/vrg/ - Virtual Reality General

We are starting a hub for anons interested in VR. All text is a WIP.

>What is VR? Why should I care?
Virtual reality seeks to fool your perceptual systems into believing that you're in a different world. It's been a sci-fi meme for decades that once was even attempted and failed, but consumer technology has advanced to the point where it's now possible.

VR is a dead meme

Thankfully. VR is great but it was being way too hyped for what it currently is.

how do i GearVR porn

>nobody likes my forced general!

>Oculus Rift Bundle + Oculus Controller currently for 450€

whats the price in burgerland currently?

449

VR is just starting, it will be a standard feature on phones in the 2020's

Sexlikereal.com

I care more about supporting the small group on Sup Forums interested in VR than I do about being relevant or having a thriving thread. Shitposting has no usefulness to this group, especially since I can bump the thread all I want, so it's discouraged.

that's mostly paid porn user

...

My cock thinks differently.

fucking SHILLS
fuck VR
we had enough with mech keyboard, china shit and mech mouse, gaming printer threads

I have a rift and use it occasionally. I actually really like echo arena. Rec room in steam is also really fun even though it looks like a kids game.

>fuck VR
No, fuck you, retard. Does it hurt you when other have fun with tech that you for some reason can't tolerate? For example I hate animals but I don't say shit like "fuck anime" because I understand it's something other people enjoy.

Huh, couple typos there but I hope you can make it out.

I almost exclusively play "retro" early 2000s games in VR, loads of fucking fun.

VR will die just like 3d movies
like it or not

It just needs some major price reductions.

Doom in VR is fucking fun as hell.
I'll probably get Bethesda Doom to try it out but the classic is so much fun

>VR will die
Says increasingly nervous retard for the 23rd time this year

The only thing VR needs is Apple to release their headset and it will flip

Why none made a RPG like pokemon go? Wouldn't be a great business plan?

Finally, someone else who plays Echo Arena. This is the game we needed at launch.

Calm down guys. These people will eventually come around whether they like it or not, even if that means sometime 10 years down the line.

>tfw Sup Forums's probably never going to die

Notice how every time someone calls VR dead or how it's stupid, it's almost always with little regard to punctuation or grammar. Really makes your grey processors fire.

what are you implying?

bought this for my Oneplus 2

How good they will be for the vr porn?

>If you're genuinely curious about VR,
More like you're naive and inexperienced. It's a meme, and it's going to die and be back in 10 years.

I agree.

It will be kind of cool but pixellated low res and blurry. It's gimmicky. Don't expect too much from it.

Because you need hardware to push software like Pokemon GO. PGO is a game that works well only because it worked on everyone's phone. If Pokemon GO had been released on Hololens, people wouldn't go out and spend so much money just to play it.

echo arena is fun but I keep getting put on the worst goddamn teams

someone posted a video of one of those $300 acer headsets

I just got my Vive yesterday. Trying to find good games, and even more than that, good functionality apps. But fuck I really hate the steam VR marketplace, its just a clusterfuck of 20$ garbage.

use this to see what games people are playing, good way to filter out the bullshit
vrlfg.net/

sweet thanks

Part of me wants to get a vive but I'm scared that vergence-accommodation conflict will fuck with my eyesight.

Did they fix the Pimax 4K software yet / Did someone make a workaround?

Do you have an eye condition? If not then it is literally not a problem.

i've used mine over 150 hours in the past year, no issues. I don't have any eyesight problems though

Not him but just saying, not all of those are really what you want to play. Some of them are probably even counted because arcades are running those games. For example, Job Simulator isn't much of a game even if it's a nice family friendly first demo to show to people. It's basically a polished tech demo. There are a lot of those out there.

...

...

How does the oculus compare to the vive? Are they basicly identical or is the vive worth the extra $300 dollars?

The buying guide might answer your question, but they're basically identical with the Vive being easier to setup and deal with for larger spaces and the Rift having superior controllers (without having to buy another set).

are these US only?

Wow that video really didn't do justice for the product. He ends up sounding like a shill who doesn't know what the Vive or Oculus are. Also it didn't really show us anything we didn't already know.

of course he's a shill, an actual review would campare it to existing HMDs.

He's doing a pretty bad job of it then.

Why are the pastebins so biased for the Rift? There are some facts mixed with subjective opinions.

VR is a meme, and it's clear the very moment you "experience" it. Try again when you figure out how to move around properly.

OP here. I have a Rift and Vive and I basically wrote 90% of everything there. It's a WIP so if you see anything wrong with the texts let me know about it. The opinionated parts of the pastes are a combination of my own experience as well as the opinions of other enthusiasts which I've heard around places.

He is truly pathetic.

Looking for a commercial VR gear that's not for gaymen and isn't dogshit chink tier like samsung or cardboard. I just want a comfy headsed that I can watch whatever on for a long period of time that isn't bloated it price because it comes with 2 gyroscopic dildos to juggle with.

No headset is comfy atm. It's all heavy and uncomfortable.

I got a DK1. wat do?

Seems like nothing is compatible with it.

Not sure why you consider Samsung Gear VR "dogshit chink tier" or uncomfortable; maybe you aren't wearing it right?

I got a Gear VR to go with my S8 about a month ago and I love it. It's lighter than any desktop PC headset, and more comfortable than Cardboard (although Cardboard is a really low bar, because it's literally made out of cardboard).

I can wear my Gear VR for 2+ hours without getting uncomfortable at all. The completely wireless VR experience is awesome IMO.

Biggest drawbacks are
>locked into Oculus store (although there are ways around this)
>only one hand controller
>have to own a Samsung phone for the Gear VR to even be an option

The last one isn't necessarily a drawback if you like Samsung phones (which I do), so it wasn't a drawback for me.

You might be able to play some steamvr stuff through OSVR.

The Windows mixed reality headsets might just be comfortable enough though. Maybe.

The dev kits? I would assume not.

>old games in VR

While not as old, I'm pretty excited to play HL2 and A:I again in VR. Thank god for modders.

i disagree.

Vive owner here.
Never intended to buy it, didn't seem worth it. But my wealthy parents got me a set for my birthday, and I really enjoy it.

Most recently I got Climbey, which is a ton of fun. Also can get me sweating after a while.
My fav game is holopoint. Looking at getting holodance soon.

Anyone else /comfy/ VR consumer?

Can someone please make a daydream VR Sup Forums browser/posting app? Thx

VR will be the future it does 3D and then some. It's in it's infancy right now. Give it 4 years and it will be 300$ or even 250$ with tons of advancements. A ton of people said the same about Smartphones how it was not needed and how it will die because everyone already had those things. VR does not have the same problems 3D had.

Try

New Arcade Retro Neon. I found it fun as a good demo.

>Has never tried VR
>Proceeds to shitpost
>painfully obvious that has never tried VR
Please refrain from shitposting about VR, You've never used it and it shows. Just because you're poor doesn't mean we all are.

What's the process for getting games to run in SBS 3D in Virtual Desktop? 3D Vision doesn't support SBS but Helix Mod/3Dmigoto will allow it to? Is this correct?

Oh shit, they're selling the Rift and Touch together for $399 now.

My friend let me try his oculus (he's developing a small game for it) and i noticed this grid-like pattern on the visor.

Well it's quite immersive, but also uncomfortable.
After 30 minutes my glasses were literally covered in sweat and i had quite an headache.

I guess i have to get used to it.
Anyway, is there something like blender or paint for VR?

Not blender, not that complex yet, but MS Paint level equivalents exist. Google Tiltbrush, Google Blocks, Oculus Medium, Oculus Quill, they all do things differently but are generally like modeling or painting in 3D.

If I know I'll not have space for a vive should I get the oculus now it's cheapo?

Yeah the Vive is great for all spaces but if you don't need large room-scale then the Rift is fine. At this price I don't know if I'd recommend the Vive to any regular person to be honest.

>is impressed by toy tech
>can't comprehend others not being impressed by toy tech
>they must've never tried it, even though they clearly have
>Being so poor that he thinks being able to afford VR means you're not poor
Please refrain from posting. You're underage and it shows. Just because you're a child doesn't mean we should have to put up with your shit.

Literally no games.

Nice meme.

For real though, it's not true anymore. The games are still limited but it's enough to justify the price of VR now. Stuff like Echo Arena, Robo Recall, The Mage's Tale, Onward, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, they're worth it. I'd even play those games rather than most of the games on normal PC/console right now.

Those would all be $10 indie titles no one would have even heard of if they didn't have a VR gimmick. There are NO big budget titles at all.
Trying to convincing someone to buy hardware to play something called Echo Arena or Mage's Tale is fucking laughable.

>Echo Arena, Robo Recall, The Mage's Tale, Onward, Star Trek: Bridge Crew
>enough to justify the price of VR
kek

Can't wait until this general falls out of page 10, VR is such a gimmick.

>I have no argument except that my opinion is the correct one and it's superior lol

The only laughable thing is how badly VR is marketed. DESU the real problem of VR now isn't the quality or the price or the content anymore, it's getting people to understand how much better the perceptual qualities of VR are than monitors.

But saying this to you will absolutely be a waste since you've already decided to let VR be a meme in your head.

Have fun waiting. I'm going the bump the shit out of this.

>I think Echo Arena, Robo Recall, The Mage's Tale, Onward, Star Trek: Bridge Crew are worth over 800 bucks.
Your opinion can't even be considered a rational one, therefor I need no arguments.

Desperate, sad! That was my intention in the first place...

>800

It's $400 now.

>But saying this to you will absolutely be a waste since you've already decided to let VR be a meme in your head.
I've tried VR faggot. It's cool the first time, but once you've been playing around for an hour or so, you get bored of it. My friends Rift has been gathering dust for months. It will never replace 2D screens, and it's obvious after using VR for more than 5 minutes.

For a shit tier Rift perhaps. If you're gonna buy into the meme, might as well get a proper set like the Vive.

Nah, you tried a shitty demo. And your friend is actually retarded to have bought so early. That was a shitty time for software.

That's a meme too. Most real owners of both headsets as well as enthusiasts see them a lot more similar than they are different. The perception of the Vive being better in all ways than the Rift is a misconception.

I tried half the games you consider 'worth it' dumbass. Protip: they're not worth it.

t. rift owner

>Shitposting is not what we're here for.
are you sure you want to be here and not on reddit? You seem to be lost, your safe space is over there.

I didn't even list them all and also you're opinion is pretty much contrary to the majority of people who are actually getting the systems.

I own a Vive and a Rift.

>your opinion is pretty much contrary to the majority of children who are actually getting the systems gifted from their parents
FTFY

It's a fun little toy, I'm not denying that. It's just not very impressive, the most fun I had in VR was playing superhot, and that game is not very good at all. Most other games are glorified minigames. Besides the games being shit, the whole thing is just inconvenient. You have to wear this huge thing on your head, you can't easily take a sip/bite/smoke while playing. It becomes a drag very quickly. Again, it will never replace 2D screens, and you're literally insane if you think otherwise.

The reviews for the products on all the vendor websites would disagree with you.
