Membrane one that I've had for 6 years died today after I spilt a full mug of coffee on my desk so I might as well replace it with a mech since I've wanted one for a little while >Budget £150 but I'd rather get something cheaper if possible >Location UK >Preferred switch type Blue (clicky) >Layout ISO prefered >Form factor 60% looks nice so I'd consider one, but probably 80% since I barely use the numpad >Backlight No thanks >Previous/current keyboards Razer Arctosa (I know, gaymer keyboard, did the job for a while though)
Gavin Adams
Can't wait for my black caps to arrive so I can deck out my hhkb like this
Easton Perry
Filco Majestouch 2 TKL
Josiah Nguyen
Just get another membrane keyboard if they have lasted you like 6 years. I'm typing on a btc full size keyboard right now and I think it is on a similar level to topre. Don't see me replacing it any time soon despite the fact the key caps have yellowed quite significantly.
Isaiah Phillips
I considered that but I've typed on mech keyboards before and i love how they feel compared to membrane keyboards, only thing that stopped me from upgrading before was that I don't like spending money when the one I have works. Since it doesn't work anymore it gives me an excuse to upgrade
Adam Lewis
fight over your switch colors, plebs, while my finger muscles grow pounding away at these buckling springs
Henry Sanchez
Thanks, had a look at this one before, considering it
Asher Williams
Well I hope you get a board that is perfect for you. I personally have spend a few thousand on different keyboards yet i keep going back to rubber domes. both in the form of topre or btc with slider. I absolutely love the feel of them boards. Even the standard BTC rubber dome keyboards without silders are pretty great. They are vastly superior to cherry mx brown anyway.
Jeremiah Jackson
Woah that's fucking awesome, think I'll order a blue key set from unicomp. How is the trackball?
Camden Powell
it's pretty bad, honestly
Carter Robinson
But you don't have muscles in your fingers user, its all in the wrist.
Luke Anderson
Why aren't more of you guys shilling high quality keycaps (SA in particular)? I had no idea the difference was THIS HUGE. Wtf, this typing experience is just insane, way bigger than the transition from rubber dome to mechanical, and I haven't really heard that reiterated much in the community in general.
Brandon Roberts
>integrated trackball that's fuckin ace
Ryan Wood
Would you recommend a Unicomp buckling spring over MX Blues? I am considering buckling spring as well
Ian Johnson
So is the trackpoint on the unicomp and ibm model m13's. Buckling springs are fucking flawless though.
Brody Watson
But without legends how will you know which key you're pressing?
Jace Gomez
muscle memory. Nice p99
Ian Moore
if you want the white/grey/red set, that one is not 1976, 1976 is the one with the brown and rainbowish colors like in OP's pic.
Jackson Howard
buckling springs are in a league of its own. So yes. Try the grandaddy of keyboards.
Get a Ducky for that price. A cheaper option would be a Corsair Strafe. Cherry mx blues are superior to gateron blues. Remember.
Hunter Thomas
lol wtf happened there. That is weird.
Caleb Young
Thanks, DAS was one of the ones I was considering so I'll avoid that now Looked at Ducky's before, definitely going to go for Cherry MX blues if I get a mech. I'm keeping an eye out for IMB Model Ms because I'd really like an original one of them, but that's not as easy to find obviously
Cooper Rivera
Same user that was asking earlier on, found an old Kenesis Advantage Pro for around £80 Looks like a good deal to me, would anyone advise me against such a keyboard or should I consider going for it?
Luke Ramirez
I've heard Tai-Hao keycaps have a weird coating, is this true and how are they to use?
I want the sunshine ones.
Tyler Morales
I see that the newest Miami ones don't have the coating
Ian Anderson
before I meme myself again, is there anything better for under 50 burgers?
Alexander Peterson
is it like a filco thing to also have firearms or is it all one guy posting here
Andrew Scott
post comfy
Isaac Clark
Does anyone know a TKL or smaller keyboard that has an aluminum case, backlit(at least white LED) and has a F key row? Also preferrably white
Nicholas Parker
tada68 has it all except for the f keys, would still recommend.
Charles Kelly
I actually have a Pok3r atm and not having a f row is driving me insane. Gonna sell if/once I find a nice replacement
Nicholas Phillips
look at varmilo then, they have some nice kbs with aluminum case and f keys for the tkl variants.
Ryder Hernandez
Absolutly. Compared to MX blues on my Ducky its a night and day difference. You can get them on amazon, or if you want a custom keyboard order from Unicomp
Brody Gray
drevo excalibur
Asher Jenkins
Thanks. I'll check em out
Hudson Flores
Has anyone used this or a similar service? wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/custom-art-cherry-mx-keycaps.html I don't want to pay for expensive shipping to the UK and wait a while for them. Are there any UK based websites that have custom printing ?
Bentley Gonzalez
also YMD75, KBD75
Dylan Jenkins
I ordered from mechkeyboards and specifically ordered a ducky one tkl (NORGB) for 89$ but they sent me the RGB version instead
Is this normal for them?
Jackson Young
No, give it back.
Jacob Morales
I've always used a $25 keyboard. Which one of these do i get, lads?
Nathaniel Cook
no it sounds like they made a mistake and if you got abs keycaps instead of pbt you should exchange it
Ethan Gomez
Neither, get the tada68.
Jackson Watson
yeah they are abs which kind of makes me annoyed they even sent me an email asking if I wanted a different pbt ducky because the one I originally wanted was out of stock.
Ian Morgan
What website would i even buy that off of?
Justin Ross
Aliexpress, kbdist, ebay.
Jordan Robinson
china
Austin Diaz
I have 110 burgers and I'm looking for a keyboard. Should I just peek for now and wait till Prime day, or should I not even bother with that. I've always heard Prime day was kind of lack luster.
John Hall
buckling spring > *
I've got a ducky at work just because it's polite in that it's quiet. Otherwise buckling spring is the best switch ever made.
anybody who prefers MX to buckling spring has dainty chink hands with carpel tunnel. Just look at the build of the buckling spring. that is american fucking manufacturing. heavy on material, resilient to failure, easily replaceable, fabricated to be sturdy as fuck for big meaty american hands
Replacing switches. How difficult is it, and what should I be aware of?
Christopher Hall
wait but not specifically for prime day, do research on chinkboards, keyboard layouts, switches, keycaps and such, or fill out the buyer's template if you want personalized advice
Bentley Baker
>xd60 pdb, plate, and keyswitches finally arrived >keycaps and case soon™
Ryan White
>mention muh Gat in public >immediate nervous and/or frightened looks >had completely forgotten that term already meant something
Jack Thomas
>omron switches are mushy like membrane >uses topre switch
Cooper Williams
What set is this? It's super nice.
David Wilson
granite
Cameron Nguyen
get a sucker to make it super quick to remove solder, and just make sure the solder has stuck to both the pin and socket
Isaiah Ortiz
If I wanna try out topre, what can I do? In east London
Also Matias Quiet or Topre?
Asher Richardson
Buy it on ebay
Topre.
Asher Bell
>CTRL+F "GMK" >0 results
Can anyone comment on the quality of these? I really like the look of the Nautilus set on Massdrop right now.
Ethan Bailey
That's basically the worst possible option because returns are a bitch
Evan Hall
Why would you return a topre?
Luis Barnes
>paying over $100 for ABS keycaps go ahead and waste your money, retard.
Mason Jenkins
That's not a legitimate complaint.
I have a set of doubleshot ABS keycaps in SA profile (pulse) and they are extremely nice.
There are cheap PBT keycaps and cheap ABS keycaps. ABS has slightly cheaper manufacturing costs so when a brand is cutting costs, of course they will use ABS over PBT.
When you're actually getting a quality keycap, it could go either way.
I also have a set of IMSTO gray PBT dyesub keycaps which are considered the best by many. I don't prefer them.
Caleb Wright
get a BTC 5100
Chase King
Because I have no idea if I'll like it? I specifically mentioned "trying out", not making a final purchase.
Luis Edwards
Its okay you already said you're retarded. No need to mention it again.
Leo Russell
at least abs isnt a warped mess on any key over 2u
Christian Perry
Tell that to SP who some how managed to fuck up SA double shot ABS. They're switching to PBT cause its easier for them to mold. But SP is run by people even more retarded then you.
Brody Evans
Fucked up how? I have a set of pulse and they are all perfect.
Nathan Taylor
Well... They seem to have been a limited run. Cuz I can't find an available place to order them from.
Henry Gomez
You weren't around for the shit show that was SA 1976. It was possible to get four sets for like 50 bucks cause they were all warped to shit. It also delayed all their other SA projects for a whole year. All the other sets had problems, but none were as bad as 1976. They then sold their old tooling to maxkey about a year ago. I believe godspeed is the first set to be made with the new tooling, and its also why SA keysets have become so much cheaper, becuase they no longer throw away half the sets the make.
What's the lightest clicky switch I can get ? Going back to my poker with blues after a month using my 35g topre clone feels fucking terrible, but can't quite give up on clicky goodness. Please help.
Blake Harris
...
Lincoln Reed
The cheapest and easiest option would be to get a g80 with blues then do a 35g spring swap. The only tool required is a tweezer, and would cost you around 70-80 bucks
Hunter Kelly
Good shit brother, how do DSA caps feel ? I'm about to buy a set Will look at it, thanks for the recommendation.
Dylan Ward
My favorite profile so far. I'm not really a fan of tall keycaps.
Joshua Cruz
>Budget None >Location (continent at least) US >Preferred switch type Something good for typing as well as the occasional gaymen >Layout Don't know anything about layouts >Form factor 10 key less >Backlight Preferably but not absolutely necessary >Previous/current keyboards Ducky Shine 5 Cherry mx browns
Juan Kelly
>Budget 120$ or less
>Location US
>Switch Type Blue
>Layout ANSI
>Form Factor 65% or smallest I can go while still having arrow keys
>Backlight No
>Current Some dynex keyboard. Want something nicer
Ryder Long
how easy is it to lube up plate mounted switches? my board is starting to get squeaky and i think all the original lube is gone after the years and spilling soda and cleaning it out a few years ago
Grayson Bell
Wow ignore my shitty spacing
Jace Martinez
TADA68, though I would recommend getting it with browns, since gateron blues aren't that good.
Liam Foster
Should probably take a full day since you'll be desoldering the switches, opening them up and lubing every single stem, then resoldering them.
Henry Williams
oh shit really? ive never soldered before, are there any good guides to start?
Justin Long
If you have no experience with soldering whatsoever, I wouldn't recommend messing with your kb if you care about it, since you can damage the pcb really easily if you don't know what you're doing. Watch some videos of people swapping out switches/ building keyboards, there's a bunch of those on yt, should give some general knowledge about it, but practice does make perfect so don't expect it to go smoothly on first tries, practice on something else first. And you will need a desoldering pump, mine was like $2 but you shouldn't get the really cheap ones since it does make the job more difficult.
Bentley White
tada68 and don't listen to the cherry shill, get blue if you want blue, gateron blue isn't bad just not identical to cherry
Leo Ward
so i should practice on another board then? i have a bricked tada68 and a v60 i could fuck around with thanks for the help user
Matthew Fisher
>YMD75 What are the differences between this and the KBD75? It looks very similar, just without the diffusing thing the KBD75 gives you...
Landon Wood
Yeah, practice on whichever you can live without. What keyboard are you gonna lube up ? Make sure you're using the proper lube, most recommended is krytox.
Alexander Stewart
i was going to lube up my kul es-87 enter key and a few others are squeaky and the pause break is sticky again
