Any of you who have worked for repair shops/other tech jobs; How safe is my data with you? If I bring my laptop in for repair, are you gonna go through all of my files? Pic unrelated

No, why the fuck would we do that?
I don't know about other shops, but we'd prefer to stay in business.

why do you need to take your computer somewhere? just do it yourself

yes I do work in a repair shop; yes we do steal your information. I think the worst I have done was taken a few bitcoins from someone's wallet way back when it was new

Depends. I don't care enough to go through each file. If I need to copy data I just más copy all the folders and make sure the file sizes match.

at my old job i did phones for a large multinational company. you bet id look through the pictures on every single company phone being traded in.

Not safe at all

If they make a backup of your hdd, they might see your porn filenames. Just don't be a madthad and you'll be fine.

OP is a paedophile and is worried about the computer janitors finding his cp and calling fbi

no one cares, maybe when its finally booted and the desktop is littered with cp or other questionable content we'd have a good laugh at it but never will it leak out to public or be known to you personally we cared.

if you dont trust them just throw in an empty drive or do it yourself, any shop would have drives and/or live stuff to boot from anyway just turn it in without drive for all the shop cares if its that much of a concern

> few bitcoins from someone's wallet way back when it was new
So they were tech savvy enough to jump on bitcoin early but still had to take their computer to the shop?

Just take out the hard drive XD

You didn't need to be tech savvy at all to buy some buttcoins back in the day. Every chucklefuck was doing it for giggles.

The images will still be in his RAM though.

Some repairers just clone your hard drive so they can look through it later for anything interesting.

not repair shop but printing venue but still I got a lot of projects on pendrives, and I snooped through each and every one of them, especially if they were belonging to nice girls. Found few movies that way, once noce arty nude pics and once homemade porn. Dont trust the guys behind the counter dude.

I think it depends on factors like how does the owner of the laptop look and how horny are the people who repair the laptop.

>you need to be tech savvy to buy bitcoins
buying bitcoins is the easiest thing in the world. When they came out, every dumbass was buying them. I know a dumbass who still buy them
>he buys drugs with BTC
>he gambles online with BTC
>I fucked their gf though so he's mad and doesn't talk to me anymore

you're fucking stupid to think that you need to be a 1337 hacker to buy coins.

When I used to do that shit tier job, I preffered to respect the people's privacy. My older colleague? Not so much.

I suggest you start using Full Disk Encryption. Only way to keep your data private.

> way back when it was new
Sorry, I thought this was the technology board and "when it was new" meant when it was actually new and you had to mine them yourself, not after every drooling idiot could buy them.

I work repair and i don't give a shit.
I could blame it on my older colleagues starting it, but at this point I have python scripts to search for customer nudes and a big library of whatever we find. We're even one of the more polished and expensive shops around.

Basically don't trust anybody with your sensitive data.

Also apparently somebody found evidence of a murder on a computer once and there was a whole thing.

It's not.
Delete any illegal porn before getting your screen repaired, or DIY.

everytime someone talks about bitcoins I bite myself, and cringe. Back in the day, when it wasn't even a big thing on any boards, mining was efficient, even on a laptop. Friend of mine told me to mine it, I was like whaaat? waste my machine on such a stupid shit?
now it's hitting haaaaaard

>Having to take your computer to a shop
>Not having the OS and your files on different drives
>Not jusy removing the drives with personal files

OP this is a good opportunity to fix it yourself, or destroy your pc.

>If I bring my laptop in for repair, are you gonna go through all of my files?

I wouldn't devote any time to unless you're sexy.

I mined some on a laptop. Wasn't worth shit, and didn't even buy magic cards with them.
