First for 7700K is better than the 1700X at gaming

t.

CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600/i5 7600 - good value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you too lazy to OC, 7600K if you want to OC

>R7/Xeon/Threadripper/ - compute/Multitask/mixed use

Anyone know the release date for these RX580 cards everyone keeps recommending?

>No i5
So you're just going to ignore a more mature CPU with less growing pains than the entire Ryzen line up just because it has hyperthreading? That's fucking retarded. Even with hyperthreading, the 1500X is shit compared to the 7600K.
Why would you want the 580? They cost the same as 1080 Tis for 1060 performance.

>no i5

Ah time to head back to the other thread. I see the AMD shill resides in this one.

MUH BINGBUS

t. intel shill

I know this is a question for /tpg/ but that thread is dead. So I have a t420 coming and am wondering if getting a msata SSD is worth it. I was planning on getting a cheap 32gb one just to boot from, replacing the regular drive with a SSD and placing the old drive in a caddy. Also does anyone know if replacing the i5 with an i7 is worth the 40 bucks? Or will it be so marginal that I'm better off just keeping the i5?

get a ssd for the t420

how is my build?
pcpartpicker.com/list/bhHzLD

Yes, that is the plan but I'm asking how well a msata preforms in it and if it's worth the 15ish bucks to get a small msata too boot from to clear up some SSD room.

if its $15 it is worth the upgrade for the reduced boot time

You won't do much with a 32gb drive. Or linux is that small?

install gentoo

Is it fun?

yes

youtube.com/watch?v=VjGSMUep6_4

I just built a Ryzen 1600 and 1060 6gb build.
Playing some Borderlands and I'm barely averaging 60 fps, what gives?

Yeah, I could install a lot of distros like 10 times on that size.

>Ryzen 1600
There's your problem
Should have gotten an Intel Core i5-7500

>barely
turn v-sync off

fuck off and stop shilling you autismo

I don't want screen tearing

Not even an option in the settings, its a 2009 game.

then get freesync or goyimsync

v-sync is an option, retard

Don't play the zombie dlc then.

What cpu should I buy for games and light Photoshop use ? My budget is 300-350$

Just for the CPU or whole build?

A lot of people that look for recommendations on specific components, I put together a list of full builds using an NZXT CPU Cooler and Case. I tried to scale each component uniformly with the rest of the build.

pcpartpicker.com/user/horsejumper/saved/

I'm going with a 1080 ti gpu if that helps

Reposting because last thread died:

Does anyone have advice on what I should upgrade for better /vg/ performance?

Graphics card only, or should I get a new CPU to avoid bottle-necking? This would probably make it necessary to get a new motherboard as well, as I'm running an FX-6300 (AM3+ socket).

>tfw poorfag

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is my recommendation for that processor.

If you want to get a slightly more powerful graphics card, get the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

GPU should be fine for that resolution. CPU can do with an upgrade. So can the monitor. You can afford anew SSD as sell.

dont get a new gpu

you need a new cpu first

I mean, it's true. But most adults don't have time to buy an intel processor :^)

need a gpu suggestion for my budget gaming build (at 1080p 60fps). My local computer store is having a sale on Galax GTX cards. Now I'm looking at:
#1 1050Ti 4GB
#2 1060 3GB for 1.5x the price of #1
#3 1060 6GB for 1.75x the price of #1
which one would you choose and why?
>zero RX400/RX500 stock everywhere

If this is a budget build, I would recommend the GTX 1050 Ti.

thanks!
I guess what I'm worrying about is, will the performance of the 1060 justify the price difference? ($70-80 jump for 1060 3GB and ~$120 for 1060 6GB)
if yes perhaps I need to suck it up and get the 1060 instead?

The GTX 1060 pushes numbers a little faster than the GTX 1050 Ti, however; I believe the GTX 1050 Ti is more fit for a budget build.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 3gb should do very good 1080p gaming on high settings as the 6gb version should do max settings or even a bit 1440p gaming. On recent games of course. The 1050 is for mobas.

He doesn't know anything about this, he just wants a recommendation. GTX 1050 Ti will push Doom past 60 fps, one of the most well-optimized games.

regarding the games I wanted to play, I haven't decided yet, but it'd be nice if the build can run most of the popular games on Steam right now (ark, cod bo3, poe, xcom2, ori, tyranny) at high settings, 1080p 60fps.
thanks for the response!

user...

Even Xcom2 drops frame on 1080ti to 20 FPS in some situations. Xcom2 is a really badly optimized game.

Would a Ryzen 1600 bottleneck a 1080 ti?

What resolution? Ever CPU gets bottlenecked by 1080ti at 1080p. Only 7700k gets above 144 and that is not even consistent (for the newest games). On higher resolutions? The 1080ti gets bottleneck first. Either way you will have CPU or GPU bottleneck.

Okay, thanks. I plan to use it at 1080p and 4K. Anything you would suggest?

Go google benchmarks and look them up yourself. Don't trust anyone on Sup Forums because there is an AMD shill around posting doctored benchmarks. I suggest 7700k if you are going 4k.

Okay, I'll do that. Thanks again.

>I suggest 7700k if you are going 4k.
Not him but why? A higher resolution makes the processor choice not that important.

lanoc.org/review/cpus/7478-intel-i7-7700k-vs-amd-ryzen-r7-1700-in-gaming?showall=1

There will come a day when 1080ti will get bottlenecked as well. Unless gaming development changes as rapidly as the 1080ti declines, the 7700k is still superior to the 1700x.

Good goy

>muh shill boogeyman

Sure thing corelet

The 1050ti is barely better then the 1050 - either get the 1050 or get a 1060.

There is no reason for the tis exsistence since its usually 40-50 more then the regular card.

I got my 1050(regular) for 60$ after rebate.

Cool game there friendo

Like clockwork

So why shouldn't I do a build as follows:

- Ryzen 1600
- B350 motherboard
- 8GB DDR4 @ 3000mhz
- gtx 1050(weak but I will upgrade later, maybe BF as I recently bought it)
- SSD + HDD storage

Is there any downside?

I thought about a cheapy G4650 build but the LGA 1151 is dead and if I ever wanted to upgrade I would be stuck with what ever used i5s/i9s existed instead of the newer processors.

>pcpartpicker.com/user/horsejumper/saved/mCYsYJ

My build is 550...

You didn't specify a price range, so I went with a build I had put together for the Ryzen 5 1600.

This build has 16GB 3200mhz, a GTX 1060 6GB card that you will not have to replace for several years.

A single SDD that would incorporate the total money you would spend on both and HDD + smaller SSD

Ryzen 1700, no bottleneck.

>MSI B350 Mate on every build, even on $2000
Really nigga? The B350s Asus Prime Plus and ASRock Pro4 are better value, honestly at this point just get a X370, 99% of those are guaranteed to be of good quality and have more features than B350s boards.

Any suggestions on what to upgrade?

SSD

WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL THE 570'S

FUCKING CRYPTOCUNTS AHHHHHH

At this point get a new PC, the only thing you can improve there is maybe the graphics card (even a 1060 6GB won't be bottlenecked as long as you OC your CPU a bit) and add an SSD for faster booting and loading times (I recommend at least 240GB since they last more and have better speeds, Samsung 850 EVO and PNY are good).

>games
this is Sup Forums not Sup Forums

>M E G A Tasking
better get an atx S U P E R Tower for that

Please someone recommend me a monitor they use that's relatively new, 1080p, 21-25 inch range and under 160 USD.

Would you rather have 120hz monitor or an IPS?

Well here is a 23" 1080p75 IPS for $150.

>Well here is a..
??

I've seen some IPS monitors and someone in one of these threads say that the modern ones in that price range have backlight problems (it bleeds through). I'd rather have a TN panel if that is REALLY the case.

My bad, and that monitor was also above $160.

Here's my suggestion pcpartpicker.com/product/Bk648d/dell-monitor-se2416h

Any suggestions for updating?

Mostly used for gaming (Dota 2 and Overwatch, emulation). Lots of new games on the horizon have me excited as well, want to upgrade to play those too (some of which are Metro Exodus, Sea of Thieves, Monster Hunter, want to play Nier: A soon).

Not sure about a budget yet since I am between jobs (interning). Thanks!

Okay, here we go again. Budget PC since i'm poor as fuck but i need it before July.
Purpose: gaming (also, some editing)
Country: Yurop (Spain)

1080 60hz 5ms 21.5" Samsung monitor, I did not buy it, it was a gift 'cause it had a scratch (almost unnoticeable)

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor €205
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard €112.50
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory €80
Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ( Reuse, I'll buy an SSD as soon as i see a discounted one)
Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GT OCV1 Video Card 283 €
Case: Zalman - Z3 ATX Mid Tower Case 40€
Power Supply: SeaSonic - S12II 520W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply 66€

tips? do i need to change smth? stock cooler?

Thank you for your help. This is what you use?

forgot to mention,

>USA

Why wouldn't you get the Ryzen 1600? You're not paying much more and you get two extra cores.

also been wanting to buy a cheap IPS. Currently I'm looking at LG 25" LED 25UM58-P

>zalman case
Get something nicer for yourself. If you wanna cheap out on the case then go Aerocool the ones with the shrowd for PSU or Deepcool, either the Tesseract/Dukase

>25UM58-P

dats ultra-wide man

I don't think it's worth it. Most UIs (for gayming) support 16:9 and not 21:9. Spoken from a guy whos been using a 4:3 monitor for 10 years lol.

I'd suggest picking up a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB video card. The rest of your machine will last several more years.

I'd suggest this build uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/rjxTgL

No sir. I selected because Dell makes quality monitors, this is also an IPS which looks considerably better than a TN model.

My bad, I used Pounds as the currency, this is now fixed for Spain:

es.pcpartpicker.com/list/khpDsJ

Ryzen 5 1600 +20€ (226€). worth the 20€?

Corsair Carbide 200R 70€ ?
deepcool cases are hard to find in my country

ty for the replies

ahh okay. good thing I posted here.

EHhh come to think of it I had the wrong idea. Gayms support widescreen over standard and 21:9 is a widescreen res. I was thinking of specific games and mods out there who for some reason might not support 21:9. Probably far and few in between.

Still you probably have to have a higher end card for gayming on those resolutions.
