Why are you reading comments?

because this way you have to scroll related videos which are paid/ sponsored

Also a greater chance you'll find something to watch next

They make me lol (laugh out loud) when I read them.

>not using the new layout where the video uses all available space

this. the comments aren't worth anything to youtube except as a way to trick idiots into thinking that they're meaningfully involved somehow.

also, the comments section of youtube videos are absolute garbage, just like every other site with real content and then a comments section tacked on.

You need to use custom CSS to really get the best experience for videos and comments that fit your screen, as well as a time of day influenced dark theme with blue light reduction.

The real question is why in 2017 we still have formatting issues due to mobile centric designers.

like Sup Forums?>

Why only scrolling comments on side?

Why not both scrolling comments on side + scrolling videos too?

what about Sup Forums sounds relevant here? this is a purely comment-driven site. there is no content except for the user comments. so that's why people come here.

if you don't like a public forum like Sup Forums or reddit or whatever, you leave. there's no other content that you're making a decision about. if you don't like the comments on youtube or some other site, you still stay because the comments aren't why you're there in the first place. you're there for the video or other content.

i shouldn't have to explain this to you. when you post, stop and think for like 10 seconds. keep increasing that number every time someone admonishes you for not thinking enough before you post.

>what the fuck is whitespace help how do websites work

Material Design is cancer.

>why in 2017 we still have formatting issues due to mobile centric designers.
Because webdevs are fucking idiots

but new is pretty much just removal of #f1f1f1 and round avatars for a more pleasant mobile experience on desktop. thanks webdevs. u da best.

why are you watching pocoyo?

They (YouTube [a subsidiary of Google {The Alphabet Company [NASDAQ: GOOGL]}]) recommended them to me after watching RV (recreational vehicle) videos.

sure thing lol also did you figure out how to draw a circle in gimp?

because it wouldn't work on a 4:3 screen.

yes

I deleted all my cookies the other day and when I logged back into YT, I was presented with this new interface.

ALL THE COMMENTS WERE GONE! Nothing but the video was showing.

I guess new interface won't even have comments. They want to turn YT into a passive watching place since comments almost always go against their propaganda.

Go see for yourself.

youtube.com/testtube

you can try it and then disable it if you don't like the new look. This new look will become default in few weeks.

gaming.youtube.com

has comments on the side and videos on the bottom

you were literally just shown the best new feature and you're complaining about the crap that doesn't matter?

>non-fullscreen full width video
they finally did it

AFTER TEN YEARS

Any site without a comment section is propaganda trying not to be refuted by discussion or proof being giving from a source in the comments section.

Basically no comments on any site = fake news.

...

Because YouTube comments are shit, and you should feel bad for wanting to read them

it depends on the video

why literally every company besides Sup Forums is trying to make desktop websites look like the mobile one?

he's right and you know it

Because you're not supposed to read the comments you retard

How do you expand so that the comments stretch aaalll the way to the right?

rofl

They do, for live streams.

Because most people don't want to read the comments, and therefore it would be a giant eyesore, taking up half the screen for no fucking reason. Moreover, some people put spoilers in the comments which people might not want to see. This way, if you do not want the ending to a video spoiled, you can simply not scroll down to see the comments.

You think people at youtube have any idea what theyre doing?

Yes, the new design change is actually an improvement over the old one for once.

The goal is to get you to keep clicking on more videos, not staying on one video to read the comments. Basic web design.

thats retarded, who watches videos recommended to them instead of watching what they want?

This happened to me, turns out it was an old extension that was causing it.

The whole point is that the recommended videos are supposed to be things you want to watch - and if you're fully immersed in the botnet (which most normalfags are) they generally are.

This.

>tfw no more video responses
>tfw the comments got fucked up with the google+ update
>tfw the replies are completely fucking broken
They could fix this but they won't

PornHub is probably making more profits than google with youtube

lmao that feature has been in youtube center for years, and it previews the entire vid

watching videos cost youtube monies but reading comments doesnt?

I purposefully spent an hour training the algorithim. It's one of the only botnets i've truly embraced.

XD

I always just click on one video and then surf through the related/recommended videos until I end up too far removed from the original topic.

If you're just sitting on one page you're not seeing any more ads. Every time you click on another video you're seeing new page ads, and if the video is monetised, nice long video ads. Most normalfags are either not running an adblocker or fell for the "abloobloo stop adblocking on youtube :(" whining by """"content creators""""

why don't they put ads over the comments then

this, the jewgle botnet makes everything a lot easier
>searching for obscure thing that could easily refer to 1000 more popular things
>the botnet knows me and ignores all those results and directs me straight to the thing i wanted
>make the same search outside of the botnet
>impossible to find it

>>tfw no more video responses
How is this a bad thing? Video responses were just an endless stream of stupid camwhores who thought anyone cared about their opinions.

>2017
>YouTube comments are still cancer
it's quite amazing

Google makes zero profit from youtube. It actually loses them money. If they were only allowing monetized videos, they would maybe make a profit. But because they allow everyone to upload, they spend more to store millions of unmontetized videos than they could ever dream to make from ads.

LMAO

Pic related feature in YouTube Plus extension works pretty well for reading comments while watching the video

what addon do you use for that sidebar?

why doesn't youtube let you keep the video playing as you browse the website
why doesn't youtube let you pop the video out to your desktop and stay on top
why doesn't youtube improve the watch later functionality
why is the loading performance so shit with the new layout
why does youtube not listen when you set videos and channels to be ignored
why is the like/dislike bar still around
why are desktop notifications so shit
why are they using a burger menu in their new desktop design while mobile design is totally different
why is the mobile design so shit on tablets
why can't you change the quality while on mobile networks
why am I wasting my time writing all of this

Yup they do it to corner the market to gain a monopoly over the distribution of video media and thus (he who controls communications controls the world).

It is an absolute DISGRACE that governments allow (let alone cooperate) with evil scum corporations like google. We truly live in a dystopia.

good rice

HAHAHAHAHA

i DONT GET IT? IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM THEATER?

>why doesn't youtube let you keep the video playing as you browse the website
Tabbed browsers have existed for more than a decade

Then I can't see it, but then you'll reply "oh just use a different window" this fucking wastes space and becomes a pain to manage. It's more effort than what could be resolved by better design.

Why can't YouTube put the comments on the video so you can read them while watching the video?

How tf can you even focus on two things at once

Also would vivaldi be your cup of tea? you can tile webpages

Kawaii desu senpai!!!

Haha lol

i'd rather read youtube comments than Reddit desu
