No.

Just needs to get cheaper.
Hopefully Sony can get things rolling.

only PSVR is selling a bit and that only because japanese autists want to escape reality

It is gaining a lot of attention and it's not too bad. But it will not become mainstream until they can fit the all that hardware in a volume comparable to a smartphone (instead of an uncomfortable helmet with a big cable). The fact you need extremely expensive hardware to use it for gaming is also a problem since most people don't have (and want) a sli system with multiple "last gen" videocards.
I say that VR will become more common in future, when new technologies will make it possible to make a portable lightweight vr with wireless connection and at least usable even on mid-high range laptops.

Once you get at least 1440p per eye without spending $2000 on hardware it will take off better

They also need to do something about those controller, the one in PIC are a little better but something more natural would be better (after all, most vr games are centered around grabbing and generally hand movements)

It has literally already failed. Nobody even remembers this was a thing anymore and there's a total of zero game announcements for it.

As long it's a 3D TV on your face and not fully immersive it will be shit.
So far it's just a 3D TV where your head acts like a mouse and sometimes you can move in a tiny 5x5m square.

you show a different image to left and right eye, that's how stereoscopic vision works.

Also lighter on your head so you can comfortably use it for more than a few minutes at a time.

No, that's not the issue. That's an perceived issue.
So you see motorcyclists complaining about their helmets?
Eat your vegges so you can grow up big and strong user.

It's just too expensive.
Both the headset and the computing power needed to pull it off.

I doubt it will fail, but it will remain an enthusiast thing, sorta like rc quadcopters.

the thing I hate about it is the hygienics. Faces get sweaty and greasy, especially in the summer.
The trim of that thing is basically a sponge that costs 30 a piece. Washing it causes it to break down faster too.
I can only bring myself to use the vive only when Im right out of the shower. All I can imagine is tons of grease built up in there.
Cant even let other people use it because I don't want their dirt permanently trapped in the face sponge and have to rub my face all over it every time I use the vive from that point on

It's immersive, dude. That's not the problem.
One problem is that it's too immersive, and causes sickness in people since their brain completely believes what they're seeing.

What it needs to do is manipulate the inner ear canals so it can replicate the sensation of movement so there's no disconnect. This is actually already possible, it's just no-one's bothered to merge the two yet.

Its a meme like the xbox kinect was. People don't wan't to be stood up and moving around all the time to play video games.

This run is probably stable but I doubt anyone beyond brainless early adopters with more money than sense will give a shit about it for a long time if ever, it's far too isolating.

>do you see motorcyclists complaining about their helmets

I see American motorcyclists complain about the weight of helmets CONSTANTLY, so they don't wear them. As a person who has 30k+ miles on bikes and currently only has a motorcycle for transportation, I always wear a full face helmet and the weight doesn't bother me personally. But there are hundreds of thousands of frequent motorcycle riders in my state, Illinois, who never wear helmets because "they hurt my neck".

There are a lot of games when you don't have to stand up.

I hear some complaining about particular models, for being too heavy or for not having a decent airflow and getting too hot during hot seasons.

Give them a glass of concrete and tell them to harden the fuck up.
Yes VR goggles can be lighter, but it's the sensation of something of your face that's the problem.
No different to wearing glasses, at first it suck, but you don't notice it after a while. Same goes for the weight. But a bit more strengthening of the muscle.

look at that vitamin deficiency.

It failed already for the second time.

Vive owner here, VR is just so damn cool, and the hardware is good enough, prices need to come down and developers need to invest

Let's cut the bullshit. How's the porn user? ?As good as well hope?

They fucked up their fit, Vive/Rift don't leave marks when worn correctly. Both are comfortable enough right now (I can wear my rift for hours as long as it isnt too hot in my play space). The only issue I have is the cable, it's annoying sometimes but wireless will happen sooner or later.

VR won't come to fruition until it's capable of sensory hijack and fooling the inner ear.

>Will the VR stuff fail?
It already has.
