If you don't miss the days of add in cards, you have no heart, but if you want them back, you have no brain

If you don't miss the days of add in cards, you have no heart, but if you want them back, you have no brain.

I don't miss them because they're still here..?

I mean like where everything was it's own card. Serial, sound, Ethernet, usb, everything.
I also miss the excitement of port changes like when you would get a VLB card and start testing the differences or moving from PCI to AGP or upgrading your sound card and suddenly hearing a world of difference.

I miss the Golden age of computing.

I miss Expresscard in laptops, now we just have to put up with dongleitus.

I was planning on getting one of these.

Previous card I got was a WiFi adapter.

This is add in card thread now. What expansions are you guys getting?

I don't miss the days because they're still here.

A network card.

>add in cards

Refusing to call them motherboards and daughterboards is a sign of cancer

So what you're saying is that you are a retarded nostalgiafaggot circlejerklet and you can't make decisions because you're stuck in the past

>Asus

Better hope that isn't a cheap ralink chip in there.

Seems to be an Aquantia AQC-107 on it.

it's mainboards you bigot shitlord

But what's wrong with socialism?

>cockshott

literally everything.

>not intel nics
Literally kys

but I just want a mode of production that's compatible with cybernetic economics and free software :(

Do you want a free helicopter ride? Because that's how you get one.

no, I want cybernetic economics and free software

free market is the only way

socialism + cybernetics is the way of the future. read basic cybernetic economics.

Better dead then red

And you go back to /leftypol/ and /gnussr/. While I consider myself a leftist, I don't want to shitpost politics on the tech board.

Better read than empty of head
just read the book its ok

>I miss the days when you had to spend hours on menial tasks and consumer computer audio was utterly shit

I remember the first laptop that my parents bought for me had the most god awful onboard sound imaginable. I'm not an audiophile, but this shit was so bad I ended up getting one of these things.

I used it for probably 5-6 years, and by then onboard sound across the entire industry had gotten good enough that I didn't need it. Honestly I kind of miss the little thing. It had the most satisfying twisty knob with just the right amount of smoothness and clickiness.

When they bother releasing cards without exorbitant pricing.

Buy the used enterprise ones, you can find quad port gbit for less than 30 bucks, single port 10 gbit for like 50 bucks. Very reliable, great drivers, also they don't use the CPU to do everything, they have dedicated hardware for tcp and whatever you need.

Man I'd like a 10Gbit interface, but I'd need a 10Gbit network first.

You can use it to connect your fileserver though for those 1.5 gigabytes per second throughput.

Motherboards will come with 10Gbit soon enough. Those cards can be seen as future proofing your current PC as there likely isn't much freeroom to get even higher transferspeeds with cat7-like cables and RJ45's. I don't see anything new coming in the future beyond 10Gbit in Homenetworks.

It was a love/hate relationship as a teenager, but as an adult used to convenience that had to use Lucasarts boot disks, I would never go back

i meant twisted pair

Can confirm the HP NC364T was a great deal for 35€. Great investment for fucking around with Networks

But my router only has 1Gbit interfaces. I wouldn't get any benefit from having just one path be 10Gbit because the router can only do 1Gbit.

Much of the fun stuff moved to USB.

Then get a pfsense router and use 10gbit nics on it. Or just connect directly to the server.

I miss the days of motherboards not being filled with visual cancer

got an hdmi capture card a few weeks back, been fucking around with console faggotry through it (and it has linux drivers and sdk, so it fits into my threadripper build plans)

...

or not old as fuck, either way

>MUH HELEKOPTER

You're a cruisin for a brusin by the legendary Soviet Mi 8

>ralink
curse the name

usb3.0 card, pce m.2 adapter and my balls bouncing off your moms chin
