You can make something similar to Alexa that isn't based on any botnet. Snowboy (Partial botnet) will let you send them recordings of your wakeword and they'll send back a Neural Network model that you can run locally. caffe-speech-recognition with a 25 GB model lets you recognize speech quite easily.

buy a few sd cards so you can try different things and not have to start over.
1. retropie - game emulator - works with every emulator & arcade game up to N64. might want to buy a Wii u pro controller with that.
2. kodi box - install osmc & then ares prime.
3. just let your imagination run wild and build some robot stuff with simple python scripts.
