How do I stop playing vidya and start learning how to program?

How do I stop playing vidya and start learning how to program?

jus do it, fren :))

You don't.

But how? Games are much more fun

self control

omg fuckin god this picture. it's perfect.

just be yourself

Well then you should grow up first. Gaymes are no fun if you are not a kid anymore

what's that?

How do I grow up?

install linux
seriously

Not masturbating on busses, or shitting in bathtubs.

I feel like you are trying too hard user
Same as studying user, set time 1-2 hours every day and just do it.
Watch some videos or read books. Also you can just create something, you will learn a lot like that.

Maybe get a laptop or PC thats only good for programming?

>starts playing old games and emulating

Stop living by first.

The only good idea.
Have a nice day, man.

THIS

>starts playing competitive tux racer

shit i think you have a problem.....

...

Delete saves. It's the only way, I swear.
I played pokemon for ~8hrs/day when I was in high school. When I decided I wanted a life, I deleted the save and sold off most of my gaymen gear. Started programming the same week.
Now I'm a third year CE student and I'm interning at a NASA center. Take the leap, games are garbage.

>but deep inside I still want to play video games instead of being a pseudo-successful slave as the society wants me to be

yeah because that's a step up from being a total loser/failure and having to leech off people and feeling like shit because you don't accomplish anything, not even remotely.

Give it up, time to grow up.

>being a total loser/failure
You know that the term "loser" is just a gimmick made my the society to manipulate sheeple like you. You also probably think that a man who hasn't stuck his penis into some Stacy's vagina is a loser too.

>You know that the term "loser" is just a gimmick made my the society to manipulate sheeple like you
you sound like a sore disappointment who tries to justify their existence without contributing anything to their community/society. Enjoy being a leech.

Stop being so narrow minded.

play programming games

Like?

>thinking that playing games is for children
>calling someone narrow-minded.

Really makes me think.

shenzhen i/o and the rest of the line

>it is
>that poster was
You should fucking think. You're letting yourself down.

Screeps is pretty good

Do berkeley cs61a I did it's bretty gud

user is right, i have windows and linux installed on pc, when you are booted on linux u dont even think on gaming

Playing gaymes doesn't imply being unable to learn how to program
you stupid frogposting cancer russkie dipshit.

don't need to stop playing vidya
make schedule
>tfw stay on computer for 17hrs/day for games, programing, and shit posting

/thread

Acknowledge that all modern games suck and just stop playing.

Sell the GPU from your gaming PC.

TIS-100 is noice

Play games with programming, e.g. GMod with E2 or Starfall (basically Lua).

You could also make game mods.

t.loonix gaymur

Thats where you're wrong Kiddo

The reason you like to play instead of working is you find playing more fun than work.

You can increase the fun with your work by making silly projects.
Solve games with programming.

There is a lot of good subtasks programmers should know.
Always keep track of the what your goal is and what you need to know in order to do it.

A good example is solving a maze.
Reading a file. (here you can use something simple like a text file, but I would advice that you import an image)
Applying an algorithm.
Write to a file.

A more advanced maze would be something like sokoban.
There, you have an overlapping path which means you cannot predict how long the path will be which creates extra challenges to the programmer.

When you think you are proficient in static games, move on to random games.
Think small, like something like a ludo game or something.

When you have done this, try to make controllers for more modern games, still keeping it simple, like a controller for a race game.
You can keep going and make controllers for more advanced games if you want, but at this point, You can call yourself a programmer.

throwing gpu into trash and running on intel igpu forever like a proper person

Transition, gradually.

Start modding for video games.

Get into the scripting language for that game.

Follow the rabbit hole from there.

1) stop playing bidya
2)learn to program
3)???
4)profit

space station 13

install linux
just lurk and watch streams
no motivation to do shit ;-;

Hang up yourself on a tree.

>777929▶
You guys fucking replying to this cunt frogposter OP

>go on a programming spree ingame in SS13
>write a LISP REPL in the radio
>write a connect 4 game in the radio
>write custom command channel that allows officers to remotely lock down all doors in any sector
>share them about for a couple months and no one ever uses a single command
Don't do this, it's fun for 5 minutes.

I suggest first coming up with an idea, then using programming as a tool to achieve your goal

For example, I would really like to make a cross-platform music player that can automatically play songs from my cloud account, or something like that.

I use that as motivation, then figure out how to do it. I research, find out that Qt is a good framework for cross-platform development, the main language it uses is C++ so I learn that a little bit first, then begin to create my first GUI, learning more and more Qt/C++ in the process.

Just "learning programming" is boring imo

Just do both. Maybe make mods for games, or try writing your own. You don't have to give up gaming to program.

>Install Gentoo
>Spend all my time ricing shit
I have a discipline problem

>did it
>fell for the dankpad meme
>now can't stop playing wizardry 8 and warcraft 3

I guess I'm just gonna have to use the good old fashioned willpower. Gonna have to dust it off, it's been a long time.

Underrated, gayming is the reason I started to program.

>was in gaming clan
>wanted a new website = learned how to webdev
>wanted some management software = learned how to write PHP
>had a IRC channel, needed a bot = TCL scripting and basic admin skills
>automate some tasks in the game = learned how to write bots

and so on

1. install linux
2. no gaems
3. ???
4. profit

don't do this.
you'll end up making a pajeet-tier job at everything and they'll be a security hellhole.

>Install Gentoo
>Spend all my time reading emerge manuals

Turn off your Internet or take your Laptop and go outside.
A different environment can be quite helpful

Sell your graphics card

Human Resource Machine Is pretty good

Fuck off
