If you want help: >State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA). >List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate. >Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
CPUs: >G4560 - Budget builds (R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU >R5 1500x - All you really need for 60fps with power to spare; Don’t get an i5. >R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC >i7 7700k - Bad value but great at 144hz gaming >R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.
GPUs: >Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games >RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games >RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz. >RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can. >GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high >GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p. >GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one. >AMD GPUs are suffering a lack of stock and Nvidia a rise in price thanks to e-currency miners
General: >ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS! >Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later >NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
You're not going to get any major savings from there without sacrificing quality or performance.
Justin Sanders
What should I look for in a 4k monitor and how much should I expect it to run?
Juan Murphy
Posting on behalf of the ryzen master race.
Owen Watson
Look for below 5ms response time, freesync or gsync depending on what brand of gpu you're using, and that's about it. High refresh rate 4k gaming is like impossible.
Average price is $300-500
Thomas Gonzalez
you're wasting hundreds of $ for that ~4% performance increase over overclocking on r5 1600 and b350 board. this isn't intel, you don't an AIO and overpriced mobo to overclock. that case is not only ugly but also big as fuck, mid tower is enough. go for 500gb ssd with that budget
fuck off. hdds are still viable. no reason to not have one just for storage (yes you can have more than just csgo and chrome), unless you really like wasting your money.
>dont get the 1080ti. Just get an rx580 and/or wait for Vega. are you retarded? 1080ti is more than double the performance of rx580, which you can't even fucking buy currently. vega's release is still more than a month away and IT WONT BE FUCKING AVAILABLE IN STOCK TILL AT LEAST SEPTEMBER. thanks miners
This is for high-end gaming, Photoshop and video editing. How do I subsidize costs without losing build quality?
David Jenkins
Should I wait for the Vega promised land, or drop on a 1080 now?
Jackson Ramirez
user please
Josiah Watson
Yah I forgot to switch it back to the 400c, I was looking at different cases.
I rather spend the extra $$$ on the aio and the board seemed to be the best choice for looks and performance. What would you suggest for a board?
Michael Cox
>that build >almost $1800 >canuckland Solid build. See if you can get cheaper RAM, maybe LPX 3000 CL15 or Ripjaws V 3200 CL16, idk about canuck prices. Toshiba P300 is better than WD Blue, compare prices. SSD and GPU should be best value. For the case you could get something cheaper like the Deepcool Tesseract. Other than that you're good to go.
>board seemed to be the best choice for looks and performance K5 is trash. AIO is overpriced, loud garbage. NH-D15 SE does an equally good job but doesn't sound like a tubine >Corsair CXM Enjoy your housefire, you've earned it.
Andrew Jackson
pcpartpicker.com/list/VMhbHN I already own the cooler, graphics card, and PSU from my current build. Thoughts on the combination of RAM, CPU, and mobo as an upgrade from an i5-4570?
Luke Phillips
Alright, I see if I can find those at cheaper prices. If not, then the build seems like it's good to go and I'll bite the bullet.
Fuck Trudeau for fucking up the conversion rate.
Nolan Edwards
Also, which is the 1TB variant the same price as the 3TB variant?
Jayden Collins
Never, ever, ever buy used legacy cards.
Esp. Nvidia ones.
Kevin Jones
Repost from the second thread
So I just had my first boot and I get no display and it keeps rebooting every 10 secs or so.
Did some googling and I tried eveything. Only running the cpu and psu, cpu + psu + 1 ram stick, tried cpu + psu outside of the case. I am at a loss. Is it just my psu/mb being defect?
Pic related, everything but the cpu and psu is connected, but still has the restart problem.
Nathan Ward
If you end up wanting one, I'll sell you my old one for 50 bucks. Gigabyte. I'd have to go home to see if I have the original packaging, but right now it's sitting in the padded anti-static bag that my new 480 came in.
Easton Walker
Oh ok, I see in the OP the GTX 1060 can max out games at 60hz, but what about 144?
Dominic Peterson
Heavily depends on the game and settings.
Eli Morales
if you mean aaa games then 1080ti can max out 1080p144fps if you mean comp games like csgo, lol, dota, overwatch and other garbage then rx570/gtx1050ti can do that
Jayden Ross
Price on the 1TB is wrong, don't always trust PCP prices.
Clear CMOS? Also.. is there a hinge on the first PCIe slot missing, wtf?
Cameron Johnson
I would feel bad pressuring you into it though: I just keep it around in case my current card ever craps out. Was thinking of donating it to a local tech charity anyway. The 2GB of VRAM is noticeable if gaming is what you have in mind.
Christian Nelson
I think Siege and Nier might be the most intensive games I play right now, most of it is compshit
Jose Rogers
It is, thanks though
Jose Morales
Specs for the Corsair 200r says max cpu cooler height is 165mm. If I get a Noctua D15 or U14 that are 165mm tall, will I not be able to close the case or do they leave some wiggle room in the specs?
Otherwise I'll have to settle for a U12 or Cryorig H7 it seems since I don't want to air cool.
Carter Hill
Reminder that only poor people don't have case windows.
Also rate?
Christian Cox
Yeah, I'd just wait for filthy dumb miner scum to stop buying up everything if at all possible. My card has more than doubled in price since I got it last fall.
Christopher Martinez
>meh phanteks cooler >those fans >oversized psu >muh side panel >pic shot with a potato Mild autism / 10
Andrew Miller
Tried that, still the same.
I found the hinge and put it back on
Brandon Lewis
>I found the hinge and put it back on RMA it. If my mobo came with the hinge being off i'd have immediately RMA'd it. You don't know if it's a bad mobo that slipped through QC, bad transportation/packaging or a repackaged mobo from some retard who broke it.
Mason Sanchez
Whats trash about the K5?
AIO might be overpriced but from every review I've seen its not louder also it saves the cpu from quickly heating and cooling as metals don't like that. Yes the NH is nice but quite bulky and I rather more sleek look.
Jaxon Carter
all those radeons mining away in hot warehouses like tears in the rain
Aiden Price
LMAO. Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics, you HAVE to have a GPU connected and hooked up to power/the display.
It's less than half for the same fps apart from some hiccups in some open world multithreated gayms
Lincoln Rivera
Are PSUs standardized sizes? Do I have to worry about a run-of-the-mill gold PSU fitting in a microATX tower?
Likewise, is there much benefit for gaming to the Ryzen 1800x over the 1700x or the 1600? Even with multithreading, games aren't THAT parallel, are they?
Juan Lewis
There's a reason Gigabyte isn't known for their boards. Normally they have pretty shitty UEFI's, overpriced VRM's, and less features than other boards for the same price.
Easton Young
What's wrong with SP120's?
>oversized PSU
Too right pal, means that the fan never comes on since its so under stressed.
William Bailey
>is there much benefit for gaming to the Ryzen 1800x over the 1700x or the 1600 no
Jonathan Thomas
1600 and 3200 ram. This shouldn't even be a question. Unless you're on a really tight budget (in which case you should just save your money until you can afford a better system), always try to get more recent hardware, since it'll basically be supported by everything and there should be 0 comparability issues.
And the 1600 is just a really fucking good CPU.
Daniel Diaz
alright guys. I want to build a retro gaming Windows XP PC. I've tried Hyper V, and other virtualization options and just no. So I want to build a Windows XP PC specifically for gaming. Preferably with an AMD Athlon 64 processor or a variant of it (Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64 X2/etc) hit me with a good build list. Currently looking at playing need for speed underground 1 and 2, need for speed carbon, and beach head 2002, to start with.
Colton James
The significant (like 99%) majority of gold power supplies should fit perfectly fine into mATX cases, especially if they're modular (which you should certainly look for in a PSU).
I highly recommend the EVGA G3 series.
Camden Ross
>Are PSUs standardized sizes Only in 2 dimensions - PSU length can vary somewhat and be an issue in very cramped cases.
Leo Hall
>Whats trash about the K5? You buy an overpriced X370 mobo with B350 VRM. That's money out the window. If you want AIO for whatever reasons get the Kraken.
>What's wrong with SP120's? >corsair >good not totally overpriced fans Pick one. Be Quiet and Noctua both have better performing fans with better price/perf. >Too right pal, means that the fan never comes on since its so under stressed. Then get a Be Quiet or Seasonic Prime next time. Both are silent, cheaper and will run more efficient since you won't even reach 50% load. >average british woman >no hijab, niqab, trash bag over head Liar.
Parker Morales
I want to build a pc, but I don't really care for a case would anyone bother to list the pros and cons of not having one would be?
I have a shitty brepuilt hp from years ago and I slapped a gpu in. For the past 5 months I have kept the side panel off because I like how it looks. No problems so far
Carson Butler
>hit me with a good build list. Budget you nigger.
Ayden Diaz
>400$ for 1600+3200mHz ram Where do you live that it's that expensive? Should be more like 300.
Luis Torres
preferably under $200-$300 with used parts
Christian Rogers
underground works with windows 10 with mods
play a new beachhead game
Jeremiah Flores
>Not using ML fans >Aorus graphics card >Using a titanium power supply for a single CPU and GPU

Kevin Carter
Beach Head won't work on windows 10. quit being obstinate
Nolan Watson
Have any of you tried dual graphics with an APU and graphics card?
I am considering getting an A10 to dual with my R7 240 as an upgrade to cpu and grapgics power
Mason Long
>$200 for R5 1600 >around $180 for 3200 cl14 ram >shipping Nah, he's within $10
Carter Martinez
Greater dust intake. Danger of spilling shit on it. Do you have pets? Harder to move around, reposition.
Which is not to say it's vital; I've always wanted to build a wooden or plexiglass frame, and then lay out all my parts on it flat, and hang my computer up behind my desk as freakin' art, but that's a little more than I've ever gotten around to.
Eli Peterson
If you want to buy used i suggest you look at complete builds with Athlons or whatever. Actually i have such an old PC here that's still perfectly fine, i'd sell it but i'm from Germany so shipping is probably more expensive than the PC. I'd look at Athlon families, maybe Bendium :DDD, 2-4GB RAM, HDD is pointless, buy a cheap 120GB SSD (KingDian for example) and the rest.. look at the pictures and try to tell in what shape it is.
Bentley Smith
Noctua's and BeQuiet's both look gay imo.
Evan Stewart
For gaming should i be looking for a ryzen 7 1600 or a ryzen 5 ????
>$180 for 3200 cl14 ram For 8GB? Or does Ryzen need 16 more than the 2500k for some reason?
Ethan Baker
I mean I was just thinking of screwing it on a square piece of wood with some metal risers like a test bench so I don't know how that would make moving harder.
Ian James
1500x, 1600 or 1600x depending on your budget.
Bentley Torres
Oh, I thought you meant literally leave the different pieces lying around.
Both are doable.
Jaxon Anderson
So, I should fear dropping down to Ryzen 5?
Carson Long
The only new parts I planned was a case (Azza Sirius) and possible a HDD/SSD if I could get them to work. The processor is so easy to find. Like under $5 on ebay. Found an ATI Radeon 9800 XT GPU on ebay for $45 ($58 including shipping). Beyond that, tracking down compatible parts seems to be a pain.
Ian Ross
*shouldn't, I mean.
Cameron Robinson
Yea it makes no sense to get anything below a 1600 desu You save what? 30$? Unless you go with a 1400 but it's crippled of l3
Julian Jenkins
R5 1600x seems the spot then; 4ghz and pretty comfy pricepoint.
Daniel Wilson
Oh makes sense, I would go with that over the old i5 build any day.
Brody Kelly
1500x makes no sense with 20$ price difference
Dylan Miller
But 1600 is Ryzen 5. So yes to both.
Logan Ward
They shit on Corsair fans though, especially Noctuas.
Ryzen 5 1600 is what you want.
>compatible parts Well, if you can buy the CPU and GPU (what port is it anyways, APG?) a HSF shouldn't be a problem i think and DDR2/3 you should be able to get for $20-50. I can buy it here in EU for 15-60€.
Justin King
NO, the 1600x doesnt' come with a cooler, so you're looking at AT LEAST 80$ more than a 1500x
1600 or 1700 all the way, they overclock the same -+10% anyway their X counterparts
Deciding whether or not upgrades are needed, mobo is Asus Maxiumus VII Ranger, hitting temps of 60-70c under load. Any chance of that causing problems or should that temp be sustainable without hurting the lifespan?
Joshua Cruz
T>he Xs are factory overclocked higher and don't come with a cooler bc "for OCers" so they expect you to use an aftermarket one
Also rumoured to be slightly better bin
Yea no shit u need to OC them youself, but they all come multiplier unlocked so it takes 2 minutes
Jaxson Wood
Should I even bother with m.2 if I'm just going to be gaming and maybe streaming?
Kayden Russell
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
Rephrase your question, that's like asking "should I even bother with pci-e?"
Jonathan Myers
>3570k running at like 100C under load for like 3 years >read something on Sup Forums today >drop the PLL voltage a little >now runs in the high 80's
I feel like a retard for the fix being so simple.
Carson Turner
>set GPU and CPU fans to a constant speed >disable case fans >run stress tests >wait a bit >take temperature readings >set case fans to 100% >repeat test >temps are like 1-2C lower
Why do people spend so much money on case fans?
Brandon Cruz
Well there isn't much that uses that form factor besides NVMe's, so I thought it was obvious what I meant.
I'm leaning on no because neither productivity or scratch disks really apply to me and VMs are just something I might dick around in for fun.
Oliver Robinson
well it's summer so they're way less important, also you might have set em up incorrectly with airflow all over the place.
Camden King
Are you running that in your desk drawer or why is it so hot in the first place?
Cooper Lewis
There a more parts than can get hot in a pc besides a GPU or CPU
Christian Parker
Sauce on that pic.
Michael King
NZXT 410 with two 120mm intakes in the front, one 120mm exhaust in the rear, and two 140mm exhausts in the roof. Using a non-reference 1080Ti which exhausts into the case, and a tower air-cooler for the CPU.
Any I should really care about?
Brandon Reed
Want to build mini itx work station but need it to be super quite. I was gonna put it in a Dan a4 case but I'm open to any mini itx case that can be bolted up to the vesa mounts behind a monitor. I'm going with ryzen CPU and am looking for the quitest smallest workstation card out there. Help me guys.
Aiden Miller
if that guy who wants to play beach head is still around I found a game that might work instead
with a Ryzen 5 1600 + rx580 can I play games at 4K even at low to mid settings at 60fps? what about blizzard games?
Cameron Gomez
Nah it's in a good case with an NHD14, I just got a really shit chip and need like 1.33V to be able to run 4.5ghz stable.
Christian Smith
Also what's your guys' thoughts on programming on a big 4k screen rather than 2-3 full HD ones?
Jordan Parker
>Ryzen >ITX Your only choice is Biostar. We are still waiting for ITX mobos. I'd suggest going for mATX HTPC that you can place behind your monitor on beneath it. Fractal Design Node is a good case and Silverstone has good options, too. Also keep in mind that you will need a GPU with Ryzen. Unless you plan on doing CAD or other graphic intense work you could throw a GTX1050(Ti) or RX550/560 low profile in there.
>rx580 can I play games at 4K even at low to mid settings at 60fps? I seriously doubt that and good luck finding a RX580.
Owen Anderson
Can someone give me a good list for around 1500 dollars. Primarily for vr.
