Wait for livecd link to work and for the site to come back. I made this thread a little early

should I just sudo emerge --sync to get the latest repo?

That syncs your Gentoo portage tree. It's similar to apt-get update.

So the repo is already there, but I can access the newly added stuff

The newly added stuff can be emerged. syncing is necessary when there's new versions

sounds good, can't wait to play quake3 after all these years

wget files.anitalink.com/gamecache/quake3/baseq3/pak0.pk3 -O /usr/share/games/quake3/baseq3/pak0.pk3

Daily reminder zdnet.com/article/linuxs-systemd-vulnerable-to-dns-server-attack/

Livecd up now

is there a display manager? I insstalled it on a virtual machine to test itand logging out resulted in a blank screen showing only the wallpaper.

No, .bash_profile acts as one. You can ctrl+alt+f1

try clicking to launch shit

...

I need to make clover wallpapers using that artists work. I know what character to use too.

Mona font should be preinstalled for browsing my indonesian rice farming forums

...

when can I automatically install it in an encrypted lvm?

emerge monafont

I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure you could follow wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Dm-crypt_full_disk_encryption#Preparing_disks and just give the livecd installer your partition

...

...

how do i put the livecd on a flash drive? dd doesnt seem to work

nevermind im retarded, i set of to /dev/sdx1 instead of /dev/sdx

my.mixtape.moe/ieyydu.png

Any plans to make a 32bit version? I've got an old laptop I'd like to try this on.

Why I can't reboot or logout

this is comfy

Can you post the wallpapers again?

Can someone give me a very good reason to switch to cloverOS from the Debian install I have now? No meme or shitposting answers, actual valid reasons because I've been thinking about switching to Gentoo for a while now but haven't felt like doing it for one reason or another. Also, is there any non-free wi-fi firmware for T510s in the cloverOS repos or somewhere?

- Good performance
- Gentoo is a good distro
- No systemd/pulseaudio
- Easy to build software out of the box. no -dev packages

>non-free wi-fi firmware
linux-firmware comes by default

lads are there any decent wayland WM/DE's out there?

Enlightenment
KDE

these also openrc is lighter than systemd, which is good if you are running a laptop with a shit battery.

Okay. Thanks. I think I will install cloverOS after I backup all my files. How long should it take, given that I have an i5 in my T510?

not long at all. The build script took a couple of minutes to install, especially since the liveCD doesn't have internet enabled

livecd takes a few minutes to install

installscript takes about 30min

Okay. Then In that case, I will probably be back in a few hours. Thanks m80s. Here's some anime titties for the help.

very nice, have fun nigga

So how do I install this on m2 ssd

Sway might be good when it's finished. Basically an i3 clone.

I cleaned some of the artifacts

this sort of just popped up over night didn't it?

is there a dedicated team for this?

I'd love to make this my offical linux distro, I love Sup Forums and its people so the idea of being in on a community project of a place ive been a part of for almost a decade

is this viable for daily use and even videogames?

Will it break after an update like ALL Arch flqvors?

I have it installed as a daily os. I was able to play Mount and Blade Warband and Napoleonic Wars with mod support via steam and wine.

>this sort of just popped up over night didn't it?

Pretty much. I've been using Gentoo for years and knew about the CloverOS meme, only just decided to do it 3 weeks ago.

>is there a dedicated team for this?

I integrated some input and configuration files I got from others, and there's forks floating around. Check #cloveros on Rizon. The scripts are painfully simple. Anyone can generate their own Gentoo livecd by modifying the script.

>is this viable for daily use and even videogames?

Gentoo is stable. Windows games work in Wine. There's also these:

packages.gentoo.org/categories/games-arcade

I've been maintaining my system since 2012, which CloverOS is based on.

...

I will give it a shot now and quit this out

Cheat sheet

Installing program
emerge filezilla

Upgrading system
emerge --sync
emerge -uavD world

Installing a program when emerge gives an error
emerge -uavD filezilla world
dispatch-conf
emerge -uavD filezilla world

Package isn't available
Make an issue so I can add the package. In the meantime, edit /etc/portage/make.conf and edit the following line:
EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--keep-going=y --autounmask-write=y --jobs=2 -G"
to
EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--keep-going=y --autounmask-write=y --jobs=2"
This disables the binhost and uses Portage's ebuilds for packages.

why should I use CloverOS over gentoo?

CloverOS is Gentoo

why cover the camera instead of just disconnecting it?

could just unpeel sticker if needed to camwhore

Kernel version 4.9.16? Isn't that rather old by this point?

because you'd rather change an already going system to be what you want than make a system to be what you want which goes against what gentoo is all about

sway is good now. the only thing holding me back is a good bar.

cleaned up

> (You)
>why cover the camera instead of just disconnecting it?
Cuz dubz dont lid

Not for a stable distro.

Just installed, but my computer can't boot into it. No grub or anything. Anyone else having this issue?

How easy would it be to dualboot clover with windows? I'd love to try this out but I don't want to wreck what I have now.

Just get another drive and use F12 on boot.

Laptop. So that's a nogo on dualboot without futzing with the script, huh?

BREHS

select the right boot drive in bios.

So when do we build a rice manager?

You could install it to another partition, but I don't know if grub-mkconfig will detect Windows and add it.

If it doesn't, then you'll have to do some googling. If it does, then it's ok.

I might try it right now, because I have a Windows laptop that I'm getting sick of using.

There's also another thing: The installer sets the timeout in /boot/grub/grub.cfg to 0, so you'll have to set it to 5 again.

What I did:

Booted liveusb
Manual partitioning
Resized /dev/sda4 to free 20GB
Made 20GB partition at /dev/sda5
Installed to /dev/sda5
Rebooted to livecd, ran grub-install /dev/sda5
Booted back into Windows

Now I need to get Windows boot loader to boot it.

Did that, no result.

I've made the mistake of installing winxp after installing linux once. It wasn't but so hard to get grub up and running. Getting grub to add windows should be as simple as running update-grub.

Change to BIOS boot instead of UEFI

Is it a bitch to get steam running on clover?

emerge steam-launcher

I ended up just putting in another usb stick and installed it to that

Hardcoding cpuflags in make.conf sounds like a bad idea, why not emerge cpuinfo2cpuflags and append the output to make.conf?

Those are just ./configure options as far as I know. Putting everything in just tells programs like ffmpeg to include those instruction sets. It uses detection

huh I admit I didn't know about that. Seems really strange, thanks.

how do i get wifi working?

Is this source or binary based?

Binary

Can be turned to source by editing config
