>Verdict: The Surface Laptop is not a laptop. It’s a glue-filled monstrosity. There is nothing about it that is upgradable or long-lasting, and it literally can’t be opened without destroying it. (Show us the procedure, Microsoft, we’d love to be wrong.)

>This laptop is not meant to be opened or repaired; you can’t get inside without inflicting a lot of damage.
>The CPU, RAM, and onboard storage are soldered to the motherboard, making upgrades a no-go.
>The headphone jack, while modular, can only be accessed by removing the heat sink, fan, display, and motherboard.
>The battery is difficult and dangerous to replace, giving the device a limited lifespan.
>0/10 score

SURFACEFAGS ON SUICIDE WATCH!

Why are they even complaining?
This is the norm now.

You can't take your shit apart without destroying it and voiding your warranty at the same time.
You can't even install linux on a new laptop without voiding the warranty.
And future amendments to copyright law will prevent you from making changes to products you purchase.

Anyone who thinks this isn't just a macbook rip off is a pajeet or got memed. The fact it has Microsoft on it doesn't mean anything, it's 2017 and Microsoft sucks.

Had this been some no name chink brand no one would even take notice. It's a macbook rip off.

>it's 2017 and Micro$oft still sucks.

Ftfy

>Why are they even complaining?
>This is the norm now.
Because it shouldn't be. Someone needs to say something against this. Sure, they can't change a thing about it, but at least they are trying, who knows. Also, I don't get it how Microsoft can't see the opportunity here. Why create an even less repairable shit machine than a Macbook when they could have built a sleek looking, reasonably accessible machine that actually offers selling points over a Macbook. But it absolutely doesn't, a Macbook Pro is better than this piece of shit in every way.

>Because it shouldn't be
But it is, and the number of people who service their own laptops is so tiny that manufacturers will never care

soon this kind of shit will be illegal

>And future amendments to copyright law will prevent you from making changes to products you purchase.
didn't that part of the DMCA get struck down or am I missing something

so do you buy a house that's garbage because you don't intend to fix it yourself? same with your car? nice logic.

Holy fuck, didn't even notice, you can't even replace the battery period? Yet they advertise this as the laptop to get over the old macbooks. This is literal chinkshit.

After 2 years when the battery dies you are cucked. Fucking Microsoft wow. I told people this was going to be worse than the macbooks even if the horsepower looked better, because they probably skimped out on design and SSD. And the macbooks they are trying to compete with are the old macbook models anyway, not even the new shit. Can't even come up with a better budget laptop years after macbooks have already been around.

Just wow.

The people buying these and apple machines don't care about repair, they just buy another one. They only care that it's thinner than the last one they bought. Fuck em

>implying surfacefags exist
Even if they exist i don't think they would accept another Surface RT

/thread

a lot of people do. less than 10% of the cars on the road today don't get looked after by their consumers

The problem is that these people determine what goods get produced, and those of us who know better still have to live with their tastes.

>This is the norm now.
My laptop has complete disassembly instructions available online direct from the manufacturer and for complete disassembly you only need a screwdriver.

t. Lenovo customer

mobile electronics died when replaceable batteries stopped being a thing

We've finally arrived. Laptops are now a truly disposable item.

Pity morons keep paying premium prices for this shit.

Between this and cryptocurrencies id love to know where all these people get their disposable income.

>Chinese spyware in firmware
Included for no extra charge

pay day loans and student loans

This and the fact you can finance almost anything now.

>tfw you realize the only reason people want upgradeable laptops is to save money on a better hard drive or ram

also helps if you can replace broken shit, because hard drives and batteries have such a high failure rate relative to other components

>>The headphone jack, while modular, can only be accessed by removing the heat sink, fan, display, and motherboard.
holy fucking shit microsoft

Even macs aren't nearly this bad.
Glued fabric makes it impossible to even replace the battery.
Power and power consumption improvements are platforming harder than ever, this is a legit problem.

At least it has a headphone jack, unlike Crapple.

Except for ThinkPads. And the number of people that attempt their own repairs and upgrades is going up and will continue, especially with the rise of Maker garbage

Isn't capitalism just great?

every Apple laptop has a headphone jack

maker culture is already dead and buried
it was a dumb fad, like 3d printers

Nothing is wrong with capitalism, but corporatism sucks
>why be the victim of consumer trends when I can just brainwash the consumer
>while I'm at it I'll just buy off everyone in any anti-trust council

I think you'll find there is a legit reason for some of this. Like, airplanes and other secure areas. Yes, people like thinner and lighter... But other people and agencies like the fact you cannot open these devices without visible damage, and no place to hide contraband inside the machine. Turn it on, you're clear. Proceed. This is a global market we're talking about here, USA is not the only consideration.

Do you really think that people who buy this laptop give a shit about repairability?

>(((copyright law)))
I wonder if we never see aliens because they see how copyright lasts after the death of the author and they recognize how this means our culture is stuck in the gutter even compared to lowly races.

Nah, capitalism is trash and hopefully falls apart soon. It requires everyone to work which requires huge numbers of things to be produced. Of course you end up with shitty business practices if you have to sell this many fucking stuff.

Capitalism fell apart in the 1930s, and had to be rescued by the state, globally. Hitler found the right policy, state directed capitalism, and the rest of the world copied it (including soviet russia) to beat him.

kek

Capitalism is why you are sitting in a relatively nice place entertaining yourself on a technological marvel. If we were in a communist society, we'd be using 1970s technology and sitting in concrete cubes. Seriously. Your computer would look like Atari, your car would be a Volga, and your TV would be a thousand pound chunk of shit on rabbit ears.

>payday loans for an expensive fucking laptop
this is some advanced poorfag tactics. No wonder poor people stay poor.

I'm not saying that it's not the best we have right now because it is, but that doesn't make it not shit.

>this is some advanced poorfag tactics. No wonder poor people stay poor.
No shit. People never heard of credit cards. Or cash for that matter. I was stupid enough to use Dell credit back around Y2K, never again.

They substituted the fat lady!!!

Its only shit when people want more than they can hack. People see all these amazing things, like phones and cars and cable, but they don't live within their means. Add up the monthly payments of all that cool shit, and its hard to afford. But just a generation ago, most people just had a mortgage, maybe a car payment. Now we have all these additional bills, which they call "disposable income", but the living wage hasn't really gone up. That makes normal earners jealous and pissed because they're exposed to all these amazing items and have to cut corners to include them in their lifestyle. Simply put, many people have to learn they can't have every thing they see.
