Old software you miss from the days of internet past

mIRC before the botnet

Windows 2000

What? How is it a botnet now?

This is actually slower than XP now, I tested it a while back. I figure it was some paging issue.

Google irc botnet. There's so many results so it's true

That just brings up obvious articles about IRC being used for botnet control.

All Windows OSes suffer from Windows rot. A simple reinstall would fix it, though.

Hexchat is way superior anyways.

hamachi before it went to shit

I ran a Hotline server when I was like 11 and I got blazing fast Cable internet.

when internet communities get old enough that people dying is a pretty common thing.

Limewire

I want to go back

DAE old software???
AMIRITE guys??

I'm sorry you're too young to have nostalgia for software you used ~20 years ago. Soak up the experience user, you're not 12 forever.

This

not really software, but I really miss Yahoo! Games, particularly Literati (scrabble clone)

seriously this kid. you're all edgy right now when you try to flaccidly try to troll us oldfags....but trust me, you're going to be "old" fucking quick as shit and you're going to wonder where the fuck those years suddenly went.

CloneCD and CloneDVD. They were such great burning apps.

Opera v12

WinMX was the shit.

XP under the hood had plenty of revisions and optimizations that 2000 didn't. in fact Microsoft didn't change it much after XP became their flagship OS.

encarta

>under the hood

You need to end your existence right now.

meaning if you disregard the outside, like the luna interface or the other gimmicks.
for instance XP boots faster (especially SP3) because some drivers are loaded in parallel, instead of in sequence. also, if you remove the power for a fraction of a second (my old failing drive), 2000 would hang requiring a reset, but if the drive started up again, XP could recover (with an error in the event viewer) - I would know because it was the same drive and I dual-booted. subtle things like that were never implemented in 2000, and are definitely not "obvious" on the outside like luna or product activation.

that should read "if you remove the power from the hard drive for a second"

Last Windows version that took both itself and the user completely seriously.

How about Server 2003? Is that the ultimate NT5.x OS? Or is XP better still (XP SP3 came out in 2008 while 2k3 (R2) SP2 came out in 2007)?

that was an outstanding piece of software. written by white men for pleasure not shekels

Still remember having opera 9+free download manager combo on my usb flashdrive, because internet at home is slow.

Firefox 4

or was 3.6 better? I can't remember now, they've even tarnished the good memories at this point

I think it still early 3 or something. Because i remember it's the first time Firefox with a bigger back button. Firefox is everywhere at that time, before chrome appeared.
I prefer opera portable at that time for it's email client and note in which I jot down whatever i want to download at school.

Firefox v3-5 were OG

You're right. 3.5.5 for life. Golden days.

>chat notice
oh cool, what might it be...
>YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE, CRANK THAT SHIT UP YOU LEECH
>tfw really just 56k and not bullshitting

>another chat notice
oh hell no.. what now..

>oh, you like busty anime catgirls too? ;) also thanks for the Ranma 1/2 Shampoo pic, didn't know that yet

Win 9x/2000. MS Works 4.5a/Lotus Smart Suite 97. You know Works 4.5 was last office suite that was truly all in one. Had wp/db/spreadsheet+templates. Install was like 100-200mb full. Works Suite after it was all busted up into different programs and shit. The best part? Works cost like $40 (at the time), where as office 95/97 would run double or triple that.

>56k
OH YOU WERE ONE OF THOSE?
Lmao, back then I came online to laugh at you!
