you can go with the edgy weird one, like McAffee or any of half a dozen written by expatriate russians, but it's a balancing act between them owning your machine or not doing enough to protect it. at some point they're going to decide there's more money in running a botnet, and then your machine is just another one in the Borg Collective.
i think the best ones to go with are the ones who'll sell you a basic package but who keep nagging you to upgrade it. they're at least still trying to sell you the blowjob. free ones aren't worth the trouble it takes to reinstall your OS after you get raped anyway.
