Why are HD6X0s so overrated?

I'm not saying they're bad, but the way people talk about them I was hoping for sonic heaven.

Because they're over hyped and memed around way too much for what they are. If you like them, good for you. If you don't, that's fine too because it all comes to your own preference.

>no visible vagine
Shit OP.

Also to the eurocuck, don't get the MSR7. Way too bright for anyone but weirdo nips.

Brand SOL REPUBLIC.
Good, average or another Beats?

650s would be my idea home headphone if not for the:
- stiff construction
- CLAMP
- earpads that degrade after a couple years and you have to spend $65 in fucking foam for your several hundred dollar headphones

uh yeah. none of this cartoon porn shit buddy. only post respectable girls wearing respectable headphones next time.

Shit tier wanna be beats.

What is current budget kind?Still superlux hd 662 evo modded for 20$?

>animke webkite

Because they're the benchmark of neutral sound quality in headphones. Not everyone prefers this type of sound signature.
sam.hi-ho.ne.jp/t-suzuki/audio_headphones/audio-technica_ath-msr7.html

MSR7's treble response is really weird.

I have my AKGs. Just wanna know /hpg/ opinion.
Actually think they pretty good or yesterday I had problems with my ears.

They are not worst chink shit ever. But they still have about 30$ sound.
There are also many versions of them, big quality issues, shit breaks after week to most ppl. Check reviews, sound is pretty acceptable just the fact that they do not last long kinda kills it.

Have the etymotic mc5 for IEMs. They're ok, I bought them because they feel nice. Own the dt1770 for actual listening at home.

I don't give a shit about sound quality as long as it's decent, I just want something that's wireless for the gym.
Please without those shitty plastic rings that go around the outside of the ear (detachable is fine). I've never tried out earbuds with those wing looking things, but anything comfy is good.

Thanks in advance.

nice trips, check out LG's range of bluetooth earphones

>Way too bright for anyone but weirdo nips
Do you think they are still too bright for some weirdo like me who enjoys to get raped by DT990's?

>MSR7's treble response is really weird.
Elaborate please. I'm no expert and all i know is subjective experience.

>Do you think they are still too bright for some weirdo like me who enjoys to get raped by DT990's?
You'd feel at home 2bh.

>Elaborate please. I'm no expert and all i know is subjective experience.
How it dips in the lower highs then rise back up, kinda like AKGs, gives it a metallic tone. Sorry if I'm using buzzwords but that's how it sounds to me.

Every single one of these has that weird neckband thing. Any other recs?
How hard will I get fucked if I just choose some no-name amazon top seller?

Make sure it has good reviews, I usually recommend LG for the sound quality since they're typically the best but you did say you don't give a shit about it.

I mean I've heard some pretty muddy IEMs, I just don't expect great sound anymore.
Everything has good reviews nowadays, which is why it's tough to distinguish something that's actually decent.
Thanks for the rec.

The measurement is rather non-standard. I would be wary of using these graphs as these would confuse more than help.
MSR7 response is not particularly strange. Typical peak around 9-10kHz, broadly lacking amplitude from 2-8kHz or so. The bass response is more even than most close-backed headphones, but the bottom octave is subject to steady cutoff.

>You'd feel at home 2bh.
Home sweet home. Maybe a store in my city has them so i can test them. If they sound like Beyers it's a no brainer for me.

So is that measurement reliable or not?

>So is that measurement reliable or not?
To leave out the exposition of how to perform acoustic measurements, no.

What do sound signatures actually mean?

How it sounds, emphasized bass, emphasized treble, etc

What does that mean though? Does it make certain frequencies louder?

Some louder, others quieter

To put it in layman's terms: the "balance" of the frequencies that together make up the sound the headphone produces.

My 668B's sound wider than my PortaPros, so yes.

Even tho I could not tell difference between mp2 and flac what annoys me more is that this "radio" plays such monotonous shit.
It's like A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B
for hours
I want some of that A-A-A-B-C-C-B-A-A-A-G-G-Z

It does play mc-donald farm song atm.
Is all your music from free to use archive youtube?

I love my mp2 files

I'm thinking about getting a Fulla 2 for my 598s. Is this a wise investment? I've read that 598s are right on the cusp of getting some meaningful improvement from an amp, but I wanted to get more opinions.

Used HD598 for 2 years and a half without an amp. Tried a fulla2 a friend bought. Blew my mind.
Ordered modi2u+magni2u after that. Not an improvement over the fulla2, at least not on HD598.

SOON

What kind of music do you listen to? Not just genre and such, but formats, bitrates, that kind of thing. I occasionally resort to streaming music, so it may be a bit of a waste to get another piece of hardware.

...

My collection is mostly FLAC (from CDs).
I'll listen to anything, pretty much. Videogame music, demoscene, anime, metal, classical, idolm@ster/lovelive/idoletc.
Note that bitrate/compressionshit doesn't really matter here, it's not a "detail" thing. The FR of HD598 changes with an amp, due to really pronounced impedance variance across frequency.

Hm. Seems I still have a lot to learn.

Also, which is best idol and why is it Takane?

Because hara yumi.
But while I like her... I do favor umi (love live) and chihaya (im@s).

>The FR of HD598 changes with an amp, due to really pronounced impedance variance across frequency.

Does the same go for the 558? Will be using it with a FiiO E10K, if it matters.

What is closer to my old M40xs?
The 598s or the 880s?

wat is this on my mdr v6?

Nothing, literally. Their rattlecan tier paint job is wearing off.

Damn, how old is that? Mine is 5 years old and the only problem it had was needing new pads (which seems to be your case too).

How fucked am I if I can only power my 600ohm headphones with an E10K?

I'm really fucking torn here. Help me out:

can anyone list the merits and weaknesses of the following headphones, hopefully from someone who actually owns them

HD600 vs HE-400i vs DT880 600ohms

Probably better to power say DT880 600 Ohm with a Fulla2/Magni2 or O2. If you want to stay around E10K price range, DAC X6 or I believe the standalone amp version is the PHA-1 I think (not from sony, can be found on AliExpress)

Out of those three, i've only owned the HE-400i and I would describe them as darker HD 650s with better bass. All I can say for build quality is, despite being comfy and fitting me pretty well, it felt somewhat cheap to hold, despite its headband being pretty overall solid.

>Fulla2/Magni2 or O2
The Fulla2/Magni2 can't be shipped to where I live, and the O2 will take about a week, hence why I said how fucked am I.

However the e10k can be shipped tomorrow with prime.

On the E10K, you should be okay just don't expect it to get loud.

>you should be okay just don't expect it to get loud
How loud are we talking here?

Microwave beeps?
Phone alarm on max volume?
Fire alarm?
Live concert?

Get one of these instead

I own the HD600 and DT880.

Go with the HD600, more balanced of the two, less fatiguing while still being crystal clear. DT880 is good, it's comfier but has annoying sibilance, if you like airy treble then you would prefer the DT880.

What about a DAC then?
amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/144-7948803-6546610?url=search-alias=electronics&field-keywords=DAC

It's actually a dac+amp, not just an amp.

Thank you so much

You're welcome, user.

Well what headphones we talking here?

Okay thanks. Mines is 4 years old, with 2 year old pads. It wiped right off. Why green, though?

I have a pair of HD600's that I've been using for almost a year now, and been happy with them cause I wanted a flat signature when I bought them at the time. However preferences do change over time, and I do want something with more bass. Is it possible to take out the standalone HD600 drivers and throw in two HD650 drivers? They are about $150 USD on the spare parts sennheiser website.

Or is it better just to get a straight upgrade instead?

One more question, will it power the 880 600ohm decently?

These.

Getting laid off soon and I'm thinking about downgrading from my HD800s. What else compares to that soundstage?

What about sub-bass? Is the HD600 really that good that you can just turn a blind eye to the lack of it?

Fuck, why are headphone reviews so unreliable? Everybody's saying contradicting things and all so very subjective.

My Shure SE215's cable is kind of fucked.

I need a new one but I'd also like one that has a microphone in it.

Any suggestions?

I bought one off eBay ages ago but the microphonics were so bad it was completely useless.

It should be okay. It's not an amazing amp+dac or anything, but it should get the job done in that low price range.

see me The sub bass is lacking.

I feel like I've asked before so sorry in advance if anons have repeated themselves.

Absolutely closed.

Maybe v-shaped? I want bass to be audible but not overwhelming.
>Past headphones
Sennheiser open back 598s. Did not like the fact they had little audible bass and the open-ness of them. Those are the only "high end" ones I've ever had.

I listen to a different array of tunes. Hip hop, metal, classic rock, some classical, electronic, some pop. Bit of everything. I'd like some that work with all of it.

This is fucking ridiculous. Does the DT880 have better sub-bass or not? AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I'm not a basshead. I just want present, tight, and clean bass---all the way down to the sub-bass.

If anons here say that the HD600's sub-bass leave much to be desired, what about the DT880s?

Get an HD650 instead

If you want V-shape + sub-bass get the DT770 (closed) or DT990 (open) if you don't mind airy treble.
DT880 are great but i think they have the worst bass of those three, shouldn't be a deal breaker though.

Really, I just want to be able to differentiate 40Hz from 60Hz as an example. I don't want it to be "just there."

Yes.

>The Fulla2/Magni2 can't be shipped to where I live
schiit.com/faq/international

Never actually tried to seperate all those low frequencies but they should be able to do this. DT's have imho superb, clean and precise bass.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

via Amazon prime.

Are external DACs really necessary? I don't hear any noises from my laptop line out.

The clamp is easily fixed in 2 minutes. Can't disagree with you on the other points but the trade off is worth it for the 600 in my case.

Anyone else with a schiit stack or just magni 2. Does your magni 2 get slightly hot when the weather is warm? is this normal?

Can't compare to the 800's but the 702 has the biggest soundstage I've ever heard. At least compared to all the obvious 'big' headphones in the £100-£300 price range

They're optional until you have good amp and headphones.

What's your choice for listening orchestral music in hi-mid tier? (except DT880 and HD6x0)

Neat. So feeding an O2 or a Magni 2 with the analog output of my laptop is fine, right? Adding a DAC to the budget would be too much for me.

DT770 pro 80 ohm.
V shaped, awesome bass, and super comfy.

Always better to search multiple plots and understand what sort of conditions the measurements were done under.

Being overrated is subjective. It's an affordable version of a classic model which many people like.

>Does it make certain frequencies louder?
Or quieter, the frequency magnitude. Bandwidth(how low and high the headphones can play) and the relative loudness of the frequencies within this band basically defines how a headphone sounds like. Pic related is a measurement of in-ear headphones which show a notably bassy frequency response.

>The FR of HD598 changes with an amp, due to really pronounced impedance variance across frequency.
Only if amplifier has high output impedance and you can equalize that away.

Yes but what happens is predictable, fixable with equalization and happens only if amplifier has high output impedance.

DT770 80 Ohm
For something a little more portable with more accessories/options - Custom Studio

>Does your magni 2 get slightly hot when the weather is warm? is this normal?
Yes and yes.

I thought so but just wanted to check. Thanks.

Interestingly, it also gets more or less hot depending on what's plugged to them (HD598 way hotter than HD600), and depending on whether you're playing music (makes it colder).

What's the difference between the Custom Studio and the Custom One Pro?

Is Soundmagic E10 still considered the good budget earphones or is there a new good alternative?

Different drivers. The custom studio uses DT770 80 Ohm drivers and has a coiled detachable. Custom One Pro has an inferior driver and has a straight detachable.

HD600 bass is well enough for most of the songs and it's midrange is THE BEST out of all similarly priced headphones period. It is forward, vocals are more in your face, and doesn't have a dip in the upper midrange/lower treble that contributes perfectly to female vocals. But it's achilles heel is most of electronic music due to sub bass roll off and call me an audiopfool but even before all the reviews and shit I went to the shop asking for HD600 and having no knowledge on beyerdynamics and after switching them for at least 1,5 hours beyerdynamics sounded faster.

I didn't spend much time with DT880, but impression I've got is that bass was tighter on it, and they somehow sounded faster. They also sounded 'cleaner' probably due to the treble peak but what puzzled me less detailed then HD600. Some parts in the song sounded less clear and a bit muffed in comparison to HD600. Only after getting HD600 I started to go down the rabbit hole, looking at FR response and discovering dip in upper mids that DT880 had.

Conclusion, give us music that you listen to. HD600 struggles at electronic music but does pretty much everything from good to superb and I don't think HD650 will be solution to sub bass problem since it doesn't really add that much of it and just lowers the treble which I found bad unless you get fatigue from HD600 forward mid and full treble, some people do surprisingly but very few.

>hot
can comfirm magni 2 gets very hot with hd600 plugged in, and not just in hot weather, strangely when in passthrough mode (playing through speakers) it hardly even gets warm

the only gripe I have with magni is when sometimes I switch my fan on, or use shredder it fucking stops playing/resets... they could have made the design better in this department
