Is it okay to work off a flash drive? its a 64gb USB3.0 so I find it easy to just plug in and go on whatever computer I am on but im worried the use will kill it.

I dont really see a problem with that
cheap material

Hello is this the thread for stupid questions?

u peenis weenis

Can any one help me set the background image in HerbstluftWM? I have tried solutions found by web searches but none have worked

So if I see something like [DVDRip] [HD 720p] it's 100% an upscale, right?

idk, I've never had issues with it

I've never had any issue with upscaling 720p source to 1080p to watch on my screen either.

Not an answer to my question.

Is the name Plan 9 a play on the acronym POSIX?
P = Plan
OS = Operating System
IX = 9

Buying a new PC soon, what PSU should I get?
Specs:
AMD 1600X
AMD RX 580
B350 mAtx MoBo
Samsung 512GB SSD
WD 1TB HDD
Possibly an AIO CPU cooler

Whats a good windows software to stream my desktop (and my PC games and movies) to my LG Smart TV

Been having a lot of trouble with old school runescape.
RS3 is fine, so the issue has me fucked.
Getting a "Login limit exceeded"/"too many logins from this address" error.
I've flushed my DNS and reset TPC/IP.
Jagex is no help on the issue, despite this affecting many users.
My next step is running it in a VM, but I'd rather not for ease of use.
Being in Aus makes me think they've cocked something up with ports with the NBN upgrades happening. Or it's just coincidence that there's another 50odd people playing in my small shithole of a town.
I have trouble reaching some sites regularly, but others are fine in the same time.
Even loading google can take forever.
I'm on a non static IP. Would swapping to a static be a potential fix? Or have I overlooked something.

I think that trouble reaching sites may be a different issue entirely.

FUCK

literally all I want
all I want

is some kind of utility that lets me manually scrobble a song from the command line.

if you know of such a programme please redbull me

literally everything I've downloaded (some python shit, some ruby shit, some bash shit--lots of shit) uses the deprecated API or refuses to work (always the same error no. 13: suggesting something changed on last.fm's end)

I've even tried writing my own script using the API but I also get the same error no. 13 about invalid submission hashes.

there's this site that works fine, so there's definitely a way to do it:
universalscrobbler.com/bulk.php?_ts=0.58066700 1500536036

but I don't know how to delve through all that nu-male javascript shit to find the code I'm looking for

Depends on the read and write speed of the flash drive. External SSDs are better desu.

go to /pcbg/ ask the runescape staff to help you out, in the meantime try to put a static IP

No, it it's referring to plan nine from outer space which is an old b movie. Basically a meme.

Yes. Typical USB keys have a finite number or writes before they go bad. SanDisk have a ssd in thumb format, suited for OS typical memory access

You have a couple of options.
1. echo songname >> songs
2. vi songs (then type in the song you listened to)
Doing this you now have a list of the songs you have listened to.

Not quite what you want but I just write stuff to mpdscribble's journal file, restart it and let us handle scrobbling.

Will give the static IP a go.
There's 10+ threads on this issue in the RS forums. Jagex is renown for doing jack, or when they do something 100,000 players quit.
Thought I'd ask here as you guys are kind of the demographic to play it.

Anyone? It's a simple question I know every single one of you could answer.

Hi every one hello and thank?

>smart TV
Enjoy your spyware retard

could i install ubuntu on windows 10 machine from store to test how i could emulate windows on ubuntu and linux in general? So scheme goes windows -> ubuntu -> windows. Want to move on to linux, but am afraid, that i wouldn't be able to use some university programs which are windows only.

could anyone recommend 13,3-14 something inch laptop?
my preferences are :
> build quality (don't want cheap plastic)
> battery life
> screen
budget doesn't matter but i would prefer something over Macbook.

What's the best firewall for Windoze? I wanna block some .exes from a cracked program from accessing the net, but the default one doesn't seem to be doing shit.

Installing it on a usb stick and booting into that would be a better test. Emulation can introduce new issues when it is only one layer deep.

Why is it that we dont sandbox every single program?

keep in mind WSL (ubuntu on windows) does NOT use linux, it uses it's own linux-like implementation that shares no code with linux
it only supports usermode applications (no drivers, such as virtualbox host drivers), and not everything is implemented (i doubt it supports linux's KVM for accellerated QEMU usage, either)

you might be able to run windows under QEMU under ubuntu for windows, unaccellerated, but it will be slow as balls

Gnu plot or Matlab? Not doing any thing advanced, such want to visualise stuff

We do. That shit's incorporated into modern OSes, browsers etc.

Block their IPs in host.

Is it worth upgrading to Windows 8.1 now?

Cancer

My school has a Mac and I'm allowed to only use the first account. How do I install stiff in it

I meant the guest account

Ask an adult to help you

he just did

...

>Cancer
>for asking a simple stupid question in /sqt/
OK

no

I want to switch from self destructing cookies to cookie autodelete because of e10s. Anyway to export my whitelist from self destructing cookies to cookie autodelete? It's a fairly long list, and I can only find a window that allows me to copy them one by one.

I'm 18. Just really bad with computers

It says you need an admin account to install gtypist

Where do I get that blanket the comfy guy wears? Failing that, what's a comfy blanket in general?

unless they meant hd-dvd, then it's probably an upscale
i've never seen conflicting labels like that before, though

I'm about to buy windows 10 64bit for my vidya, but I heard that microsoft was disabling pirated shit through windows 10? Should I be fine if the illegal/pirated stuff is on a second hdd or external and not the same hdd as the OS?

It's a shitty animu tracker.

Windows gives zero shits which drive it's on. Last I heard though those were still just rumors.

any wool blanket
sounds like bullshit to me, friends of mine pirate stuff all the time and they use windows 10 too

Microsoft won't care but you'll get malware out the butt.

Why does the wiki say its bad to use backspace in vim?

Holy shit. I have been putting this off for so long because of a fucking old wives tale. I even made a new partition because of it.

Let's say you have a fiber connection.

How fast would you be able to download with a 7200RPM HDD using USB 3.0?

I have about 300 sitting around from various humble bundles. Want a few?

No faster than you could with a 5400RPM HDD using USB 2.0

v hosts a weekly Humble Bundle thread every Tuesday - might take your chances there

What? gigabit is ~128MB/s
Speed limit of 3.0 is higher so here the drive speed really matters. 5400RPM will be slower.
Run a write/read speed test. I'd guess ~45MB/s.

That's assuming the fiber is gigabit. Most connections are less than 1/20 of that

I see.
So there's no point in having a fiber connection if my drives can't even take advantage of it. I wonder if using RAID would help, since the load would be spread over a dozen HDDs

Nah it's definitely gigabit. I've done speed tests and they've always come back at around 970~985

>I wonder if using RAID would help, since the load would be spread over a dozen HDDs
Yes, correct RAID would help

You're getting gigabit exclusively for 1 device? You're not even gonna let your granny stream netflix or something?

I've been meaning to set it up, but I need to do more research. I'm thinking a 24U rack with a bunch of 7200 RPM 500GB HDDs in it would be nice.

I live alone and my family are fine with their own ISP.

How do I install home brew in Mac from a guest account

Well knock yourself out, but unless you do some serious hosting type shit there's not going to be much practical benefit over 100mbps. I mean yes, you can seed like a motherfucker if your ISP doesn't care, but that's the kind of thing they usually do care about. I just wouldn't spend a shitton extra for gigabit.

>I just wouldn't spend a shitton extra for gigabit.
I'm only paying $70 for it.

>unless you do some serious hosting type shit there's not going to be much practical benefit over 100mbps.
Well, I do a ton of downloading because I'm a hoarder. The first day I got fiber I downloaded about 300GB. Considering I have 30TB, I definitely have a use for it outside of hosting.

i have tmobile and they offer free music streaming from many major services

i use a modded spotify apk and was wondering if anyone knows how tmobile would monitor the data and if the modded apk would qualify for the 'free streaming'

Don't take this the wrong way, but I fucking hate you. I live in a small town and, I shit you not, the best available here is 1.5 megaBITS per second. On a good day. We haven't had a good day in a while. I do not live alone.

Ausbro? I know you're pain; I'm sitting at 900bits/s on a good day; I hit 1.1 the other day and felt like a god!

I need a program (windose) to convert videos to flv format. I tried handbrake but I don't think it can do that.

Forget flying cars, I just want a future where house lines can all keep up with 3G phones

FFmpeg can do it.
99% 'video conversion' programs are just using ffmpeg backend with prebuilt parameters anyway.

Preach it. I just want internet where I can watch twitch in 720p, or watch a youtube video without letting it load while I make dinner

Get a good plan for mobile data then if you have reception there.
Some are even unlimited.

There's really no excuse for such a thing in this day and age. I haven't had to experience that since 2004.

You should make it your goal to move the hell out.

Would be nice, but ever since that verizon MVNO canned the unlimited for $99 there hasn't been a plan with enough data to make a practical dent. High speeds for the first hour and a half doesn't help much.

>2004
>still had dial-up

Oh the memories...

Just graduated and have been looking for something super entry level IT related the past 6 months and am getting btfo in interviews by kids who all have done a bunch of internships. Should I lie on my resume? I have a buddy at a company who is willing to say I was his assistant for a sales internship. It might not be super helpful but I just got word I didn't get a job at another company because one of the other candidates had done a marketing co-op so they went with him over me.

What is the best music streaming service?

What I'm looking for in a music streaming service is quantity of selection of outside of U.S. discography, sound quality, ability to upload or add or match your own music to the program's or service's (hate how this feature is implemented in Spotify), and ease-of-use/customer support/customer care. I have tried iTunes/Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Amazon Prime Music. Never paid for Pandora or iHeart Radio as I like to be able to choose the exact song I want to listen to. Going to see if there is a free trial for Tidal and test that, I guess it's apeal is it's quality of sound.

Not happening. I'll probably die here. Which in every other way is cool with me.

I remember waiting for limewire to load 2 minute porn clips. Took like an hour each.

set frmt=*.*
for %%a in (%frmt%) do ffmpeg -y -i "%%a" -movflags faststart -c:v libx264 -crf 23 -ar 44100 -ac 2 "%%~na.flv"
pause

Converts every file in the directory to .flv using 44kHZ, 2 channel audio and default encoding for video bitrate.

How do they digitize old VHS anime to 1440x1080?

Where would I put the directory in there?

Ok lads, I'm about to buy W10 for my gaming pc, what do I get

Windows 10 Pro
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 S

Tidal is dead/dying. Apple's gonna make their offering a success if it kills them. You're going to be disappointed with selection after spotify. They're the ones with enough momentum to force the contracts. Unfortunately that doesn't leave you with a lot of good options.

tl;dr: yes

After I graduated, it took me fucking almost 2 years for me to finally land a steady job in IT. I lied on my resume too, I added some more schools on it plus over-exaggerated shitty job on it. Be creative but also make it believable. I'm lucky that in my country they wont do background checks on if what you wrote down is actually true or not, also sign up for job recruiters, they help you out a lot.

Enterprise

Where tf is Enterprise

they (re)scan the original film masters

P71 gud for mild gaymen, animation and art shite?

Enterprise is a business version of Windows, its good for win10 because it comes without all the telemetry bullshit that you gotta debloat upon installing

So I'm guessing it costs a fortune?

>buying windows

Other than Enterprise which one should I get?

Can anything be done about this horrible compression? There's "fog" layered on top of many scenes of this show, and the artifacting is s noticeably atrocious, even in motion. Using MPC-HC
