Systemd thread

So what's the problem with systemd Sup Forums?

There isn't one.

Apparently the main project leader is a german-guatemalan sjw faggot pushing for all his leftie bullshit onto the FOSS community, plus systemd is said to be a botnet plus people claim the systemd design goes against the UNIX philosophy.

It seems to be the target of a persistent fud campaign.

Systemd, lets begin.
The code is so long it will take years to read it.
The code is so obfuscated it will be imposibru to read.
Systemd takes so many parts of the system, so the attack surface is very big.
I dont know what other things we can add, developed by redhat, while redhat work together with the NSA.

Muh unix philophy.
GNU's NOT UNIX

Wow. If it takes years to read it, imagine how long it took to write it.

scope creep
code base growing to fast for auditing
all major distros switched practically over night

It's basically a bucket full of filth and red flags.

Auditing software for vulnerabilities takes more time that it takes to draft software, desu.

Poettering is more autistic than Sup Forums and anons are jelly

Yes it is faggot.

wow I hate systemd now.

I miss watching all the [OK] in openrc sometimes.

Does that count as a problem with systemd?
It boots too fast.

there's no problem with systemd

OP is asking problems.
Stop talking good things about systemd, let's just ignore the good parts.

That it exists.

This picture explains systemd better than anything.

...

(Start job is running for network interfaces or sum shiet [9000m 69s])

It adds 1min30 to my shutdown time because it will fuck up some stupid task and be smug about it.

are you claiming foss software wasn't already pretty leftist, I mean it's essentially communism, not that that's a bad thing.

>The code is so long it will take years to read it.
this but otherwise it's fine

not an argument

lrn2 configure you are system properly

It's poetterware.

It's a shitty implementation of a good idea conceived by Sun and later ported by Apple.

The problem with it is that the developers don't understand basic standards and continuously break them, causing breakage just about everywhere. Also it's cute to see them beg for people not to assign CVEs.

Other than that, i don't have a problem with systemd because I don't use Linux so it's funny to see people cry about it when there are alternatives

> lrn2 configure you are system properly

But desu, my system was properly configured until dist-upgrade planted the poettering poo. It just barged in and broke my system (it also failed to bring up a BT adapter).

Reverting to sysv fixed this shit luckily.

You all hybrid humans are really brainlets. You're a shame for your own race.

...

I don't know. My distro switched to systemd and I didn't notice any difference. Seems to run fine.

So why doesn't someone make a systemd light with all the good parts and none of the bad instead of making a systemd hate thread #93093450943509835092358471?

The only difference I noticed was that I type "systemctl" instead of "service".

Look @ DNS Resolver.

>b-but you can change it
How many millenials will do that

So what should i switch to, to get off the SysD botnet?

It "fixed" things which did not need fixing and supplanted many well-understood components for no real reason. The original rationale behind it (fast booting) is already obsolete by microservice containers for scaleouts and now serverless code.

in the meantime a huge new unaudited vector sits between kernel and OS with hooks into all security systems and a nice obfuscated logging scheme to boot.

Linus is a shill for commercial distros and on the payroll.

>Look @ DNS Resolver.
systemd is dnsresolving to the jewish nsa, i blame millenials
>citation still needed

There is literally no problem with systemd. It is open-sourced and isn't out of the user's control.

There's nothing wrong with systemd

>we love syndrome D.

what should i be using?

Everything

>communism, not that that's a bad thing
Just a couple of genocides, nothing really bad. What are a hundred mullion dead people anyway.

Also FOSS and communism are fundamentally incompatible, as communism can only exists under an authoritarian rule with basically no freedom, where the government takes complete control over all software.
And the Idea that a person should have the right to create its own software to compete with the government can obviously not be legal in a communist system.

It is also pretty funny that the capitalist US is considering building a wall to keep people OUT of their hellish exploitative system of slavery and that communist eastern Germany had to build a wall to keep people INSIDE their glorious system of freedom and justice.
That should tell you literally everything you need to know about communism.

>Just a couple of genocides, nothing really bad
no that was, and still is to this day, capitalism

Are you retarded?
Maybe open a history book and read up about the USSR and China.

And when did modern day capitalism commit genocides on the scale of the USSR?

>some dude which i won't name apparently has some shit opinions which i wont mention or discuss in any way

fuck off retard

>Are you retarded?
>Maybe open a history book and read up about the USSR and China.
>And when did modern day capitalism commit genocides on the scale of the USSR?

Actually youre retarded and biased. You are counting famines and disease as genocide. If thats within the rules, 25 million natives were genocided in Mexico alone in the 1500s alone. protip, it wasnt by communists

youre also using fallacious arguments. just because a communist regime committed a genocide doesnt mean all communists commit genocide.

it's literally everything

I hope you are baiting

Is there any proof it's "a botnet"? Because I hear this bullshit about absolutely everything in Sup Forums and no one ever provides proof to back it up.

>not that that's a bad thing.

TOP
FUCKING
KEK
People getting shot, put in gulags, starving to death... n-not that it's a bad thing, r-right?

this desu senpai
Communism will never, ever, exist without a tyrannical state. FOSS is much more compatible with libertarianism and other forms of anarchism. Definitely NOT communism.

>People getting shot, put in gulags, starving to death... n-not that it's a bad thing, r-right?

lets see
the country that currently shoots the most people?
the country with the largest prison population?
the countries whose economic fraud has caused worldwide starvations?

protip; not communist and definitely capitalist

Venezuela?

>You are counting famines and disease as genocide.
No, I count starving people in hard labour camps as genocide.

The famines are also partially self inflicted, because their "collective farms" didn't work.

>25 million natives were genocided in Mexico alone in the 1500s alone. protip, it wasnt by communists
Are you seriously saying that modern day democratic capitalism and a hundreds of year old feudal monarchy are the same system?
Protip, they are not the same thing. This has literally nothing to do with the point.

> just because a communist regime committed a genocide doesnt mean all communists commit genocide.
Is that your standard for a good system "Genocides don't always happen"?
Are you fucking retarded, you can defend almost everything with that argument: National socialism? "just because a natsoc regime gassed millions of jews doesn't mean all natsoc regimes will gas the jews".
"Not all X" has never been a good argument for ANYTHING.

>>>OpenRC

actually its more like socialism

it seems lke pretty much every high level GNU/Linux contributor says SysD hasmore positives than negatives and I trust those people's opinions more than those of random Sup Forumstards who can barely write fizzbuzz in python

The only people that object systemd are bsdlosers pretending to be linux masterrace

This. There are dozens of problems, all discussed ad nauseam over the past decade.

>main project leader is a german-guatemalan sjw faggot
this

he breaks the devel branch every other week

...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_platform_effect

Written by a know-nothing millennial faggot employed by the distro who has the DoD as a customer and whose previous creation (pulseaudio) broke audio on Linux for years.

Yes, let's have an (((init))) system which produces binary-format log files for the sake of slightly faster boot times. Jesus Christ. There are many things I consider to be important in my choice of OS for doing serious work and FAST BOOT TIMES is not on that list.

...

>binary-format log files
Literally nothing wrong with that.

Oh no scary binary logs!
You can use whatever fucking logger you want, binary logs are just better.

...

how are binary logs better?

t. millenial retard

>binary logs are bad
But why?
>hurr durr

USA, dummy.

No, UNATCO.

...

Based.

FOSS software is not a communism. It's an instrument made to fight mainly Microsoft and Windows.

When the beast is gone, GPL is no more needed.

no better than logs any program can read and search through

Things to Google:
>eudev
>elogind

if someone makes an ejournald I'd probably use it, because "binary logs" are to systemd what "lewinsky" is to Hillary Clinton - completely irrelevant and completely overshadowing the real problems

FOSS is leftist but it is completely anti-authoritarian. It's libertarian. It's saying NO GODS NO KINGS ONLY MEN, the only person that has the right to control the code you run is yourself.
Now what if you give your code to someone else? They also have the right to control code they run.

Dude its instant under 100% cpu load from encoding vp8.

Let me see you do that with text logs faggot.

its instant with text logs on my machine

then again i installed logrotate because I don't half ass things, so

No it isn't, you can't do that with log rotate.

I don't even know why you would bring that tool up because it isn't even relevant to the discussion.

Just kidding, I know why.

you don't use logrotate to search the logs you absolute fucking retard

you use logrotate to make the log file you do search smaller, because you don't need to keep all logs from the beginning of time in one file, binary or not

kys

So it's still irrelevant.

you know maybe linux isn't for you, you should probably go back to macs

Pretty much guaranteed to make people think you are a fucking moron with your pathetic arguments dude.

Not that its really fair picking on people that bash systemd. They are usually incompetent Linux users.

How is that relevant to searching logs, again?

I'm on Sup Forums, I'm smarter than everyone else in the thread by default

I have a better argument but I'm going to need you to post some proof of knowledge first because I don't think you'll be able to understand it

I'll make it easy. Show me Fizzbuzz. You pick the language.

>2017
>literally fails at DNSSEC validation
>has DNSSEC validation enabled by default even though the feature is broken

Time is up, you failed the test. I'm going to bed now.

SYSTEMDKEKS BTFO BY ONE BRAVE user

It's the fucking dev branch retard

wtf

It's not systemd that fucks this task up. All it does is send a kill signal and wait. With sysv, the frozen program would be terminated immediately, systemd tries to let it take the time to finish properly before doing that.

Oh hell yeah I'm all in on systemd now

Probably OpenRC

>it's not systemd that fucks this task up
>systemd tries to let it take the time to finish properly before doing that

lol
