just been trying to think of the best solutions in my free time and listening to advice from anons. Reading IPFS user's posts has helped a lot with figuring this stuff out.
Justin Powell
Are you saying you want pantsu to eventually become more than just an anime site? I'm not sure how I feel about that.
David Roberts
No pantsu will remain purely anime and japanese focused. I have 0 interest in involving myself in hollywood stuff. But once we have it functional it'd be super easy to port it to not be nyaa focused and I may even eventually make it for more general usage.
Aiden Garcia
Pantsu for world dominance/culture/religion/political system
