Microsoft is deprecating Paint in its latest Fall Creators Update. It says that means it's not in active development and might be removed in a future release. I have uses for Paint, it's lightweight and good for quickly cropping pictures. Is there any way to back up MSPaint in case they really do remove it in the future? Grabbing the .exe alone and running it gives you an error message that says "Unable to create new document."

The guys who make WinAeroTweaker are probably gonna push out an update that lets you keep it for the time being. Normies are eventually gonna notice that Paint is gone, and someone will come out with a replacement.
Of course, once's that's depreciated, who knows if that'll be replaced?

The default Windows 10 photo viewer can easily crop as well. That's not a valid reason neither is lightweight when you're already using Windows.

If you're going to go that way you can run it on Windows just as well.
Also, the newer versions use UIRibbon, which doesn't actually work in Wine.

Because it ties in with AR/VR. Being able to draw something up in Paint 3D and then view it in 3D using either Hololens or the VR equivalents is seen as a good move for them.

And considering no other OS is pushing 3D creation nearly as much as MS, it's a dev market they're trying to corner.

The official PORTABLE versions of Paint.NET requires me to install a botnet. The PAF version was 404'd because the shitty devs didn't authorize.

They're removing paint and outlook express because they want to kill traditional win32 with the store apps. Soon, all software in default install will be from the store only and later store only will be the only option.

I don't think Outlook Express has come bundled with Windows since XP. Also Win32 is cancer and needs to be replaced.

UWP applications do not need to be installed via the Store and they never have.

If you want to make an .AppX package and release it via your website, you can do so, and anyone can install it.

They already added the ability to block apps not from the store and windows 10 S is store only. Microsoft wants everyone used to the idea of store only before making it a reality.

It's a specialised version of Windows designed for certain environments, and they still caught a ton of flak for it. Consumers are stupid but they won't accept not being able to run 3rd party programs. It would be market suicide to try and push something like that on every Windows user.

When the ribbon-ified mspaint came out everyone shat on it and said it ruined mspaint etc, now there's another new version and suddenly the "ruined" mspaint is the best thing ever and represents literal perfection. I tried to replicate this and I can't believe the amount of effort you put into this.
It actually hides the online features if you start it without an internet connection.
So you need to start it and click on the remix thing to reach the sign in button.
Then disable your internet connection.
Then click on sign in to make that window pop up.

I still use MSPaintXP because Windows 10 paint is retarded, rather use GIMP or Photoshop for that.

Didn't Microsoft already do that with Paint 3D. Aside from the fancy 3D stuff, it's still a decent 2D drawing tool. Better than Paint, at least.
