The X299 VRM Disaster

TL;DR any and all X299 motherboards seem to suck. Specifically the VRMs and they non existent cooling.

>TL;DR any and all X299 motherboards seem to suck.

And yet it's one person reporting a problem.

But let me remind you, when the same thing happened (one person) with the RX 480 killing motherboards, you were quick to point out that it was only one case and totally nothing wrong with AMD.

So does the road go both ways, or is it just okay when AMD does it?

>you were quick to point out
Absolutely not. That was a fucking blunder and a half, and it was great it was reported.
Clearly someone needs to say something, so these things can be fixed.
Not everyone here is a partisan fucking 12yo

You think Der Bauer is shilling?
Because I think he's just trying to go to work.
For the store. That sells X299 motherboards.

Alternative Fact news: The video

Someone should make a compendium of all the failures that came along with the shitfest called Skylake-X platform. I feel like every week there's been a new blow to this disaster of a release.

How much does Intel pay you for posts like these?

>that hair
we still live in the 90s early 00s?

>How much does Intel pay you for posts like these?

i'm kinda convinced Brian is shitposting on his own right here, right now.

Yes miss pink and blue pixie cut, some of us still have normal hair.

t. skinny as fuck nerd with 2 liters gel in his hair

lmao

t.obese transgirl with hair belonging in a insane asylum

>a fucking peacock hairstyle
lmao

hahaha holy shit you faggot
>seem to suck

>vrm hititing 125c
>motherboards shipped with useless vrm heatsinks at best
>heat insulators at worst
>PSU cable at risk of fire in a case
>MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS all guilty of shipping their $300 boards with out testing them at all
Yep. They sure "seem to suck"

...

Fuck, that's way faster than my 4ghz ryzen

If you're into suicide runs then I guess it's okay.
Ryzen can't OC that much though, and considering what I've seen of overclocking 10+ cores I don't think I'd want to overclock it

Look at the maximum temps though. 110c, and the package hit the thermal limit so you know the bastard was throttling.

Is x299 salvageable if they just reduce the all core turbo frequency? Having all 8/10 cores slamming 4ghz is what's kill this thing.

Although faggot in the youtube video seems to think no one won't overclock, or even ignoring even reasonable overclocks, there are frequencies below 4.5ghz no matter what intel wants you to believe.

Well I wanted to link it without too much loaded language in the post.
I'm not here to have a flame war, just to be knowledgeable about hardwae.

Fuck off you fucking peace loving hippie

Well those are core temps
The OP is about power infrastructure

No. No I will not

Don't mind them, unlike tumblr this site is filled with hateful, racist ppl friend.
I come here to enlighten them but sometimes I wonder if it's a lost cause

>he doesn't know
This dude OCs and sells OCed systems for a living, he has multiple OC world records. Not exactly someone I'd disbelieve for even a second. He designed the fucking Skylake-X delid tool, for fucks sake.

And you know he's not being paid by AMD how??

...

AMD doesn't design the fucking X299 VRMs and AMD most certainly doesn't fucking make the housefire abortions that are Skylake-X that draw far too much fucking current.

Intel literally gives this guy free CPUs and motherboards to fuck around with.

They changed the L2/L3 cache layout so it flat out loses in some workloads, so keeping it at stock or downclocking it will probably not make it worth the money anyway.

>A challenger appears

fujitsu.com/global/about/resources/news/press-releases/2013/0207-05.html

Yeah the L3 was turned into victim cache right?
Isn't that what AMD does too these days?
As far as I understand it's great for some types of work, but in others it's completely useless.

Yes, L3 is now victim, but it's MUCH smaller.

>110C
>1
>0
>C

Literally ex dee

Reminds me of the X79 boards. Manufacturers just slapped on crappy heatsinks and called it a day. Or in the case of Gigabyte (shoddy af, gl with your RMAs), there was no VRM cooling. The lack of adequate cooling with an OCed chip = 100 degrees.

It's weird
I seem to remember Gigabyte's VRM heatsinks being quite good in the days of P67 and Z77

PLEASE STOP

Intel cpus can handle 110C unlike your rypoo cpoos

>hateful, racist ppl
I can deal with that. It's the partisan truth deniers with their brand loyalty and damage control that get me.

The bastards made all the new boards charcoal black so you cannot even find and diagnose or replace burned components

>MELTING SOLDER AND THE VRM WITH NO SURVIVORS
Hahahahahaha.

These junk abortions are worse than bulldozer beyond infinity.

Would you want yours to do so though?

Daily reminder that Intel literally created the worthy successor of the nuclear disaster formerly know as PowerPC 970

"The 230A we saw during our overclocking tests prompted us to add a fan to the motherboard. "
tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-7900x-skylake-x,5092-10.html
They don't draw much attention to it, but Tom's Hardware does mention the problem as well.

And it's all down to motherfucking mayonnaise
Mayo! Tooth paste!?
The fuck is wrong with these people?

...

I found a fix!

more proof of their suckage at Ryzen 350/370 boards

>Hey let's starve the memory controller so 50% of RAMs won't post and simultaneously shock the processor with dangerous voltage for goot times

At this rate we're going to end up with mieral oil submerged builds only.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO ACTUAL HEATSINKS

The "Gamer" aesthetic happened.

Gamer cancer.

>a tranny who has to have the last word on the internet
Well chop off my dick and call me Chelsea, now I've seen everything

>led ram
>led vrm
>led backplate
>led capacitor
>led mosfet
>led socket
>led pci-e
>led sata
>led audio jacks

"We want the Razer audience"

Civilian > Mlitary grade > PTSD heatsinks

>one or two boards die with 480s
>EVERY SINGLE X299 HAS PROBLEMS

These two things are the same.

They weren't cancer or cost cutting enough

AMD make 5800 series, Nvidia housefire 400 series
AMD make Ryzen, Intel housefire x299
>AMD make Vega, poor volta

Nah, Fluorinert is where it'll be at, at $1000 per 20 kilo jug of it.

LEDZ AND GAYMURZ HURR

why does that picture make feel bad about calling you a fag?
now you're an even bigger faggot god damn it

You know what the fucking problem with motherboards these days is?
Back in the 2500k days you could buy a board that looked like
and get top tier power delivery to the cpu so you could overclock as much as you wanted.
These fucking kikes caught on and gated their VRMs behind other features. So now the $100 z270 boards can't overclock for shit and you have to buy the better model with RGB leds, special painted PCB, super duper audio, kILLERNIC, etc to get good VRM.

This isn't how it should be. There should still be a budget board that lets you overclock and plug in a fucking GPU.

Fuck this crap is Supermicro the only one who doesn't do gaymer design nonsense(most of the time)

Where are they for X299? If they're coming out with a X399 mobo, that's what I'm getting
At least I know their BIOS and power circuitry will be decent.

Sold separately.

Do you think these things are cheap to make? vendors need to make money too.

Hahaha
Ok
Sorry?

He's German. The least fashionable people on the planet.

>buy overpriced intel board
>heatsinks don't work

intel what the fuck
first TIM and now this

there's no more corners to cut, intel

>no copper heatsink
Fuck off.

I really hope we'll get some toned down ones for Threadripper. But seeing as we're in the middle of the RGB craze I don't know.
Imagine having a conversation at work about getting some new hardware for productivity, and then getting called out when it looks like a laser show fit for the plane'arium.

friendly reminder that there was a 300 post thread about someone having trouble with a ryzen motherboard and there were at least 10 retards in that thread saying
>hurr just because ryzen motherboards are absolute trash doesn't mean theres anything wrong with ryzen!!
>should have bought a better board!
>6 out of the top 10 am4 boards on amazon are trash you should know this!

There is more technology packed into in my $200 Nikon camera than these shitty boards

I have no problem with my Asrock board, not my fault people bought MSI

Back when even a ROG board could look good

>motherboards then
Look funky, cheap, have fantastic power delivery

>motherboards now
PTSD/migraine inducing, shit power delivery, cost more, more plastic than a middle age porn star

Only 1 8pin, user i ....

>6 out of the top 10 am4 boards on amazon are trash you should know this!

better than 10 out of 10 desu

Why do you need to overclock? can't even cool your power cables? huh?

The common thread is MSI, ASUS, Giagbyte selling overpriced and untested motherboards

Early adopters are basically guinea pigs rather than just consumers

You are talking a $300 motherboard vs a $100-$150 one.

He's also comparing a physical problem like VRM's overheating to the MSI BIOS setting high auto voltages, which you can 'fix' by RMAing the garbage.
You're not gonna fix the VRMs or Skylake-X pulling more power than the force of your mom's ass

>Panasonic tough boards decked with plasma instead of weak LED gamer trash

It's not like you can't have the gaymer looks AND decent cooling. The real reason is cost. It's simply cheaper to slap a lump of useless metal on there, rather than a proper heatsink.

How can a company like AMD with a shit R&D budget do VRM's better than the R&D Goliath's of Intel and Nvidia?

But that looks like ass.

t. rayzer gaymer

All gaymer shit looks like ass. But that's not the point.

The molex EZ_PLUG_1, what is it for? is it just a convenient extension in case a card wants a (little) extra power?

Who the FUCK cares what it looks like? You're missing the point completely.

It's designed to feed a little more power in quad-SLI/Crossfire setups. Most boards that support that setup have some sort of power connector (though it's usually a PCIe one rather than Molex these days).

Exactly. Intel releasing this dumpster fire of a chip means that his business model may not be applicable to the series of chips. I bet he's pissed.

Considering his business is selling delided Intel processors I somehow doubt he's taking AMD money.

>Considering his business is selling delided Intel processors I somehow doubt he's taking AMD money.

It's called 5d chess

He tried delidding a Ryzen CPU and found there was basically no point, since it's soldered. lol

kitguru.net/components/cpu/matthew-wilson/overclocker-der8auer-has-already-managed-to-delid-a-ryzen-cpu-reveals-solder-tim/

yes.
