sometimes im confused when foreigners say 'asian' whether it is implying indian or mongoloid.

They mean east or SE asian. I tend to specify when i mean SE, but this isnt necessarily common practice.
i'll say south asian if I can't tell if someone is indian, paki, or bangladeshi - usually can though.

in usa there really isn't much difference between people from all across asia except maybe cambodia so it doesn't matter. also all asians from india to korea to indonesia have micropenises so it isn't too big a deal

typically when asking for race in the US, Asian is taken to mean Indian, SE, or East Asian because all of their diaspora have roughly the similar political and socioeconomic dynamic

sometimes applications will allow choosing separate east asian or indian asian categories
