What is the best DE and why is it KFCE?

Hi Tyrone.

>KFCE

Personally I feel lit looks a little dates. But whatever makes you happy buddy.

then customize it?

Defaults are uggo but it can be made nice

I personally like the Mint defaults

I prefer the Ubuntu Studio defaults

Not sure why anyone complains about this, you can make it look as modern or as old as you want.

That's the same without a dock, a black bar, and a whisker menu

>I feel lit looks a little dates
It looks good to me

>no rat icon

its actually openbox/i3 op

get with the window manager meme already

KFCE

>what is customization

>postulating an initial open ended question then changing the question to one that seeks validation for your own opinionated answer to the initial question disregarding that the initial question is open ended and has no definitive correct answer

Why do all the gtk DE look like fisher price toys?

Show us something better

>Falko Timme

KFCE nga wut

Post wall, please.

XFCE with Openbox

Because it's gnome

Post your config.

>not using a wm

It's XFCE because no one has come around to making a QT replacement for it.

Seriously, GTK is shit tier as they purposely go out of their way to break themes and other features on the basis that those things hurt their "brand recognition" (i.e. GTK users are walking bilboards for GTK).

> It's XFCE because no one has come around to making a QT replacement for it.
lxqt?

wait I thought openbox was a DE

I was going to check out Bunsenlab os (because my buddy recommended #! a while back) but I'm liking how light XFCE is, and it's customizable enough. I'm not on my main laptop right now or I'd post a screencap.

Openbox is a wm, you can use it in place of xfwm.

I thought you guys were joking when you said KDE was buggy. My desktop had black flickering, the menu bar crashed god what a mess im switching to xfce

What is wrong with GTK?

DESKTOPS

>gtk is shit because my shitty custom theme hasn't been updated since 2008

Come back when you have actual arguments against the toolkit, idiot.

Unity

Xfce's Always on top feature is the most amazing thing I've seen.
Pretty comfy browsing 4chinz and watching anime at the same time.

I don't know why the open source community doesn't understand that the defaults are like 90% of usability. When I install a wm, I want it to look good and have logically usable interface. Every DE/WM has this wrong except for Gnome (partially) and Pantheon.

XFCE : looks shit by default
LXDE: shit shit look
KDE: shit keybindings by default
i3: yeah I'm gonna have to spend a month editing the i3bar, oh and I have to download a friggin program just to change my wallpaper??
iceWM: seriously, who uses iceWM these days?

This is literally in every DE I've seen

I've used Unity and GNOME and tried LXDE.
Haven't seen this in Unity or GNOME.

Just fucking right click on the window decoration. Gnome, Unity, KDE, LDXE, all of them have it. Some compositors even allow you to set it as partially transparent, just so you see shit under the window.

You can customize it however you want

My nigga

i installed debian with xfce
i'm wondering if i can delete xfce completely and just use a wm?
why do you really need a de?

Well debian dependency management is really shit, so please recheck the packages that will be removed...
You better reinstalling Debian since it may trigger the removal of the core system, or do not remove xfce.

thought something might go to shits so i'm doing a netinstall currently

but still
why do you really need a de? isn't a wm enough?

>why do you really need a de? isn't a wm enough?
>t. someone who doesn't know anything about either of them
