Flawed concept.

It turned out you couldn't modularize phones enough.

They hired Pajeets

I wish they hadn't given up on Ara so quickly.

Because it would've killed the mobile industry

Imagine, you'd never have to buy a completely new phone.
Just switch the parts you want.

That would lead to drastically lower sales in the mobile market

(((They))) would lose sales because you wouldn't have to buy a new phone once the built in battery turns to shit after a year or two.

Anoda Shoa

I think everyone was already too whored out to big name brands.

People would just stick to a combination they'd like, making full customization completely useless. You might as well just have asked what the user wanted in their phone, and send them a completed phone with the features they wanted

People don't spend thousands of dollars for the hardware, they only care about the brand and the design

You would never be able to switch the chipset

because phones would last too long and phone sales would collapse and in turn phone companys would get less money, thats why. they want to sell crippled non upgradable phones so you will buy a new one after a year or 2. tl;dr because money

Capitalism

*Intel flashbacks*

we all know who to blame

Companies would have to stop manufacturing entire phones altogether and would have to start only selling individual components, which possibly means earning less money. (((They))) weren't having that.

Also, modular cellphones are hard.

Nice idea laid on the worst foundation possible.
Both ARM and Android hate you if you present it any hardware that it doesn't expect.

I propose a solution.

this
Portability and (genuine) modularity is mutually incompatible

I'd imagine that the biggest problem is that 99% of the market is comprised of normies that just want to be given a blackbox and told that everything in it is cutting edge and they're hot shit for owning it.

Most people don't want choices - they want to be told what they want.

>the free market is the best thing ever!
>companies try everything to maximize their profit? it's the jews fault!
like, make up your mind

People dont want cyberpunk shit.

They want homosex things

But they made a quasi-modular phone in the Netherlands, it's called Fairphone and it's designed with user maintanance as a high priority. It isn't a magical Duplo phone with interchangable blocks, but it set sail in the opposite direction from the mainstream manufacturers.

Not made by Apple

>stormfags
>capitalist
Are you retarded?

>drop your ara in public
>it opens apart like legoes
>spaghetti everywhere
They forgot to add the case, that's what went wrong.

>national socialists and libertarians/ancaps are the same
Wow you're one dumb guy

>Then in April 2016, one month before Ara’s biggest-ever reveal, planned for Google I/O, Dugan suddenly left.
>She was hired to lead Building 8, an undefined company created by Facebook with “hundreds of people and hundreds of millions of dollars” at her disposal, Mark Zuckerberg wrote on his personal Facebook page announcing the appointment.
>“When she left, there was essentially a leadership vacuum,” a source said. “Because there wasn’t a champion for Ara, someone who could really go to bat for it, I think it just fell down the priority list. And if you look at the LG [G5] phone, it just didn’t do very well. If you look at the other attempts at modularity and try to get a feel for the market, there’s just not a lot of good signals out there.”

(((Zuckerberg))) killed Ara.

I guess that's why people don't buy new PCs you fucking retard.

"muh thin" killed it

the benis was too strong

That's a great idea user!!

Ara~ara~

most stormfags are capitalists in denial since it's the only viable right wing option. same goes for leftists who vote for social democrat reformers

most stormfags are natsoc or just fascist in general

>Portability and (genuine) modularity is mutually incompatible
>what are LEGOs

so anyone with the ability to manufacture modular phones could kill the phone industry?

oy vey, cameras are a premium goy! If you want a luxry like having camera on your phone then youre gonna have to pay extra!

Do it. This cancer needs to die.

Normies don't want to make smart purchases, they want to buy the next hot shit

Nay-sayers squashed its publicity.
It was a good idea but people are just dinks.
Muh fashun and all that.

My guess is that it was too risky
The idea of a modular phone is great, but where do the modules come from? Companies have to produce them.
And what if they dont want to produce them? They wont be able to sell them for as much as a brand new phone, and it certainly wouldnt be as simple as taking one component out of their new phone and popping it into a little lego brick.

So my guess is that very few companies would want to participate, and therefore there wouldnt be many blocks.

Basically this.
They're all fashion fags who claim to be open minded and breaking norms but don't like anything that they do not already like or follows a similar theme.

classic example of doing something because you can not because you should, a capability is not necessarily a utility

PC's are a little different. the individual parts can be very expensive and they're typically so complicated that only a few manufacturers can specialize on a few parts at a time.

I doubt there would ever be discussions over a new gpu chip for the ara in the same way that people go nuts for vega/volta

non-interchagable screens and we have the Moto Z now anyways

Electronics don't snap together like legos. The concept was flawed from the beginning by someone who obviously oversimplified it.

Nobody cares about upgrading a cheap toy they're going to be mocked for owning by the time an upgrade is worth the investment anyway.

Nobody cares about expanding a cheap toy with no useful expansion options and a shit application base for the few use cases that still require expansion.

It was a retarded waste of time that mostly only appealed to cheap ass 20-somethings who wouldn't buy one anyway when the time came to actually spend money on it.

This post reeks of projection, the reality is that most of them simply don't care and find all phones to be the same anyway, and they're not even wrong.

People wont be rushing to the crapple store to buy the most newest overpriced ishit if they break something on their phone, they would just snap the part out and replace it, thus it would kill profits for greedy mother fucking companies like crapple.

Also their little planned obsolesce gig would no longer fuck over phone owners and people would just upgrade 1 or 2 parts, not wast so much fucking money buying a new phone every fucking 6 months.

It wouldnt make the skypes any shekels, and they dont care about anything else other than their fucking shekels.

they dont snap like legos but i could be engineered to do so, i took apart one of my old samsung s3 and it was very easy.

>implying newer but chink modular phones are not being made

Everyone bitched at the looks and it exploding when dropped. This could have been very easily solved with the final piece being a case type enclosure to keep everything tight and secured. People wouldn't even know your phone was modular before you removed the backing.

How could they not figure out something so simple?

>People wont be rushing to the crapple store to buy the most newest overpriced ishit if they break something on their phone, they would just snap the part out and replace it, thus it would kill profits for greedy mother fucking companies like crapple.

Stormfags are so stupid. No wonder they think DJT is qualified to be president.

Project Ara was a Google thing. The Google that makes Android. The Android that is COMPETING against Apple iOS. Why the fuck would they care if it screwed over their competitor? That's a good thing.

>Why the fuck would they care if it screwed over their competitor?

For the same reason they sold off Motorola.

We're not one person.
