Is there an easy way to use openbsd as a desktop? Or is it just for servers?

X11 comes with the base system. Most DEs and WMs are available as packages. A lot of the developers use it on their laptops as a daily driver.

Stop using GNU/Linux software.

FreeBSD or DragonBSD for X220?

Maybe I'll try again.

I'm not familiar with specific models, but both should work well if it has Intel graphics. OpenBSD should have better laptop support in general, but only Dragonfly currently has support for the most recent graphics chipsets. Aside from that, as long as the wireless isn't Broadcom, it should work too. OpenBSD's (user and developer) community is much bigger, so it may be easier to find support/documentation.

>DragonBSD

I'll try to answer any questions about FreeBSD/OpenBSD if there's any interest.

I have desktop and server experience with both after using Linux for a number of years previously.

best to let these threads die

Which DE/WM you use on OpenBSD?

Why? Aside from license shitposters, they're usually helpful to new users.

I like i3wm.

how do you compile linux programs?
./configure && make && make install?

and what is the best modem manager that can send USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), like *123#, *456#, *789#..., sending SMS, etc?

>joining #baot
>ever
all you get is anime talk and a homeless faggot making cringy videos all the while asking for donation.

>how do you compile linux programs?

Generally, they're already packaged for you and ready to install. You can also use the ports system to compile them if you prefer. Both are well documented. If you want to manually download the source and build them with make, that works too, but using packages/ports will save you time and effort.

>and what is the best modem manager

What would you use for this in Linux? I'm not familiar with them.

>a homeless faggot
wat
otherwise sounds pretty comfy desu

>What would you use for this in Linux?

NetworkManager.

are most bsd users homeless?

Should work for most things unless you need a library or something.

Just the ones that like to post BSD threads.

>What would you use for this in Linux?
see

not him but openbsd comes with CWM which is fantastic

shame that whenever i have to use other operating systems their version of CWM is usually way behind

give me 1 good reason why openbsd man pages are better, I don't see anything good beyond afterboot, all sucks

sucks how

setting up wifi is millions times easier than gnu/linux

but wifi on linux works oob where as in bsd you have to compile your ints and bits and floats

hilarious

literally this easy

man.openbsd.org/ifconfig#IEEE_802.11_(WIRELESS_DEVICES)

ikr?

bsd is complicated bruh

aren't you the dumb nigger who got doxxed

could be if you remember my name

wtf i love freebsd now

Beastie's not FreeBSD-specific

Give me some good resources for a quick start with zfs.

>tfw firefox is faster on freebsd than on arch
feels great

It's a pretty good and stable desktop, but no non-free binary support now that linux compat and wine don't work. The usual suspect free software works perfectly.

Can bsd handle multiple GPUs? I have a 1060 + 1080 Ti in my machine. One screen connected to each. Also can it into wine? I want to be able to run World of Warcraft.

FreeBSD works with official Nvidia drivers and wine works fine.

Hypothetical question what would happen if a BSD-hipstershit had to go to a hospital?

>Hipster, you need to cut down on the fucking cheetohs
>whats that over there
>A machine keeping you alive
>"machines" have "software" on them and were made after "1995" and I don't believe in that because of this gay pseudo political hippie fuckfaggot turd movement I'm part of
>what would all the other circlejerklets on IRC say?
>But beastie this machine is free to you paid for by taxes
>"all u need is a 386 lol u dont need dat"
>he rips the cords out of hipster and kicks his bed out of the room as it rolls away
>Hey hipster how do you feel now
>"Free as fuck"
>beastie shits his bed as it cartwheels out of a window.
>It says here you're not clinically alive. how do you feel?
>like I am truly free
>beastie's bed hits the ground where his grave is neatly already dug "muh ports"
epitaph reads "I am bsd-beddur than u"
